Hohenschwangau Castle (Schloss Hohenschwangau) - near Füssen, Germany
Hohenschwangau Castle is the original castle that Ludwig II of Bavaria grew up in. When he became an adult he commissioned the building of his dream fairy tale castle Neuschwanstein nearby (now one of the biggest tourist attractions in Germany).
By now Ludwig had gotten the nickname of mad king (as well as the Swan King) for his extravagant spending habits. Although he spent some time at Neuschwanstein, he died mysteriously a few years later and the castle was never completed.
Since Neuschwanstein is the major attraction, some people choose to ignore visiting Hohenschwangau, which is withing walking distance. That is a shame, for this castle is just as beautiful and charming in its own right and you get to see so much more during one of the tours, than you do at Neuschwanstein (please see my separate You Tube video upload I did of that castle also)
Located on the Romantic Road (Romantische Strasse), it is one of the very last stops on that road. As always, Ed does most of the video filming (and narration that you'll hear), I did most of the still photography and then edited it all and created the final upload that you see here.

Hohenschwangau Germany - Castle Neuschwanstein
After touring Castle Neuschwanstein, we walk back down the mountain to catch the bus back to Munich. It would have been nice to stop at several of the places at the base of the castle or down in the little town at the bottom of the mountain, but we didn't have my time after the tour to make it back to the bus.
