Croatia Sailing Trip | Part 8 | VIS Island - Komiža town | Stiniva Beach
Part 8 video footage of Our Croatia sailing trip shows some sight seeing from the Island of VIS, its marina mainland shore and Fort George along with a swim stop in the beautiful Stiniva beach.
Vis is a small Croatian island in the Adriatic Sea. The farthest inhabited island off the Croatian mainland, Vis had a population of 3,617 in 2011. Vis has an area of 90.26 square kilometres (34.85 square miles). Its highest point is Hum, which is 587 metres (1,926 feet) above sea level. The island's two largest settlements are the town of Vis on the island's eastern side (the settlement for which the island was originally named) and Komiža on its western coast.
Once known for its thriving fishing industry in the late 19th and early 20th century, the main present-day industries on the island are agriculture and tourism. Vis town and Komiža are also seats of separate administrative municipalities which cover the entire island and nearby islets, which are both part of Split-Dalmatia County. In 2017 Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again was filmed on location on Vis.
Vis was inhabited by the time of the Neolithic period. In the 4th century BC, the Greek tyrant of Syracuse, Dionysius the Elder, founded the colony Issa on the island. Later, it became an independent polis, and even minted its own money and founded its own colonies, the most notable of which was Aspálathos (the modern-day city of Split). In the 1st century BC, the island was held by the Liburnians. Its importance in the region ended with the first Illyro-Roman war (29-219 BC). Having sided with Pompeus during the period of civil struggles in Rome, became an oppidum civium Romanorum in 47 BC.
Until 1797, the island was under the rule of the Republic of Venice. During this time large settlements developed along the coastline (Comisa (now Komiža) and Lissa (now Vis)). Administratively, the island of Lissa was for centuries bound to the island of Lesina, now named Hvar. The Venetian influence is still recognizable in architecture found on the island, and some vocabulary of the Croatian dialect spoken locally is Venetian in origin.[citation needed]
After the short-lived Napoleonic Kingdom of Italy, with Italian as the official language, the island was ruled by the Austrian Empire from 1814. It maintained its Italian name of Lissa. After the end of World War I, it was under Italian rule again in the period from 1918 to 1921, according to the provisions of the 1915 Treaty of London, before it was ceded to Kingdom of Yugoslavia as part of the 1920 Treaty of Rapallo.
The sea to the north of the island was the location of two battles:
on 13 March 1811, a small Royal Navy squadron under the command of Captain William Hoste, defeated a larger French squadron in the Battle of Lissa (1811)
on 20 July 1866, the smaller Austrian fleet, under Admiral Tegetthoff, attacked the Italian fleet, under Admiral Persano, defeating the larger Italian force and sinking the Italian ironclad Re d'Italia in the Battle of Lissa (1866).

Adriatic Sea Treasure - diving around the island of Vis
Vis is a small island situated in the middle of Adriatic Sea. The island resembles a lonely mountain growing from abyss. Its steepy slopes creates outstanding underwater landscapes. Many currents which apears in that region, deliver nutrients necessarly for developing mediterranean deep water reefs. Those reefs are habitat for many fish and invertebrates.
In my opinion Vis offers the best spots to dive in Adriatic Sea. In this video I would like to show You how unique is that region. For now it is highly important to protect that area from overfishing and using destructive fishing tools and I hope it will be protected by law.
This short movie was created due to hospitality of Veljano Zanki, the owner of B-24 diving center, one of the best freedivers in the world and personaly my dear friend.

SCUBA Diving Lucica Cave, Brac, Croatia
During my last trip to Croatia, I went on my first ever cave dive! Lucica Cave is located near the Island of Brac, Croatia. The entrance to the cave is located 4 meters deep and is 39 meters deep at it's maximum depth. It's a VERY easy dive! Just Giant stride off the back of the boat and simply fall into the cave!
Lucica Cave is beautiful and I highly recommend this dive spot! Check it out!

Diving Croatia Pula
Diving in Pula Croatia July 2014. How to sum up Croatia. A beautiful country, amazing food and wine. Sunshine with spectacular storms. Close enough to Venice for a day trip. People friendly enough though an Eastern European gruffness that can take you back a bit. The diving............mmm......lets just say its not Egypt, more like Malta without the wrecks. Warm clear water about 20 metre vis. Fished out but then so is the Med. Easy diving that will bore the experienced.

Deep water reefs of island Vis - (Diving on Vis by underwater passion)
Deep water reefs around island of Vis are very abundant. Below the depth of 40m You can discover new totaly different world. It's possible to find precious red coral, golden coral and bigger aggregations of john dory. Reefs on that depths are in much better condition than on the shallow waters and the residents are much calmer when they see divers.
Enjoy the movie!

Snorkeling at the Zadar Shipwreck in Croatian Adriatic Sea
snorkeling and exploring this Shipwreck was so fun!! I'm not sure on the exact name of this ship wreck but it's not too far from Zadar.
My editing skills are pretty crappy but here's a peak into my snorkeling shipwreck experience.
