What about?
On June 3 ‘’Georgia meets Heerlen’’ event took place in Schunck, Heerlen. It was the first ever in the history of diplomatic relations between the Netherlands and Georgia official visit of the Georgian Embassy in the Hague to Limburg. Mr. George Sharvashidze, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Kingdom of the Netherlands visited Heerlen with his diplomatic team and met with the Mayor of Heerlen Mr Emile Roemer, alderman Martin de Beer and entrepreneurs from Heerlen, region Parkstad and surroundings. During the event there was also a surprise digital visit of Jesper Zwart, Dutch tourist who was the 6th million tourist of Georgia and who was welcomed in a truly amazing way by Georgia while arriving in Tbilisi. Jesper is now a true celebrity in Georgia and he recorded a message for all the guests and a special invitation to the Mayor of Heerlen, Mr Emile Roemer.
Mr. Aloys Bruggeman, RE RA entrepreneur was the initiator of the event.

Schunck is the name of former fashion house and department store Firma Schunck in Heerlen, the Netherlands.It is also the name for the collection of buildings the firm has been housed in, one of which is known as the Glaspaleis , which is now a cultural centre and declared one of the 1000 most important buildings of the 20th century by the Union of International Architects.The business grew from a small weaver's shop to the major warehouse in Heerlen and the innovating force in that town when coal mining declined.Over more than a century, it has been run by four consecutive generations of the family Schunck.

Schunckis one of the most important architecture buildings of the 20th century. In the buidling are 5 cultural departments: a cinema, a music school, a public library, gallery and centre for architecture.

The Glass Palace / Glaspaleis is one of the most important examples of Dutch Modernism, and was designed and built by Fritz Peutz in 1935 as a department store. There was originally a supermarket in the basement, a grand entrance on the ground floor, fashion shops on several floors, a restaurant on the fifth floor, and the client’s penthouse on the top floor, overlooking this mining city in the southern part of the Netherlands. The Heerlen based architect proved to be a true innovator: he ‘packed’ his ‘stacked market’ in glass, with a large transparent glass-coated façade in fine metal profiles. The construction, visible from the outside, consists of beamless floors resting on white mushroom columns. The open and transparent Glaspaleis became the architectural eye-catcher of Heerlen
Threatened with demolition in the 1990s, the building was purchased by the city of Heerlen, after which it was renovated according to the existing drawings. The steel-framed glass curtain wall was reconstructed to match the original, and a new layered façade was added to the south side of the building, where it had originally shared a party-wall with (no longer existing) buildings. ) It has gained new purpose: cultural institutions (cinema, music school, public library and town gallery) and Vitruvianum (centre for architecture in the Euregion Maas-Rhine), provide a varied programme full of music, film, dance, literature, expressive art and architecture.
The freestanding addition of the music school is set away from the Schunck cultural center so as to frame the visual axis of the adjacent church tower. On the interior, the low, detached partitions of the library, cinema, music school, and gallery allow the original reinforced concrete columns to remain exposed as the primary elements structuring the spaces of the building. Both inside and outside, the renovation allows the original qualities of the design to be clearly experienced by new generations of Heerlen residents.

UNIEKE PLATENHOEZEN BIJ SCHUNCK IN HEERLEN
Zijn collectie is vele tonnen waard en een deel ervan is nu te zien op de tentoonstelling Visual Vinyl in Heerlen.
Verzamelaar Jan van Toorn verzamelt zijn halve leven al platenhoezen van bekende kunstenaars.
Hij heeft ze er inmiddels zo'n 4 a 5 duizend verzameld. En zo'n vierhonder daarvan zijn te zien in Heerlen.
Het is voor het eerst dat er in Nederland zo'n grote overzichtstentoonstelling is georganiseerd.
Er zijn hoezen te zien van beroemde kunstenaars als Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst en Jef Koons. Vaak gaat het om kleine gesigneerde oplages.
Verzamelaars betalen er vaak duizenden euro's voor.
