SCUBA DIVING BELIZE | Ambergris Caye and Placencia | travel vlog 2019
SCUBA diving in Belize in a highlight of both the Caribbean and tourism in Central America. While the jungles attract a lot of tourists, Belize is also home to the second largest barrier reef in the world. It has so many incredible experiences for those who love to dive or snorkel. For this SCUBA diving adventure travel vlog I teamed up with PADI, a world famous diver training organization, and William Drumm, a talented underwater photographer.
We started the trip by taking a small plane from Belize City to San Pedro in Ambergris Caye. Here, we met up with Ramon's Village Resort and dove Hol Chan Marine Park, as well as many of the beautiful coral channels that snake through the reef. Highlights here for us were Nurse Sharks, Loggerhead Sea Turtles, and even an Octopus
Unfortunately our dive to The Great Blue Hole was cancelled due to weather, but ended up seeing a Bottlenose dolphin underwater close to the reef. Not a bad replacement.
Next was taking another plane from San Pedro to Placencia to meet Patricia at SPLASH dive centre to dive at Silk Caye. We island hopped, saw the underwater goddess statue, and trekked through Cockscomb Basin.
Hope you Enjoyed this SCUBA diving travel vlog in Belize!

Snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef of Belize
Snorkeling Belize's Great Barrier Reef is the thrill of a lifetime. Flying from Miami to the Central American Country only takes two hours. Then it's another twenty minute flight from the Belize City airport to Ambergris Caye and San Pedro Town, home of many great people, resorts, restaurants, bars and snorkeling and diving guides.
This video was created by Larry Richardson for Xeniors.com. Visit the site to read the accompanying travel article.
The underwater and on-board video was shot using a Panasonic DMC-TS4 camera. Other surface video was shot using aSony DSC-HX9V, a Sony DSC-TX200V underwater camera and an Apple iPod Touch 5. The video was edited on an Apple Powerbook using Final Cut Pro X software. Belizian Funk was composed on GarageBand.
Thank you to the wonderful people of Belize for giving us a fantastic vacation! We'll be back!
(A produced screenwriter, I wrote a Bogart-esque screenplay based on the atmosphere in San Pedro called Rick Bogard: All that Glitters. I will gladly send the script to experienced producers.)

A SNORKELING AND DIVING PARADISE!!! | AMBERGRIS CAYE, BELIZE | Adventure NINE
Welcome to the Island side of Belize!
This week we take you to Ambergris Caye, Belize’s largest island. The islands of Belize have a completely different vibe from the mainland. This place is a snorkeling and diving paradise! The reef is the second largest reef system in the world and the water is so calm and clear that you could explore for hours!
In this adventure film, we visit the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark and Sting Ray Alley. All of our ABCs, except for baby “B,” snorkeled the reserve and we all swam with the sharks! What a character building experience for the kids!
We also take you through the bustling town of San Pedro and go off-roading on a long, bumpy dirt rode….ON A GOLF CART….. to a Secret Beach on the north side of the island. No stay in Belize is complete without a little taste of the islands. Here are some links and adventure tips on how we did it with kids in tow.
Transportation:
There are two main ways to get to the island of Ambergris Caye from Belize City - plane or boat. We took the Belize water taxi. It is the most economical option and is a pleasant hour and a half boat ride from the mainland.
Golf Cart
The main mode of transportation on the island is a golf cart! The streets are narrow so it is easier to maneuver and they are super fun to ride around in. It helps add to the travel experience! There are a plethora of rental options in the town of San Pedro. We used Mr. Rental (Telephone: 226-4411/ 607-8186).
Accommodations:
With such a large family, it is often difficult to find accommodations that will fit all six of us without having to book two rooms. We use Airbnb often for this reason. It has a great search option that allows you to filter the accommodations by party size. With a full kitchen and more bedrooms, it helps us feel like we are actually “living” in the destination we are adventuring in.
Snorkeling: (
Most of our kids were newbie snorkelers, so patient, kid friendly instruction was critical. We couldn’t travel to Belize and not snorkel so we were going to make it work! We hit the JACKPOT with Lil' Alphonse Tours. We weren’t on a luxurious yacht, but how well they worked with our children was incredible! We all learned how to properly snorkel and the tour they gave us around the reef and the interaction with the marine life was top notch. Highly recommend!
The Secret Beach : We were on the fence on going here because we heard mixed reviews, but the ride there in itself was one of our kids’ favorite parts of the trip! It is an unpaved, BUMPY dirt rode that was exhilarating to ride on! It was a blast dodging holes and going over the bumps in the golf cart. We all laughed until our bellies hurt! The beach itself has a great vibe. Soft sand, clear water, and a little beach restaurant is all you need!
Best Belize Blog: ( If you want to go to Belize, definitely check out this blog. It was an incredible resource to us when planning this trip. It is well-organized, clear, and extremely helpful.
*Traveling ABCs Adventure Tips*
- Ambergris Caye Beaches: You are not going to get the most “perfect” beach from the shore of Ambergris Caye. The waves are practically non-existent so the water can appear stagnant in certain areas. There is also turtle grass along a lot of the shore which can feel a bit slimy under your feet. Closer to the town of San Pedro, most areas are protected with a sea wall so the only access to enter the water is from a dock. Our kids loved it though. It was a “different” type of place to explore with different elements that peaked their curiosity. And the amazing marine life that is plentiful not far off the coast easily makes up for a little less than perfect beach scene.
-San Pedro Town. What a fun little, town with lots of great restaurants with spectacular views along the water. The streets are narrow so it can feel a bit busy, and congested at certain times. We walked through the town the first night and, with kids, it was a bit stressful. Once we got the golf cart, it made it a lot more fun. And when we did decide to walk, we realized that walking along the beach was a safer option for the kids which made it more enjoyable for all of us.
-Accommodations: There are some gorgeous resorts on the island. The more north you are, you will find a more quiet, relaxing resort experience. The island is not very large so renting a golf cart and taking it into town is still very doable.

Lil Alphonse Snorkeling Tour, San Pedro Belize
Lil Alphonse Snorkeling Tours San Pedro Belize Review. Lil Alphonse (Lil Afonse) is one of the most recommended tour guides and dive masters in San Pedro, Belize (Ambergris Caye). He is offering snorkeling tours to Hol Chan Marine Reserve (including Shark Ray Alley) and Mexico Rocks, and fishing trips for deep sea fishing in the Caribbean Sea.
The section of the Belize Barrier Reef which is named Hol Chan Marine Reserve is a famous snorkeling destination in the world because of the clear water and beautiful marine ecosystem.
Shark Ray Alley is itself a diving spot in the Hol Chan Marine Reserve, famous for a large number of nurse sharks and stingrays who come here. In the past, the local fishermen came here to clean their boats and the sharks noticed the free food (fish scraps). Nowadays, the dive masters actively feed the sharks which come around as soon as they hear the boats.
