Ré Ó Laighleis at Scéal Eile Bookshop, Ennis, Ireland
A reading by the acknowledged writer Re Ó Laighleis during Ennis Book Club festival 2010 at Scéal Eile Bookshop. He read in Irish and English, with Fred Johnston, who read in French and English. Ó Laighleis explains and reads from his bitingly satirical comment on the Irish arts' scene, 'Shapers.'

Ennis Book Club Festival
The Ennis Book Club Festival is a wonderful social and literary gathering bringing together book club members and readers from all over Ireland and beyond. Supported by Clare County Library, the festival includes author readings, discussions, workshops and walking tours through the narrow streets and lanes of Ennis. We offer sessions on running book clubs, advice on reading lists, poetry, events as Gaeilge, and an opportunity to compare notes and meet with other Book Club members.
Over the years the festival has attracted wonderful authors and speakers including Edna O'Brien, Nuala O'Faolain, Roddy Doyle, Anne Enright, Lionel Shriver, Joseph O'Connor, Paul Durcan, Peter Sheridan, Paul Murray, Anne Enright and Patrick McCabe to name but a few.
Come and combine your love of reading with a great weekend away!

Poet Noel King Reads His Work In Gallery Café, Gort, Co. Galway - Ireland
Lovely reading by Noel King from his new collection, 'Prophesying the Past,' at Gort, Co. Galway's Gallery Café, June 10th 2010. The event was organised by The Western Writers' Centre - Ionad Scríbhneoirí Chaitlín Maude - Galway {twwc.ie} Clare Sawtell also read from her work and she (cello) and Mary O'Sullivan played the music. Among the audience was multiple Bisto Award winning author, Kate Thompson. There was a question session afterwards. Sadly, no representative of Salmon Poetry, who published the book, managed to make the reading. The Gallery Café hosts readings, a singer-songwriters' night and a small cinema club. And the food's great, too! Our thanks to the proprietor and staff.

This footage is from a recent talk Paul gave at Huntington Castle as part of the 2014 History Festival.
The topic covered is Castledermot 1264, 750 years of the Parliamentary System of Government in Ireland which was drawn from an article written by Paul and published in History Ireland.
Paul also touches on the role of his home town Carlow, and its place as the medieval administrative capital of Ireland.
