Scuba Diving Port Douglas - Great Barrier Reef
Jackie & Dave graced us with their presence for a day of guided diving out at Agincourt Reef and we couldn't have asked for a better day. The reef at the moment is showing a great deal of recovery from the recent bleaching events and this quite often means a greater diversity of marine life can be seen.
Over the 3 dives we saw sharks, huge flowery cod, nudibranchs plus much more!
If you are interested in seeing some of the the finest coral reefs - even if you're not certified, then just let us know and we would be happy to organise a dive trip or course for you to visit this wonder of the natural world!

SCUBA diving the Great Barrier Reef (From Port Douglas)
I am a very fortunate person to be able to go SCUBA diving on the Great Barrier Reef more than once. This was my second trip out to the reef - this time I left from Port Douglas and completed 3 dives on the Agincourt Ribbon Reef system. The Agincourt Ribbon Reef system is an “outer reef,” so it was expected that we could potentially see larger species of fish and I was glad that I got to see a shark for the first time (while not in a cage) and a morray eel. I hope you've enjoyed this video, below is a little more information about my 3 dives here.
Dive Site information:
Just Magic (Agincourt Ribbon Reef):
Bottom Time: 44 minutes
Max Depth: 16.4 meters (54 feet)
Barracuda Bommie (Agincourt Ribbon Reef):
Bottom Time: 47 minutes
Max Depth: 18.5 meters (61 feet)
New Stonehenge (Agincourt Ribbon Reef):
Bottom Time: 45 minutes
Max Depth: 14.8 meters (49 feet)

Scuba Diving @ The Great Barrier Reef - April 2015
Video footage from my incredible scuba diving trip to the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Cairns, Australia. The video doesn't do the incredible experience complete justice.
Out of the nine dives we did, I took a camera down on only four of the dives. There were so many beautiful vistas and interesting creatures that I would have never imagined.
Thanks to all of the shipmates, dive instructors, and new friends that made the trip not only amazing, but truly memorable.

Great Barrier Reef on a BUDGET
The Great Barrier Reef is an expensive place to visit, and many operators will not take you to the beautiful parts of the reef, some even visit dead areas. This is my guide to visiting the best parts of the Great Barrier Reef on a budget!
The video is broken down by skill level, time and money and I hope this helps you plan your trip to the GBR, or travel though Cairns, Australia!
Falla Reef Cruises was the first trip I recommended, catered to beginner snorkellers and first time divers. Its a great day on an old wooden sailing boat, and visits some okay parts of the reef! It's also extremely affordable! The cheapest i've seen from any of the boats out of Cairns.
Cairns Dive Centre is a more commercial trip than Falla, but it specialises in first time diving, and basically guarantees scuba diving with nemo. The reef is decent, and for first time divers and snorkellers it will impress you! Its a great day! The boat also visits a secluded sand island on the way home!
If you have been snorkelling or diving before, or you're after some of the best reefs and marine life that Australia has to offer, you will want to visit Miln Reef. Coral Sea Dreaming is my favourite operator out of cairns and offers one of the most interactive and incredible expeditions to this beautiful part of the world. The Reef quality here will blow your mind, no matter your experience level!
Passions of Paradise also offer a day trip here, while the sites are the same/ similar, you will miss out on the morning, afternoon and night dive - and you as it is a more commercial operator you will not get the 'expedition feel' that Coral Sea Dreaming provides. BUT: The diving and snorkelling is incredible!
If you do have your Advanced Open Water Certification or higher and you have a week to spare, definitely volunteer on Mike Ball Dive Expeditions! This is where David Attenborough would go. Its also where most of the GBR documentaries are filmed. This is a week long trip and it's entirely FREE if you volunteer. I can't recommend this option enough.
Anyways hope you enjoyed!

This week our documentary turns to one of earth's greatest treasures, the coral reef off the Australian coast. Sitting on valuable oil reserves it's become the target of the oil industry which is desperate for new drilling sites.
A rippling layer of bright yellow tentacles with a hot pink underbelly; a cluster of tiny white star-shaped flowers popping out sharply then snapping shut again; a rainbow assortment of fish and curious sea creatures, darting from one ingenious hiding Place to another. The Great Barrier Reef -- part-animal, part-plant -- a living, breathing underwater work of art. Should the importance of environmental conservation ever be questioned, the vision of the reef silences all argument.
Yet even this closely protected Marine Park -- one of the undoubted wonders of the world - is now seen to be under threat. Many believe that over the last 30 years pollution has caused the spectacular coral, and the life it supports, to slowly die. Freelance journalist, Susan Brown grew up around the park. She says: I used to go snorkelling, I used to look at the creatures and just wonder at it, the life there, the different species there. I go back there now as an adult -- they're coated in algae. The inner reef's gone.
Images of choked, decaying coral in the waters off Jamaica and the Seychelles warn of the fate of the Reef should the park's laws fail to be upheld. Until now, the Australian government has appeared to closely guard its greatest tourist attraction. Yet evidence suggests that not only is the reef now threatened by an increase in sedimentation, global warming and shipping accidents, it is also under threat from the very government that pledged to safeguard it. Over the past seventeen years, at least five separate exploration teams have been allowed into the marine park to collect data on the presence of oil. Three even conducted drilling for rock samples. Much of the work has been funded by the Australian government. So is the world's greatest natural attraction about to be sold to the highest bidder?
Susan Brown has obtained boxes of government documents relating to testing for oil in and around the Great Barrier Reef. The documents show co-operation between the government and oil companies; extensive oil company interest in any oil deposits; and great enthusiasm when indicators of oil have been found. How does David Kemp, Australian Minister for the Environment respond? I don't believe that any government department would've provided information to oil companies with the thought that oil drilling on the Reef might be permitted. Susan Brown sees things differently: privately they're saying 'you can go in there with a great big tax-payer funded seismic ship and build up a database of information that the oil industry would need should they ever...exploit the resources. Meanwhile, the scientific exploration goes on.
This film is a beautifully shot visual feast filled with ravishing Images of Australia and its number one asset, the Reef. However, it is also a timely warning against complacency in our efforts to preserve the many great natural wonders of the world.

Great Barrier Reef Submarines - The newest way to see the reef! Check it out!
Great Barrier Reef Submarines operate the only fully submersible submarine dive experience offered in Australia. Launching from the main beach on Fitzroy Island, your pilot will take you on an amazing dive experience, submerging down to a maximum of 12 metres under the surface to explore the Great Barrier Reef and experience some close up encounters with the surrounding marine life. You can expect a very personal experience, with the submarines carrying a maximum of 2 customers alongside the pilot. With no previous dive experience required and no need to be a strong swimmer, all you have to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the view. You do not need to wear a mask or breathing equipment inside the submarine, Unlike any other diving experience, this allows you to talk throughout the dive and share your experience with others. The pilot will also provide an expert commentary with some amusing facts about the marine life and the environment. Clown Fish (Nemo), Lion Fish, Sting Ray and Turtles are among the many thing you can expect to see. For more information see: gbrsubs.com.au
