Snorkeling in Barbados (St. James Province)
A day trip on Good Times. Thanksgiving 2015.
Barbados - Folkstone Marine Park, Holetown Boardwalk & Paynes Bay
Day 4 - Wed - Jan 30, 2019
We took the bus to St. James Parish Church which is next to Folkstone Marine Park. We stayed the majority of the day here snorkeling around and rented chairs from a local for $40 or $50 BBD total. The beach here is calm and a very large portion of the sea is roped off from boaters to protect the reef and people. We saw monkeys (finally!), a small amount of living coral and a ton of fish. This is a popular spot for cruise tours so we got to meet some people. There was a beach bar and grill, restrooms and a lifeguard. A pretty sweet setup! The family next to us was with a church group from Minnesota and they were a ton of fun. I probably drank too much but it helped me be brave for snorkeling in deeper waters (something Pat's been dying for me to do).
About 1.5/2 hours before sunset we headed south along the coast. I wanted to make it to Batts Rock but got tired after about 3.5 miles, which happened to be happy hour at Il Tempio Italian Restaurant AND happened to be right on the beach! Some places of note along the way were: the Holetown Boardwalk, Sandy Lane Beach (which is blocked off by a resort so we didn't bother), Paynes Bay, and The Cliff Restaurant. We grabbed the bus back to Rockley and ate at Tapas.

Fitts Village, Barbados snorkeling
Greetings to all locals of Fitts Village !
Sunny Barbados / Blue-Waters
The charming Blue Waters Beach side Cottage is a lovely beachfront cottage at Fitts Village, St James. Offering one bedroom air conditioned, ensuite bathroom, open plan lounge and dining area, patio and outdoor dining. Direct access to a sandy beach. Ideal for those who love to dive, snorkel an enjoy watersports. The property is in a residential area with shops and restaurants within easy walking distance. This district on the west coast of Barbados is ideal for a relaxing Caribbean vacation. It was its placement at the edge of a tranquil and clear blue ocean that would see the Fitts district become a predominantly fishing village. Fishing still goes on there to this day, extending toward its neighbouring Paynes Bay Fishing Market. The area contains several reefs and with clear blue waters its good for snorkelling. Occasionally you may even spot a turtle surface.
Blue Waters is ideal for the person or couple who are budget conscious but also want the luxury of being on the beach without the expense.

Barbados Snorkel 2019
Barbados - Exploring The Wrecks and Turtles of Carlisle Bay:
Carlisle Bay is located South of the capital Bridgetown with a long strip of soft white sand beaches to give you the ultimate paradise feeling.
Close to shore, less then 200 meters from the beach, there are six shipwrecks laying in the sand for you to explore. From the most shallow wreck to the deepest: Barge, Cornwallis, Berwyn, Bajan Queen, C-Trek and Eilon. The wrecks lay at a depth between 3 and 17 meters, depending on the tide. The biggest wreck is the Bajan Queen, over 36 meters long. Because the wrecks are laying really shallow and close to each other it is a nice snorkel adventure.
Marine life is using the wrecks as a solid ground for creating a coral reef. Many fish species and critters can be found on and around the wrecks. Sergeant major fish and others damsels are dancing around the wrecks and you might even find a camouflaged Scorpionfish on one of them. Around the wrecks there are many concrete blocks and anchors laying in the sand with often some marine life hiding underneath. Check the buoy and anchor lines as well, juvenile (baby) fish and reef squids are often right underneath.
Barbados is also known for its impressive number of sea turtles and they are pretty easy to spot on the white sand in the shallow areas. You can spot many Green sea turtles and Hawksbill turtles in Carlisle bay, we mostly saw Green sea turtles. They can weigh up to 200 pounds (about 90 kg).

Atlantis Submarine Voyage in Barbados-II
During our vacation we went underwater in a submarine. Atlantis submarine tour is one of the most highly recommended attractions in Barbados. Emerged in a real submarine, with big view ports all around, fully submerged in the aquamarine Caribbean Sea, as curious exotic fish peek in at you and sea fans sway. The tour lasts 90 minutes from departure to return as you spend 40 - 45 mins. underwater. This fully narrated “must-do” undersea voyage, can take you to a shipwreck and to depths of 150 feet, in air conditioned comfort, which in the past has been reserved only for scuba divers. Colorful coral formations, and tropical marine life, aboard the unique Atlantis Submarine.

The west coast bathed by the Caribbean Sea as an uninterrupted series of beaches of fine white sand. Palm and coconut trees lining the coastline, gently sloping , well known for its calm clear waters . Paynes Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches. Its success depends on its activities including scuba diving. Barbados offers sheer coral reefs , sponges and colorful gorgonians. Its funds even house some wrecks. Among them is a cargo of more than one hundred meters. In Holetown where the first settlers arrived , you can enjoy water sports. The northern city has a museum of the sea called Fokelstone Underwater Park. It organizes underwater explorations of the reef . Take a picnic on Mullins beach . Nearby is St James Church , the oldest church on the island , built in 1660. See also the Portvale candy and Sugar Museum Sir Frank Huston . The historic town of Speightstown offers beautiful white sand beaches and has the best conditions for swimming. The Caribbean coast , surrounded by villas and luxurious hotels, has two golf courses : Westmoreland, and especially Sandy Lane, the most beautiful course in the archipelago.
