Scorching Bay - Wellington
10am 30th March 2011. Took a 'detour' on the way to work.
Scorching Bay Beach, Wellington (2019)
This beach has the softest white sand in Wellington. And you can watch the interislander ferries pass by from this beach. Settled in a quieter area of Wellington city, it's away from much of the hassle and bustle of the inner city suburbs. However since it's Autumn currently in NZ and Australia, that means the sun starts going down at 3:30 pm.

A Stunning Spring Day At Oriental Bay, Wellington, New Zealand
Oriental Bay is a suburb of Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. Located close to the CBD on Wellington Harbour, it has the closest beaches to the central city and is thus a popular spot both for living and for visiting.
Oriental Bay is situated against the northern slope of Mount Victoria, 1.5 kilometres southeast of the city centre, at the start of a coastal route which continues past Hataitai around Evans Bay. The suburb was named after one of the first ships to bring settlers to Wellington.
In the summer months, Oriental Bay becomes a hive of activity. The beach is consumed with swimmers, party goers and families. The Carter Fountain is a distinctive feature in the Bay, as is the wooden barge which is often covered in swimmers.

34 Km adventure walk, Wellington NZ
In short I was bored (amongst other things) so headed off on a day long walk to gather my thoughts so to speak. Planned on following the coastline all the way but tide and fatigue drove me inland back to the start point...which ironically was nearly the same distance as doing the intended route, but was safer given I was new to the area. The steep beach is the Cook Straight separating the North and South Islands. Where you see the dark jagged rocks in the distance, I was forced up the hill on the left...450 vertical metres in about as many horizontal...

Bike Ride to Pencarrow Head | Eastbourne | Wellington | New Zealand | Lighthouse
We rented bikes and rode out to Pencarrow Head. It's a fun ride along a flat coastline track. Pencarrow has two lighthouses, the one atop the cliffs is decommissioned while the lower is still active.
Despite the track being flat the entire way, it's a hard ride in some places due to the high winds. The rough rocky coastline is beautiful. Along the way, look out for the little huts on the beach made of driftwood.
Getting There
===========
To reach Pencarrow Head, drive from Wellington to Eastbourne and park up at the car park at the end of Muritai Road. Either walk or ride along Pencarrow Coast Road to reach Pencarrow Head and the lighthouses. Bikes can be rented from The Bike Shed Pencarrow which is at the Muritai Road car park.

The aerial shots of bike riding were done using the DJI Phantom 4's Active Track Intelligent Flight mode so that it would follow me while the orbits around the lighthouse and driftwood huts were achieved using the Phantom's Point of Interest mode.
