Providenciales, Turks and Caicos - Part V - The Dive
Gay Canadian partners Shawn and Kevin of Travel by Numbers head to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos on Westjet to visit Grace Bay - the #1 beach in the world. Turquoise blue and crystal clear waters await as we land on Provo, the largest of 42 islands in the Turks and Caicos chain.
In this episode, we take a final look at Grace Bay beach and then our travel buddies heather K. and Tara U. venture out in the ocean to take advantage of what Turks and Caicos is famous for - diving! The footage show some of the fish you'll see as well as lobster, hermit crab and even a Caribbean Gray Reef Shark. Diving over and alongside an ocean wall provides stunning views of geographical features most of us will never see.

Touring The Turks & Caicos Islands : 4K SCUBA Diving with Reef Sharks
The Turks & Caicos Islands are home to some of the most exceptional beaches in the world. Brilliantly white sand beaches are awash with the most captivating azure water you've ever seen. We traveled to Providenciales and North Caicos to experience the paradise that is TCI for ourselves. Aside from touring the most stunning caribbean beaches i've personally experienced, we went SCUBA diving on the northwest point of Provo. The steep coral walls provide sanctuary for an incredible spectrum of wildlife, including extremely social reef sharks and lobsters! The visibility was absolutely exceptional.
If you're debating whether or not take a trip to TCI - just go! You'll love it. But jeez, bring plenty of money - it's one of the most expensive places i've been in the caribbean.

If you want to rent a jeep and drive around North Caicos:
We stayed at the Queen Angel Condominium, in a really nice (and affordable) studio AirBnB, directly behind Turtle Cove Marina. A perfect location for getting just about anywhere on the island. Definitely rent a car so you can get the most out of your time on the island!

Providenciales - Scuba Diving with Dive Provo
After gaining our PADI Open Water certificates in January at St. Kitts, We took a trip to Providenciales, Turks & Caicos Islands and Seokyeong and I dived with Dive Provo.
This video was taken by both of us during 2 dives off the reef which protects the wonderful Grace Bay Beach.
The video includes footage of a Turtle feeding off the coral and a swim past by a Reef Shark.
The camera used was a Canon G15 Powershot inside the matching Canon WP-DC48 underwater housing.
The video is accompanied with background piano music played by Seokyeong Yee on the Yamaha EL90 Electone Organ. March 2014
Turks and Caicos Beaches Scuba Diving for Families
The Diving is spectacular at Grace Bay and Northwest point on the island of Providenciales in Turks and Caicos. Visibility is at least 30m, with a balmy 29 degrees celsius water temperature. We all wore skin suits or shorties and were very comfortable. The reef is still in good condition, with plenty of tube sponges, gorgonian fans, brain corals and branching corals. A healthy reef brings vibrant marine life and we were lucky to see Grey Reef and Nurse sharks, Green Turtles, Rays, Porcupine and trunk fish, Spiny lobsters, Surgeon and Parrotfish. The Beaches resort had a great family friendly dive team. #Scuba4Families

Beach Snorkeling/Diving Turks and Caicos (Smith Reef)
We enjoy snorkeling/free-diving off the beach. So we went to Turks an Caicos Island. Here is the video at Smith Reef. I found that the best time for snorkeling was before 9:00am before none disturbed the peace. I saw everything between 7:00am and 09:00am.
I saw many spotted eagle rays, trunk fish, puffer fish, parrot fish, barracuda, turtle, lion fish, and lobster.
Snorkeling in Turks and Caicos
This was our first time snorkeling but we saw some incredible sea life! If anyone has any idea what the fish was that we think was a sunfish let me know!
To skip to some highlights...
watch the first minute or so for my stingray encounter
- skip to 3:34 for my rare sunfish (we think?) sighting
- head to 9:54 for Henrique and Tunc's stingray encounter
- go to 10:55 for my sea turtle encounter

Smith's Reef and Beach: Eagle Rays and Turtles (Providenciales Island - Turks & Caicos)
Smith's Reef aka Turtle Cove is the best among the reefs accessible from the shore. It is quite big compared to Bight's reef (see my other video), with more sections, deeper, with more current and therefore visited by Eagle Rays. In fact I dived there 3 times never missing these elegant creatures! Of course, plenty of turtles too (as the name suggests). Video taken in August 2018 (GoPro Hero 4).

Turks and Caicos Scuba Diving
Scuba Diving with Dive Provo diveprovo.com in Providenciales (Provo) Turks and Caicos Islands. I was very happy with the service and professionalism shown by Dive Provo. As experienced divers you can plan and execute your own dive rater then fallow a group of divers or leader. For most of our dives my Wife and 12 year old son did that that. It took about an hour to get to the dive sites that are all wall dives. Two dives with an hour surface interval and an hour back to port makes for a long day but it is worth it. Dive Provo takes their time and gets you to the best sites around.
We did two dives a day for 5 days and the footage shown here is a just a sample of what you can see. Water conditions are perfect. Temperature at 60 feet was 85 degrees. a 3 mil wetsuit is perfect in my opinion however many use none. The ocean is calm and on some days the water surface was like glass. Perfect for those who get sea sick easily. Near the wall there is always a small current but the visibility underwater is easily 75 feet plus.
All video was shot using a Canon Vixia HD video camera with a wide angle lens adapter and underwater filter in natural light.
