Basilica of Bom Jesus, Goa | UNESCO World Heritage Site | Indian Church Tours | Eternal Grace
The Bom Jesus Basilica, perhaps Goa's most famous church and among the most revered by Christians worldwide, is partially in ruins but still a model of simplicity and elegance, and a fine example of Jesuit architecture.
This is the only church in Old Goa, which is not plastered on the outside, the lime plaster having been stripped off by a zealous Portuguese conservationist in 1950.
Located at Old Goa, 10 kilometres east of Panaji, the Bom Jesus Basilica is a World Heritage Monument.

Se Cathedral in Goa India, Church Interior.
There are a number of churches in Goa built by the Portuguese. Many magnificent churches were built by them in Old Goa which is well known for its churches. The Old Goa churches remind of its former glory that once rivaled that of Rome. It was known to the world as 'Golden Goa' or 'Pearl of the Orient' in 16th and 17th centuries in its glory days.
The Portuguese Viceroy Redondo commissioned the Se, or St. Catherine's' Cathedral, southwest of St. Cajetan's, to be a grandiose church worthy of the wealth, power and fame of the Portuguese who dominated the seas from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Today it stands larger than any church in Portugal, although it was beset by problems, not least a lack of funds and Portugal's temporary loss of independence to Spain. It took eighty years to build and was not consecrated until 1640.

SE CATHEDRAL ASI PROPERTY?
Baptist Fernandes, a social activist from Old Goa, has taken objection to the granite name plaque put up by the Archaeological Survey of India, which suggests that the Se Cathedral de Santa Catherine, is the property of the ASI.
