Scuba Diving - USS New York Wreck, Subic Bay, Philippines
The USS New York was the sister ship of the more famous USS Maine. She was commissioned in 1893 and served in the Spanish-American War. She was renamed the USS Saratoga in 1911 and renamed yet again, this time as the USS Rochester, in 1917.
After serving in World War I, the USS Rochester was deployed throughout Central and South America and Asia. She was decommissioned in 1933 and sent to the Olongapo Shipyard in Subic Bay. She was scuttled by departing American forces on December 24, 1941 to prevent the Japanese from capturing her and her 8-inch guns.
Wreck Diving - El Capitan in Subic Bay, Philippines
Penetrating the wreck of El Capitan, a US Navy transport ship that participated in WWII and was sunk in a storm in 1946.
This was part of my tec wreck and tec sidemount training with Andy Davis. The environment was very silty, but that's what makes Subic Bay a great place for training: if you learn to safely penetrate a wreck here, you can feel safe pretty much anywhere.
