Schloss Münster, officially Fürstbischöfliches Schloss Münster, is the schloss built as the residence if the duke-bishop of Münster, Germany. It was built between 1767 and 1787 in baroque style as a mansion for the last but one prince-bishop Maximilian Friedrich von Königsegg-Rothenfels. The architect was Johann Conrad Schlaun. Since 1954 it has been the seat and landmark of the Westphalian Wilhelms University. The castle is built from the typical Baumberger sandstone of Münster.
The Palace in Münster, former seat of the Prince-Bishops and a work of Baroque master builder Johann Conrad Schlaun, was badly damaged by bombs during the Second World War. It was restored to its former glory by 1953. The Palace is now the administrative centre for the University, while the magnificent Botanical Gardens, which are well worth a visit, are located in the Schlossgarten, or palace grounds.
Of course, Münster Castle can not be missed during a visit to Münster . It is a very good starting point for a stroll through the streets of the city. In the immediate vicinity are numerous attractions for their visit you should plan some time. The castle Münster was until 1803 prince-bishop residence. The architect Johann Conrad Schlaun erected the baroque building for Münster's penultimate prince-bishop Maximilian Friedrich von Königsegg-Rothenfels.

Münster is an independent city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Muenster is in the northern part of the state and is considered to be the cultural centre of the Westphalia region. Muenster is also capital of the local government region Münsterland. Münster was the location of the Anabaptist rebellion during the Protestant Reformation and the site of the signing of the Treaty of Westphalia ending the Thirty Years' War in 1648. Today it is known as the bicycle capital of Germany.
Münster is situated on the river Aa, approximately 15 kilometres (9 miles) south of its confluence with the Ems in the Westphalian Bight, a landscape studded with dispersed settlements and farms, the so-called Münsterland. The Wolstonian sediments of the mountain ridge called Münsterländer Kiessandzug cross the city from north to south. The highest elevation is the Mühlenberg in the northwest of Münster, 97 metres above sea level. The lowest elevation is at the Ems with 44 m above sea level. The city centre is 60 m above sea level, measured at the Prinzipalmarkt in front of the historic city hall.
Münster claims to be the bicycle capital of Germany. Münster's Central Station is on the Wanne-Eickel–Hamburg railway. The city is connected by Intercity trains to a lot of other German major cities. Historically, Münster had a historic tramway system, but later closed in 1954. Today, Münster does have some public transportation, which includes bus expresses.

Münster is a city in western Germany. It’s known for the 13th-century St. Paulus Dom cathedral, built in the Gothic and Romanesque styles. Prinzipalmarkt square is framed by gabled houses, the Gothic city hall and late medieval St. Lamberti Church. The gardens of baroque Schloss Münster palace include greenhouses of the Botanical Garden. The Pablo Picasso Art Museum features a collection of the painter’s lithographs.
There are some 500,000 bicycles in Münster – and that's just one example of the exuberance found in this captivating city, one of the most appealing between Cologne and Hamburg. It's historical centre was rebuilt after WWII and features many architectural gems. Yet Münster is not mired in nostalgia. Its 50,000 students keep the cobwebs out and civic pride is great – the town's main cultural treasures have enjoyed ambitious renovations and enhancements. Sampling the slew of lively pubs and restaurants alone warrants at least an overnight stop here.
A historic university city, Münster is the capital of Westphalia and has a skyline shaped by the Romanesque and Gothic towers of its medieval churches. For hundreds of years up to 1801 the city was ruled by a Catholic Prince-Bishopric. This dominion was only briefly interrupted by an Anabaptist rebellion, which was crushed in brutal fashion by a siege and grisly execution of its leaders who were left to rot in cages over the Prinzipalmarkt square.
The Old Town suffered during the Second World War, but its limestone Renaissance and Gothic facades were meticulously reconstructed afterwards. Many of these buildings resonate with world-changing history, like the Historical City Hall where the Peace of Westphalia was signed in 1648, redrawing the map of Western Europe.
The centre can be subdivided into historically evolved city districts whose borders are not always strictly defined, such as

