Fusion, Sequences and Variations or the Landscapes of an Obsessive Eye ... is the title of my individual show I presented in March of 2010 at the local School of Fine Arts, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. The exhibition consisted of 69 works, from which only 39 were chosen by the exhibition curator. All these works do outlining three different stages of my experience after a retina detachment (2008-10). My eye had gone through three months of visual changes and I was unaware of what was going on, because I associated these special effects that were being staged on my field of vision with paranormal experience and not a physical signs of an eye problem.
From September through December of 2008 I could see all sorts of interesting special effects over my field of vision. For the first time I was seeing items that I had created on my images through the years, elements such as bright lights, sparking lights, lines, dots, ropes and crystal beings, which were hidden elements on my creative work.
I am and have been an underground artist, who has managed to sell my work despite the lack of a diligent and visionary agent, both locally and internationally. I have managed to self- promote myself and make my presence be felt beyond the geographical boundaries on which I move, so much so that from 1983 to 1990 I was posted, by invitation in Who's Who in American Art and back then the Internet did not exist, but I was noted by many art lovers of the Visual Arts through the means of paid visual arts publications placed from the State of Georgia, USA (where I lived at that time until 1983).
I learned years later that this great human being named Ranice Grosby, (a medical illustrator, artist and professor at the Hopkins University) was responsible for my inclusion in Who's Who in American Art and my hiring as a graphic artist in the Federal Government during four years in Fort Gordon, Georgia, (which help me develop a number of skills in the graphics, including silk screen and hand painting banners).
I want to publicly recognize her help in advancing my art career and given me the enough encourage to continue. Professor Grosby visited my studio in Augusta, Georgia around March of 1979. We wrote each other for several years. She stopped writing few years before her death at the age of 91, which took place on February the 18th of 2007. From my early works, she always thought I had the necessary skills to become a medical illustrator. My recording of the effects during and after a retina detachment are as close as I could get to show many of the elements of my involvement and participation with medical matters and my early studies on anatomy.
The experience of going through a retina detachment was awful but it widened my creative vision. Have not been for this eye problem none of these visual concepts would have ever been created.

Abandoned Housing Complex - Puerto Rico (6.3.2018)
This massive housing complex in Puerto Rico was completely abandoned. I do not know the story behind the property. Other houses around it seemed fine. There was water in the first floor stairwell. Hurricane Maria may have been a factor in its abandonment.

Artist's Statement by Daniel Bottero
It is a divine privilege to slip into the moments of unpremeditated creation that bring me face to face with the unknown. When I am painting, my brush strokes against the canvas are searching for an answer between unconscious and rhythmical movements. I step back for air and space. The essence of creation runs for my arms... my entire body... my soul... In the background, there is the music... the dancing light... darkness... sensations that run through my flesh... spaces... scents... instruments of my passion. All these blend in an enchanting symphony.
When it is over, I am left with no recollection of how it happened. And yet, I find myself confronted with a finished creation, waiting to be shared so that it may become the source of new and deeper inspiration.
My restless longing for all that is creative, intuitive, sincere and harmonious leads me to a place that transcends conventional reality. Mastering of my medium grants me an eternal freedom of expression. It is a genesis, sowing within me a desire to give birth to just one universal creation: a work of art that may awaken sensations that lie dormant in all of our hearts. A painting to inspire all humanity to join and participate in our own evolution.
Our past, our present and our future all influence my paintings. Yesterday, today, my life, New York, new encounters, loves, dreams, loneliness, strange noises and sorrows.
Each painting I create is an essential part of my inner being. My work speaks many languages, communicates on several levels at the same time. A unique psychological interaction between reality and fantasy, one that transports the observer into a dreamlike encounter with the sublime. And on these journeys, I am with them always!
It is just me, and this is my world.
Welcome!
Daniel.
