Indian Seats Georgia Hiking Trails: Sawnee Mountain Preserve (Cumming GA)
Sawnee Mountain is named for Chief Sawnee (also spelled Sauney), a Cherokee Indian who lived southwest of present-day Cumming. While tales abound of Sawnee being too old to be removed on the Trail of Tears, he received $618.50 in Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1839 in payment for
removal damages, probably his property (Sawnee Mountain and a 16-acre parcel of land southwest of present-day Cumming, Georgia). A second man, Sawnee Vann from the Rome area is also on this list, but he is not related to Chief Sawnee.

Sawnee Mountain Hike - Indian Seats Trail and Overlook
Nestled between the Appalachian Trail and Atlanta, Sawnee Mountain Preserve is a perfect hike for beginners, people with large groups looking for a pretty view, or families with children or older people. The Indian Seats Trail offers amazing views from the overlook point and observation deck.
For more detail including trail length and location, check out the Day Hiked blog post about this hike:
The hike is fairly easy and short, we reached the top and back in about 45 minutes, and even in the summer Georgia heat, we weren’t very sweaty. Indian Seats trail is all dirt, with a lot of roots, but it also has plenty of shade.

Took a hike up to the Indian Seats at Sawnee Mountain, thought this would be a good opportunity to practice using my GoPro and also get some much needed practice in editing video footage. I will get the hang of it. Hope you enjoy.

Cotton Hill CG, Fort Gaines, GA
We stayed at Cotton Hill CG overnight on our way to the Florida Panhandle. Cotton Hill Campground is situated on the shores of Walter F. George Lake on the Georgia and Alabama border. The lake is a great place to get away for a week, a weekend or just an afternoon.
Walter F. George Lake, sometimes called Lake Eufaula, stretches 85 miles up the Chattahoochee River. Visitors come to relax and play among the natural beauty of the area.

Cumming Georgia a Neighborhood Video - Life and History of Cumming
The City of Cumming the gateway to leisure living.
The Cumming Public School was first erected in 1923 at 101 School Street to serve grades 1-11 offering for the first time a High School Diploma in Cumming, Forsyth County, Georgia. Shortly thereafter it burned and was rebuilt within its same brick walls and reopened in 1927. Over the years the school transformed itself as needs arose and served as a primary grade school, middle grade school and in its final operative years as the headquarters of the Forsyth County Board of Education. The City of Cumming acquired the school in 1999 from the Forsyth County BOE and through the efforts of the Historical Society of Forsyth County, Annette Bramblett
Bramblett in particular, the old school was named to The National Register of Historic Places in 2000. The Historic Marker was dedicated in April 2006.
Funding for restoration was provided by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax monies earmarked for Historic Preservation. During this process beautiful tongue and groove pine flooring and vaulted ceiling with exposed beams were uncovered in the school auditorium. This area was restored to its original architectural beauty and converted to the 184 seat Cumming Playhouse with state-of-the-art lighting and sound. Opening in July 2004, playhouse patrons have enjoyed many main stage plays as well as various concerts representing an array of music styles, blues & jazz, classical, bluegrass and country.
The school also provides an historic tour of Old Cumming via photographs, annuals, historic artifacts and authentically restored classrooms. It is home to the Bell Research Center for Southern Genealogical Research, The Cumming Playhouse and our Historical Society of Forsyth County.
As a final touch added to the experience of the Historic School is Tam’s Backstage Restaurant. Surrounded by an exciting atmosphere of a Broadway Pub, you will be offered the finest of entrees and beverages to make for a most memorable visit. Open air dining in the Historic Garden, an area filled with the old flower and shrubs from days gone by, adjacent to the main serving area and two additional catering rooms on the main level of the Historic School are also available.
Sure to become Cumming’s most exciting place to be, we invite you to come soon and see the many treasures to be discovered at 101 School Street.
Waterfall Hunters Eps. 1 Vickery Creek Trail
Nestled in the heart of Roswell, Ga is an unexpected surprise. Don White Park is home to the Old Roswell Mill. Featuring old structures and a covered bridge, this park also has a decent series of trails to explore in addition to a 40 foot waterfall! If you feel daring, push through the cascade towards the right side of the dam and you'll find a little cave behind the falls. More like a hidey hole for big enough for 2 people. Badass nonetheless. More info on this trail here from All Trails. Go outside!
