M42 Duster tank, Aqaba
The American manufactured M42 Duster was an anti-aircraft armored vehicle used by the Jordanian Army in the 1960's. This tank was placed here in 1999 to make a diving and snorkeling attraction. The tank lies only 6 m under water and about 20 m off shore right outside one of the public beaches near Tala Bay, and is one of the most well known dive spots in Aqaba.
SCUBA Diving Sea Tiger Wreck/Nautilus Reef - Honolulu, Hawaii
Diving Sea Tiger Wreck and Nautilus Reef with 100' visibility, off the island of O'ahu in Honolulu, HI. Dive led by Waikiki Dive Center, PADI 5 Star dive shop.
SEA TIGER
The Sea Tiger is located about a quarter-mile south of Kewalo Basin. Max depth is 130 feet but usually limited to about 100 feet. In 1992 ninety three Illegal Chinese immigrants were discovered aboard this 168-foot ship, which was known as Yun Fong Seong No. 303. Its 5-crew members were sent to prison and the boat was seized. In 1994 it was sold to a Vietnamese fisherman who renamed it the Sea Tiger. After the coast guard repeatedly fined the fisherman, he abandoned it in Honolulu Harbor. Voyager Submarines bought the Sea Tiger for $1 and sank it in 1999. It is our deepest recreational wreck on Oahu. However, it is very close to shore and is usually in very calm water making this a great dive year around. This is Captain Nick’s Favorite wreck!
NAUTILUS REEF
This a large reef dive located right outside Kewalo Basin Harbor with a maximum depth of 40 feet. Nautilus Reef is enjoyable for beginners and experienced divers, as there are usually many octopus and large eels to see here. This is also one of the only places where large schools of Mu can be found.

Climate Change Resilient Corals of the Gulf of Aqaba - Eilat / Israel
Maoz Fine:
It might take fifty or more years before solutions to climate change will be found, primarily with cleaner energy and lower greenhouse gas emissions.
Corals in the Gulf of Aqaba are pre-selected for thermal tolerance due to the special geographical setting of the Red Sea, and due to the recent history of coral reefs in this sea, since the last glacial maximum.
This makes the Gulf of Aqaba a unique place which serves a coral reef refuge, in a rapidly warming and acidifying ocean.
Jessica Bellworthy:
While many reefs of the world are already in a bad state and declining in coral cover, reefs of the Gulf of Aqaba show resilience and even improved performance.
This has been experimentally tested by exposing corals to temperature stress and assessing their physiology. The results show that a range of species here are indeed thermally tolerant.
Given their relatively high resilience to global stress, reefs of the Gulf of Aqaba may be one of the last reefs standing.
Maoz Fine:
Better understanding why this is so presents us with a major research challenge. But first of all, it emphasizes the strong need for immediate protection of these reefs from local stress factors, such as sewage, oil pollution, herbicides from gardening, nutrients from fish farms, and even light pollution.
We call for a coordinated regional effort, to maintain these reefs as pristine as possible.

Taba is a small Egyptian town near the northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba. Taba is the location of Egypt's busiest border crossing with neighboring Eilat, Israel. Taba is a frequent vacation spot for Egyptians and tourists, especially those from Israel on their way to other destinations in Egypt or as a weekend getaway. It is the northernmost resort of Egypt's Red Sea Riviera.
The Taba Crisis of 1906 started when Sultan Abdul Hamid II of the Ottoman Empire decided to build a post at Taba. The British sent an Egyptian Coast Guard steamer to re-occupy Naqb el Aqaba and Taba. When encountered by a Turkish officer who refused them permission to land, the Egyptian force landed on the nearby Pharaoh's Island instead. The British Navy sent warships into the eastern Mediterranean and threatened to seize certain islands under the Ottoman Empire. The Sultan agreed to evacuate Taba and on 13 May 1906. Both Britain and Ottoman Empire agreed to demarcate a formal border that would run approximately straight from Rafah in a south-easterly direction to a point on the Gulf of Aqaba not less than 3 miles from Aqaba.
Taba was located on the Egyptian side of the armistice line agreed to in 1949. During the Suez Crisis in 1956 it was briefly occupied but returned to Egypt when Israel withdrew in 1957. Israel reoccupied the Sinai Peninsula after the Six-Day War in 1967, and subsequently, a 400-room hotel was built in Taba. Following the 1973 Yom Kippur War, when Egypt and Israel were negotiating the exact position of the border, Israel claimed that Taba had been on the Ottoman side of a border agreed between the Ottomans and British Egypt in 1906 and had, therefore, been in error in its two previous agreements. Although most of Sinai was returned to Egypt in 1982 following the 1979 peace treaty Taba was the last portion to be returned. After a long dispute, the issue was submitted to an international commission composed of one Israeli, one Egyptian, and three outsiders. In 1988, the commission ruled in Egypt's favor, and Israel returned Taba to Egypt in February 1989.
As part of this subsequent agreement, travelers are permitted to cross from Israel at the Eilat–Taba border crossing, and visit the Aqaba Coast Area of Sinai, (stretching from Taba down to Sharm el Sheikh, and including Nuweiba, Saint Catherine's Monastery and Dahab), visa-free for up to 14 days, making Taba a popular tourist destination. The resort community of Taba Heights is located some 20 km (12 mi) south of Taba. It features several large hotels, including The Hyatt Regency, Marriott, Sofitel and Intercontinental. It is also a significant diving area where many people come to either free dive, scuba dive or learn to dive. Other recreation facilities include a new desert-style golf course. We enjoyed the beautiful beaches and its majestic surroundings. It was a great peaceful time that did not last for long..
Egypt is a beautiful country that has attracted tourists for thousands of years. It is famous for its ancient sights, its River Nile cruises and its Red Sea resorts. Unfortunately, it has also become synonymous in recent years with political turmoil and increased terrorist activity. The number of people choosing to visit Egypt on vacation fell to an all-time low in 2015, when photos emerged of iconic sights like the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx lying deserted. However, travel agents reported a significant increase in bookings in the spring of 2018, suggesting that the Egyptian tourism industry may be on the road to recovery.
