Our spring adventures at the Schafbergbahn (train that takes you up the mountain) in St.Wolfgang continue. More specifically, we used Salzburg's Seenland (Seeham) as our base of operations, and drove out to several locations. One of them was St.Wolfgang in Oberösterreich. St. Wolfgang im Salzkammergut is a market town in central Austria, in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria, named after Saint Wolfgang of Regensburg. The Schafberg Railway is a metre gauge cog railway in Upper Austria and Salzburg leading from Sankt Wolfgang im Salzkammergut up to the Schafberg. With a total length of 5.85 km it gains about 1,200 m in height difference.

Day Trip: St. Wolfgang, Wolfgangsee Lake and the St. Gilgen Cable Cars
The following video will highlight the how to make the most out of a day at Wolfgansee Lake.
Start your day by exploring the beautiful St Wolfgang. There are loads of things to do at St Wolfgang, but it would be best to spend only around 2-3 hours here if you wish to fit everything we did into your day.
Make sure to check out the St Wolfgang Church.
Next, you have the option of one of two things.
If you are there during the right months, we highly recommend that you buy a ticket for the SchafbergBahn. This cog railway is the steepest in Austria and the views from the top of Schafberg is truly impressive.
Be aware though that the train doesn't operate all year long.
For those of you, who like us, visit this region when the cog railway isn't operating, here is another great idea.
Grab some tickets for the Wolfgansee ferry. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful peaceful ride all the way to the end of the lake at St Gilgen.
St Gilgen is another beautiful town and if you have the time, it is worth strolling around here. But before you do, head over to the St Gilgen Cable Car (Zwölferhorn Mountain Cable Car) and enjoy a ride to the top for some truly stunning views over the lake and mountains.
Finish your day with ice cream and a casual boat ride back to St Wolfgang.
We hope you enjoyed our video on what to do at Lake Wolfgang in one day.

After our speedboat ride on Lake Wolfgangsee, we took the Schafberg Railway up to the top of the mountain that overlooks the lake. First opened for operations in 1893, the railway is a cog railway that has a toothed rack rail in between the running rails which enables the engine to climb the steep grade of the tracks without slipping back down the hill. The summit at the top of the mountain is at an elevation of 5,700 feet, giving us spectacular views of the surrounding mountains, lakes, and valleys below.

The SchafbergBahn is the steepest cogwheel railway in Austria. Since 1893 mighty steam locomotives have powered their way from the lake-side base station in St. Wolfgang to the 1783 m high summit of the Schafberg.
The SchafbergBahn allows every visitor to conquer the mountain in comfort and style, making the entire journey an unforgettable experience! Trains are in service from May through to the end of September.

From the top you may see numerous Alpine lakes and the Dachstein glacier. In 2012 the Hotel Schafbergspitze celebrated its proud 150th anniversary!
The trip to the top of the Schafberg starts at the lake-side base station in St. Wolfgang. After a few minutes, the track crosses the provincial border between Salzburg and Upper Austria, before continuing its steep ascent through lush fields and green forests. At Dorneralm (1015m/3330ft above sea level) the first siding is reached. This is where the historic steam locomotives pause to take water. The next stop is the quaint station of Schafbergalpe at 1363 m (4472 ft). From there it takes another 10 minutes for the train to reach the summit. This segment is probably the most spectacular and already offers impressive views in

This time I have a special goodie for you, a ride with the famous cog railway up to Mount Schafberg, a mountain in the historic region called Salzkammergut not far from the Austrian city Salzburg. The mountain is surrounded by alot of beautiful lakes like Wolgangssee, Mondsee, Attersee and a bit away other lakes too like Fuschlsee or Irrsee. From the top of Mount Schafberg we have again a fantastic view into the panorama of the Austrian and Bavarien alps.
St. Wolfgang, Austria
The market town of Sankt Wolfgang (Austria) is located in a privileged place at the North end of Lake Wolfgang (Wolfgangsee), at the foot of the Schafberg mountain. From St. Wolfgang a cog railway leads up onto the 1,768m high Schafberg. It is the steepest steam Cog Railway in Austria and covers a distance of 6km in approximately 45 minutes. Once you arrive at the peak of the Schafberg, a gorgeous view of the Lake opens up along with the surrounding villages of Strobl and St. Gilgen. One of Austria’s most enchanting lake resorts, St. Wolfgang enjoys an especially picturesque setting on the shores of Lake Wolfgang. It is a place of great character, where pretty painted houses and shops line the narrow cobbled streets, and most evenings the town comes alive with open-air brass band concerts and frequent indoor classic and operetta concerts. St. Wolfgang is also an ideal base for excursions to nearby Salzburg and the UNESCO village of Hallstatt. In the pilgrimage church of St. Wolfgang is one of the most famous gothic altars in the world, carved by Michael Pacher. In addition, a visit to the world famous “White Horse Inn” is a must, the backdrop of one of the most successful operetta of all time. Choose a holiday to St Wolfgang to explore a beautifully rustic market town on the shores of the Wolfgangsee lake, known for its picturesque lakefront church.

Wanderung von St. Wolfgang auf den Schafberg (1753 Meter N. N.) ????
Wanderung von Sankt Wolfgang über die Dorneralm und Schafbergalpe auf die Schafbergspitze (1753 Meter N.N.)
Tour Daten:

Wolfgangsee & Schafberg
So it was finally a nice day here in Germany, so my parents and I decided to head down to Wolfgangsee & Schafberg. It was a super pretty trip and an amazing time. It does cost a bit of money to take the train up to the top of Schafberg with the Schafberhbahn, but it is worth it if you really like amazing views. You could also hike the mountain which would take around 4 hours I believe. Wolfgangsee and Schafberg is about 45 minutes south east of Salzburg. I know I will be going back:) If you enjoyed the video, make sure you give it a thumbs up and leave a comment. If you really liked it, make sure to subscribe for more travel videos.
