A Scenic Float | Under The Sawtooth Mountains (Stanley, ID)
Stanley Idaho is one of the most scenic places on earth. The Sawtooth Mountains provide an amazing backdrop to a plethora of outdoor activities. With the Salmon River running through this beautiful mountain town there are a number of white water river opportunities to be enjoyed. We teamed up with our friends at the River Company for a nice relaxing scenic float on the headwater of the mighty Salmon. If you come to Stanley from Boise, through Banks or Idaho City, the River Company is the first building on the left of the highway as you enter town. You can book day trips there or rent inflatable kayaks or stand up paddle boards. The scenic stretch of the Salmon is very easy and you can do it on your own, but if you have no river experience a guide or outfitter is the safest way to go. The scenic float makes for a great family half day trip either before or after lunch. The boat box on the river is located about 2-3 miles past upper Stanley heading north on highway 75. It will be on your right hand side. It fits at most 4 people so plan accordingly to miss the crowds.

Thomas Jay Oord 1,000+mile Idaho Photography Walkabout Hike.mov
In the spring and summer of 2012, Thomas Jay Oord walked more than 1,000 miles in Idaho. He trekked amazing and remote parts of the state and walked the Idaho Centennial Trail from the Nevada border to the Canadian border. As he walked, Oord took photos of the beautiful places in the state. He filmed segments of his journey with a variety of cameras, and he experimented with time-lapse photography. This video was produced by Roman Lyon using Dr. Oord's material. See his photos on his facebook page or at a slideshow presentation.

Sorry about the underwear shot, but it beats the alternative (that no one wants to see) :-). Also, it was necessary. My undies were getting pretty crusty from all the dried out sweat.
