Sri Lanka’s Amazing Galle Face Hotel | Colombo
We’re staying in Sri Lanka while in Transit to Mumbai, India.
Of course we wanted to experience the historic GALLE FACE HOTEL in Colombo est 1864 which has a beautiful colonial style. It’s been well maintained and renovated and keeps that colonial charm. The food and staff top notch and the location couldn’t be better on the seaside.

A Road Trip Through Sri Lanka | Vlog Bruised Passports
This is more a personal diary than a video! :) We didn't intend to vlog our road trip in Sri Lanka but it was just so beautiful that we ended up recording bits and bobs
We started in in Colombo, explored the Southern Province of Sri Lanka including Mirissa, Unawatuna, and Galle, stayed in Yala National Park and went on safari, stayed at Jetwing Surf Hotel in Arugam Bay, explored offbeat beaches of Eastern Sri Lanka, explored temples and monasteries around Anuradhapura, spent a few days in Sigiriya and went hiking, skipped Kandy as it is Sri Lanka’s most visited town, and finally visited tea plantations in Nuwara Eliya and Ella. We discovered the most beautiful hotels and scenic drives in Sri Lanka on our road trip. This road trip in Sri Lanka is definitely one we will remember for a long time. In fact this road trip in Sri Lanka will go in the list of our best road trips in the world

Sri Lanka 2016
We took 3 weeks off to explore Sri Lanka—or little India as it felt for me. Beautiful landscapes, sunsets and gentle people all over the place made this trip perfect. And with two daily sized backpacks, travelling never has been more convenient. Thanks Markus.

Sri Lanka Cinematic Travel Video: Chapter 2 - Land Of Tea - DJI Spark
Chapter 2: Land Of Tea (Sri Lanka)
Sri Lanka is a country full of nature and beauty, a truly incredible place to visit.
From the warm faces of the locals, to the breathtaking scenic views - I was completely surprised at how much I fell in love with Sri Lanka. I was taught many lessons during this trip, but most importantly freedom and love comes from within. Travelling is an amazing experience but it should never be an escape.
Previously Chapter 1 showed the rawness of New Zealand. But Chapter 2 shows the story of my time in Sri Lanka and the true essence of the country...

Sri Lanka New Years Break - 8 days in 8 hotels across Sri Lanka
After reading plenty of blogs and the lonely planet my friend and I planned our New Years get away to Sri Lanka. We took a direct flight from Mumbai to Colombo via Sri Lankan Airlines.
We arrived at 1130pm. Checked into Pledge 3 for the night in Negambo.
Booked an Uber to Habarana the next morning after breakfast and a walk on the beach.
On the way, we stopped at the Dambulla Rock Caves and the Golden Buddha Temple next doors.
Stayed at the Cinnamon Lodge Habarana. Don’t get fooled by the name. It is not a lodge but a massive 5* sized property!
Booked a massage at Thrimal Ayurveda for 60m. Bliss. Especially their steam box! The next morning we hiked up Sigiriya (Lions Rock). Magnificent. Opens at 7am. Carry your passport for a discount if your country is a part of the SAARC countries.
The next stop was another Cinnamon Hotel in Kandy. At 6pm. we rushed to the Buddha tooth relic temple. We missed the traditional dancers. But we saw the ceremony to the beat of drums. Midland restaurant next door served us yummy Sri Lankan cuisine.
We managed to buy sold out 1st. class tickets for the Kandy - Ella Train at double the cost. 1500 INR each or $20pp
Reached Ella on the 31st evening. Stayed at BBQ HUB. It was central and cozy. Grabbed a bite at Cafe Chill. Was vibrant and had a buzz.
Made some friends on the train and connected with them to bring in the New Year together at One Love cafe later that evening.
The next day we took a taxi to Mirissa. Saw a wild elephant on the edge on the road as we passed by Udanwale National Park. Also saw plenty of peacocks. Arrived after dark into Mirissa. Stayed at Handagedara Hotel. Was in the heart of Mirissa Beach area. Booked whale watching for 6am the next morning and hit the streets to find dinner. Everything closes by 10! Some beach shacks are operating till 2am. Did dinner and beers in one of them. Service is slow incase you’re in a hurry.
We used TripAdvisor to buy our seats for the whale watching. We used Chaminda Whale Watching. They pick you up and drop you back if you’re close. Thankfully we were.
We managed to see a few dolphins and eventually the Blue Whale. But took too long! Chaminda Whale Watching guys are persistent and refused to turn around until we saw the biggest whale in the ocean. Grateful to them.
Got back at 130pm. Tanned. Hungry and tired.
We found a highly rated placed called Dewmani Roti Shop in Mirissa. Their chop chop (Kothu) with shrimp was excellent. Also their roti with chocolate.
From there to Coconut Hill. We were advised to visit at sunrise. But as we were staying in Weligama that night we did sunset as we didn’t want to return because we had book a safari in Yala for 230pm the next day. Coconut tree hill was packed with tourists trying to capture all the palm trees. A shack lies below. We found a table, ordered a couple of beers and watched the most magnificent sun set ever! Highly recommended.
That night we stayed at Brizo Weligama. Had dinner at Chef Akila Kitchen. Did a drink at the J W Marriott Weligama and called it a night.
The next morning grabbed a coffee and a bite at Good Story Coffee Shop. Nice cafe and perfect way to start the day.
Took a taxi to Yala. Check into the Cinnamon Wild. What a property! A must stay.
We picked Yala because we wanted to see Leopards. We saw lots of wild rabbits. Elephants (3 in total). Peacocks. Buffalos. Wild bore. Eagles. Crocodiles. Just no leopards.
The hotel more than made up for the safari though
After check out we booked a taxi to take us to Galle. Stopped by Hriketiya Beach. A must if you want to learn how to surf. And The Doctors House for dinner.
Stayed at 56@Decco in Galle which is in the heart of Galle Fort Area. Had a drink at the Dutch Hospital. The next day we did lunch with some new friends we met on the Ella train at The Tuna and The Crab. Best seafood I’ve ever had! A must.
Swam in the ocean. The beaches in Galle Fort are rocky and not too much fun.
That evening we caught our flight back to Mumbai. The entire trip cost us $2200.
Sri Lanka is fabulous and we can’t wait to go back. Want to climb Adams peak and do a week of surf classes in Hriketya.
The pictures were shot on a GoPro 7 Black + iPhone 6 and my friends iPad (her iPhone 6S crashed on day 2)

R,T&D Ella, Sri Lanka 2013
Ella is a beautiful town on the southern edge of Sri Lanka's Hill Country. It's situated in the middle of beautiful countryside with a mild climate perfect for walking through the valleys and up to Little Adam's Peak, along the railway tracks to the famous arched railway bridge and the tea plantations. We stayed at The View Hotel, with incredible sweeping views and just a quick stroll into the township. Worth the visit is the spectacular Rawana Ella Falls, only 5km away on the road through Ella Gap.
A trip to the countryside should include lunch at the 98 Acres Resort and Spa with its incredible views, service and quality of food.
We loved Ella and its friendly people.