The Botanischer Garten Münster is a botanical garden maintained by the University of Münster. It is located directly behind the Prince Bishop's Castle, within the castle grounds at 3 Schloßgarten, Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and open daily free of charge.
The garden was begun in 1803 by Freiherr vom Stein for the university's medical faculty, with first greenhouses built in 1804. From 1806-1815, during the occupation of Westphalia by French troops and the Congress of Vienna, its emphasis changed from medicinal plants to a primary focus on indigenous plants. Its first seed catalog issued in 1827, and its orangery was constructed in 1840. Noted botanist Carl Correns (1864-1933) directed the garden from 1909-1915, with the first tropical greenhouse built in 1935. The garden was severely damaged during World War II, with all its greenhouses destroyed. Even so in 1952 the garden was partially restored and five greenhouses had been rebuilt. An artificial stream, meadow, and moor were created during the 1990s, and in 2005 a new medicinal garden added.
Today the garden contains about 8,000 species, including a major collection of 230 of the 280 known Pelargonium species. In addition to ten greenhouses (total area about 2,000 m²), major garden sections are as follows:
Alpine garden with plants from the Alps and Pyrenees
Arboretum, as well as birch-oak forest and Tilia-beech trees
Australia and New Zealand plants
Cottage garden from the 1900s, featuring vegetables and herbs
Mediterranean plants, kept in the orangery in cold months
Moor and heath
Systematic garden of seed plants
Tropical house
Victoria House, containing Victoria regia
The garden contains a good selection of rare and mature tree specimens in its arboretum, including orange trees that are over 200 years old.

The Stadtmuseum Münster deals with the city history of the Westphalian city of Münster. The city museum was founded in 1979 and was initially located in the Gerling Villa on Windthorststraße . The opening took place on August 31, 1982 with the exhibition The Anabaptists . As this building proved to be too small for the museum, in 1989, according to designs by the architects Rainer Maria Kresing and Christoph von Hausen, the vacant Althoff department store on the Salzstrasse was expanded to become the new location of the museum. Here are located next to the museum and numerous shops. The facade of the old department store has been preserved and is a listed building. In the Gerling Villa today is the Museum of Lacquer Art .
The permanent collection is located on the first and second floors. In a total of 33 cabinets covering a total area of 2,500 m², the time from the founding of the city to the end of the prince-bishopric in the 19th century and in the second the Neuzerit are treated thematically as documented with witnesses . The development of the city is illustrated by city and building models, the city life through the historic Café Müller from the 1950s and the living with the exhibited room of the Munster Art Nouveau artist Bernhard Pankokt presented. After foundation of the city museum with the support of sponsors a collection of the baroque painter Johann Bockhorst becamecreated. Bockhorst was born around 1604 in Münster, in Antwerp a close collaborator of Peter Paul Rubens and a friend of Anthonis van Dyck . His work is now part of the collection of the museum, which on the occasion of his 330th year of death in 1998 was again extensively seen in Münster, after only a few of his works were preserved as a result of the Second World War .
In addition to the permanent exhibition collection, the Stadtmuseum organizes numerous special exhibitions on current topics as well as on special anniversaries. In recent years, these have included exhibitions on excavations on the Stubengasse , on the inland port, which has changed its appearance in the last years of the 20th century and today serves as a cultural zone with pubs and studios for artists. Further exhibitions are dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Stadtwerke Münster , to the 1200th anniversary of the founding of the city by Liudger and the founder of the zoo , Hermann Landois . There were also photo exhibitions during the fat yearsthe 1950s and the bitter years after the Second World War. Furthermore, there was an exhibition on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the first German concert of the Rolling Stones , which took place on September 11, 1965 in the Halle Münsterland .
A branch of the Stadtmuseum Münster is the kennel on the promenade . Originally built as a defense tower in the years around 1525/1528, the kennel later served as a prison, painter's studio, cultural center of the Hitler Youth and in the Second World War temporarily again as a prison and execution site of the Secret State Police (Gestapo). In 1987 and 1997 he was in the context of the Skulptur.Projekte as a memorial to the victims of violence in Münster, to the victims of war violence and the persecution of innocent people, especially the inhumane criminal justice and terror against political opponents, members of minorities and prisoners of war during the Nazi regimeexpanded. For this the artist Rebecca Horn realized the sculpture The Counter Concert .

