The Schenley Experiment: A Social History of Pittsburgh’s First Public High School
THE SCHENLEY EXPERIMENT by Jake Oresick, out April 15th from Penn State University Press, is the story of Pittsburgh’s first public high school. Schenley was a social incubator in a largely segregated city that was highly—even improbably—successful throughout its 156-year existence. Schenley alumnus Jake Oresick tells this story through interviews, historical documents, and hundreds of first-person accounts drawn from a community indelibly tied to the school. More info at

Why you need to go to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix next year
It was the freakin' weekend and time to have some fun. We did. Between hanging out with some great friends, tunnel runs, hosting a fan meet, heading out to the drag strip in the 850R, and attending one of the best car shows on the planet, I'd say it was tolerable.
The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is a vintage motor sports car race and 10-day motorsport festival that takes place annually in mid-July in Schenley Park located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States. With an estimated 250,000 spectators during the 10 days, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is the largest vintage sports car race in the United States. The race originated in 1983 and is now the longest-continually-running vintage road race in the nation, with an ever-widening national and international recognition as one of the premier vintage motorsports events. The race is the highlight of a 10-day Race Week that includes the Historic Races at Pitt-Race Complex for faster vintage cars on the opening weekend, various car shows, cruises, galas, and the Kick-Off Rallye. Funds raised by the event benefit the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School, which care for individuals with mental and physical disabilities. The event at Schenley Park hosts 150 vintage racers, over 2,000 show cars and 200,000 weekend spectators.[5] The course, considered to be one of the most challenging in the world, traverses Schenley Park's Serpentine Drive and consists of a 2.33 mile circuit that has 23 turns, haybales, manhole covers, phone poles, and stone walls.[5] 2015 marked the 33rd consecutive year of the races. Qualifying races were staged on Saturday, July 18 and the Featured Races took place on Sunday July 19 with 7 races each day. A record $360,000 was raised for charity. Since 1983 the event has donated $3.9 million to autistic and developmentally disabled individuals through the Autism Society of Pittsburgh and Allegheny Valley School.
The Grand Prix has grown into a 10-day celebration of motorsports and in addition to two weekends of racing it now includes a blacktie gala, a road rallye, a downtown parade & car display, Hard Rock Cafe concert, Countryside Tour and three distinct car shows.

I'm also the producer for the Winding Road YouTube Channel:
Here on TheTopher, I'm known for putting a camera on my face and driving cars. Whether it's about any of my personal cars or reviews on weekly test vehicles, the goal is to give you an idea of what a certain car is like to drive or live with. Most of my videos are filmed in POV, with my clothes on, and (for like the 5th time) with in-ear binaural audio. Which, if I haven't made it clear yet, is why you should wear headphones. Because of the whole woah factor. It's there, trust me. Try it, you'll see! Or don't. As long as you whitelist me on your adblocker I'm okay with whatever you do or don't do with regards to headphone usage. That is all. Oh and I guess you should also probably subscribe. Why are you still reading this, you should be watching the video. With headphones! Hah, had to sneak that in there one more time. Later!

Places to see in ( Pittsburgh - USA )
Places to see in ( Pittsburgh - USA )
Pittsburgh is a city in western Pennsylvania at the junction of 3 rivers. Its Gilded Age sites, including the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, speak to its history as an early-20th-century industrial capital. In the North Shore neighborhood are the modern Andy Warhol Museum, Heinz Field football stadium and PNC Park baseball stadium.
The pleasure of Pittsburgh remains a well-kept secret. Though not built up by reputation, the city's unique combination of bridges, steep hills, and broad rivers make it one of the most naturally scenic cities in the country. Cheap food and beer abound in this true sports town and the locals are amazingly friendly.
The first European to discover the site of Pittsburgh was French discoverer/trader Sieur de La Salle in his 1669 expedition. The settlement of Pittsburgh began as a strategic point at the confluence of three rivers, with Britain, France, and the local Native American tribes all vying for control over this spot and thus, the region. On what is now referred to as The Point, where the rivers meet, several forts were constructed by competing French and British forces during the French and Indian War. In 1758, British general John Forbes ordered the construction of Fort Pitt, named after British Secretary of State William Pitt the Elder. He also named the settlement between the rivers Pittsborough.

Debate continues over what to do with Schenley
The upcoming sale of the old Schenley High School building was a topic of discussion Monday night at the Pittsburgh Public Schools board meeting. Some alumni want to turn it into a school for the arts.
