Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

SUMMARY
=======
Scranton is the sixth-largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. It is the county seat of Lackawanna County in Northeastern Pennsylvania's Wyoming Valley and hosts a federal court building. With a population of 77,291, it is the largest city in the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre–Hazleton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of about 570,000.Scranton is the geographic and cultural center of the Lackawanna River valley, and the largest of the former anthracite coal mining communities in a contiguous quilt-work that also includes Wilkes-Barre, Nanticoke, Pittston, and Carbondale. Scranton was incorporated on February 14, 1856, as a borough in Luzerne County and as a city on April 23, 1866. It became a major industrial city, a center of mining and railroads, and attracted thousands of new immigrants. It was the site of the Scranton General Strike in 1877.
People in northern Luzerne County sought a new county in 1839 but the Wilkes-Barre area resisted losing its assets. Lackawanna County did not gain independent status until 1878. Under legislation allowing the issue to be voted by residents of the proposed territory, voters favored the new county by a proportion of 6 to 1, with Scranton residents providing the major support. The city was designated as the county seat when Lackawanna County was established in 1878, and a judicial district was authorized in 1879.
The city took its first step toward earning its reputation as the Electric City when electric lights were introduced in 1880 at Dickson Locomotive Works. Six years later, the nation's first streetcars powered exclusively by electricity began operating in the city. Rev. David Spencer, a local Baptist minister, later proclaimed Scranton as the Electric City.

Scranton Only University in the World to Receive Replica of Taiwanese Peace Bell
The University of Scranton recently received a national gift from the government of Taiwan -- a replica of that nation's renowned Kinmen Peace Bell. Ambassador Paul Wen-liang Chang, director general of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in New York, presented the bell in a dedication ceremony at the University's Loyola Science Center on Thursday, May 1. The University is the only higher education institution in the world to receive a replica of the Kinmen Peace Bell. The dedication ceremony included remarks from Ambassador Chang, University President Rev. Kevin Quinn, S.J., Harold Baillie, Ph.D., professor of philosophy, and Dr. Ann Pang-White, director of Asian Studies. Mabel De La Cruz and Joseph Ehrenreich, students in the Asian Studies program, read a poem, When the Bell of Peace is Tolled 823 Times in both Chinese and English. Dr. Mary Anne Foley, director of Peace and Justice Studies, offered a closing prayer.
Picture Perfect - A Great Band
JJBWorks shows preview of Picture Perfect local band performing at The Stroudsmoor. I tried to reduce background noise of the wedding party but I assure you this band is so much more impressive when you watch it live. They do all kinds of music from each decade starting from the 40's right up to the present. Make sure you listen to the last song which is David Bowie's Let's Dance. Magnificent!
Band leader, Edwin Velez, is not only a great director and performer but he is also a Wilkes Barre cop and a former Schiff employee. NOT TOO SHABBY!