Places to see in ( Muenster - Germany ) Muenster Cathedral
Münster Cathedral or St.-Paulus-Dom is the cathedral church of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Münster in Germany, and is dedicated to St Paul. It is counted among the most significant church buildings in Münster and, along with the City Hall, is one of the symbols of the city.
The cathedral stands in the heart of the city, on a small hill called Horsteberg, which is encircled by the Roggenmarkt, Prinzipalmarkt und Rothenburg streets and by the Münstersche Aa river. This area, which also contains the Domplatz and surrounding buildings, was the old Domburg. Today the cathedral is the parish church for this area. West of the cathedral lies the bishop's palace and part of the old curia complex along with the current cathedral chapter.
The cathedral had two predecessors. The first cathedral (called the Ludgerus Dom, 805-1377) stood to the north of the current cathedral; the second cathedral was built in the tenth or eleventh century and was demolished during the construction of the third and current cathedral between 1225 and 1264. The imposing westwerk with its nearly identical towers was built as part of the second cathedral around 1192 and was incorporated into the current building. As a result, the cathedral is a mixture of styles, combining the Romanesque westwerk, old choir and west towers with the Gothic nave, transepts, high choir and ring of chapels.
Each of the cathedral buildings served as the cathedral church of the Diocese of Munster, but each also had additional functions, at least at times. The original Carolingian cathedral was also the Collegiate church for a cloister founded by Liudger, with the monks living under the rule of Chrodegang. Each cathedral served as a parish church, originally for the whole of Munster. As a result of the foundation of further parish churches, the parish district of the cathedral was reduced to the Old Domburg and Domimmunität in 1090. In the first half of the thirteenth century, the Church of St Jacobi was built on the Domplatz. With the completion of this church, the cathedral, which was then under construction, lost its function as a parish church entirely. Since the demolition of St Jacobi in 1812, the cathedral regained its role as parish church for the Old Domburg and Domimmunität.
The cathedral contains the tomb of the former Bishop of Munster, Clemens August Graf von Galen who became a Cardinal shortly before his death in 1946 and was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2005.

Places to see in ( Muenster - Germany ) Lake Aasee
Aasee is a lake at Münster, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. At an elevation of 54 m, its surface area is 0.402 km². The Aasee is Münster’s most central local recreation area. It’s only a 15 minute walk from the Prinzipalmarkt and offers a whole range of interesting leisure activities for young and old - from walking through sailing trips to visits to the zoo.
With its picturesque paths, the Aasee attracts promenaders, bicyclists, and inline skaters to the countryside. A boat rental, a sailing school, and two sailing clubs invite you to explore the lake from the water. The physical well-being of the trippers is catered to by coffeehouses, restaurants, and hotels all around the lake.
The park around the Aasee, comprising approximately 900.000 square metres, was awarded a prize as Europe’s most beautiful park in 2009 (Europas schönster Park des Jahres 2009). Whoever is on his way around the Aasee won’t get past modern art. That’s because there are a lot of sculptures around the lake that have been created by internationally renowned artists specifically for the four major sculpture exhibitions from 1977 to 2007.
During the summer months, guests are shuttled by the solar boat SOLAARIS from the city centre to the four special Aasee attractions. The Allwetterzoo (All-Weather Zoo) is best-known to many from the ARD programme Pinguin, Löwe & Co”. Hippomax, the Westfälische Pferdemuseum (Westphalian Horse Museum) which is also located in the Allwetterzoo, is all about horses.
