A Brief Shot of the 1950s-1960s Tri-ang Layout
A brief shot of the classic 1950s to 1960s Tri-ang layout showing the large selection of buildings which used to be supplied in their early days of success.
Tri-ang (Lines Bros.) hoisted themselves to fame by pioneering the techniques of plastic injection-moulding along with Rosebud Kitmaster.
Hornby (Meccano) was a late-comer to the field and were still strongly-wedded to tinplate until at least the early 1960s. Adapting to cheaper (and more detailed) plastic mouldings came too late to save the company from their eventual buy-out by Tri-ang (forming Tri-ang/Hornby) . This company later adopting the name of their former competitor.
There was a surprisingly wide range of buildings, something which vanished with the recession of the late 1960s and has only recently been resurrected with the Skaledale range. Many of these buildings will be quite rare now.
Also note the Minic (not Scalextric) road system which was another big investment for Tri-ang and another which seemed to have failed them.

How a train wheel is made - Sandvik Coromant
To produce railway wheels that securely runs mile after mile puts high demands on the manufacturing. It involves a chain including different forming processes, testings and metal cutting with turning tools specially developed for this area. See how it's done!
