I was scuba diving @ Cape Verde for the first time and was surprised how much fish is around the island Sal. This video is the first part of a small series and shows some of the amazing dive spots and the animals who live there.

Scuba Dive Cape Verde - Sal

All the diving starts at the pier which is a hub for the locals and there daily fishing life's. The fisherman bring there catch in from out at sea and display it, im told the big hotels come and buy the big tunas.
On the 1st dive we went to the 3 caves, there was some really strong surface current, so much so that one bloke lost a fin on the way down and had to complete his dive with one fin. He mostly hoped along lol, there was some current down there too. The vis was about 10m but was fairly murky with the sediment/particles.
There was plenty of fish hanging around the entrances (only small caves going back no more than 5-10m), they made great silhouettes when you looked from the back.

Second dive was the S.Antao wreck. This was a haven for porcupine fish, big and small. Again there was plenty of fish life and eels, moray and some white smaller eels. We also encountered 2 rays under part of the broken wreck. Vis was 10m again and there was a slight swell in the water which was fun cos we were rocking back and forth with the fish.

Third dive the next day was on a deeper wreck called The Kwarcit. This was another fun dive plenty of fish life again and eels.

The last dive of our holiday was a cracking shallow wreck/reef dive. The wreck is called Caldaia and we swam over to a reef called Faroll and back again.
The Caldaia only has its big boiler left intact the rest is scattered around making a home for all the marine life. There was a nice gentle current and the vis was great 10-15m.
The fish school around the boiler. We encountered many eels, there was plenty of nudis. I came across a small exotic looking crab with long legs which was eating. There was also stone fish dotted all over, really well camouflaged against the rocky sea bed.

Cape Verde | Highlights of the island Sal (Advertisement)

After 3 days on Boa Vista it was time for us to hop over to Sal. And when I say hop over I'm not exaggerating, as that flight only takes 10 minutes ;) Literally the shortest flight we've ever been on. Sal's highlights include the saline at Pedra de Lume and of course the famous pier in the fishing village of Santa Maria.
