SkyeFlight - The First Video!
See what it's like to take your very own SkyeFlight with the team at the Skye Flying Club.
Flying is the best way to see the Isle of Skye. We'll fly you from our home airfield of Broadford just 6 minutes drive from the Skye Bridge. In this clip, Andrew, a local Doctor was surprised with a SkyeFlight on the launch day in June 2018 and absolutely loved it. His Flight took in the Isle of Pabay just to the north of Broadford and then turned south over the Sleat Peninsular and from that point on the Island you can see the world famous Cuillins and the mainland.

Sea Kayaking Cornwall 2013 - Porthtowan - St Agnes.
This trip is most definitely in my top 10 trips, and will probably always remain there!!! This trip, and the next trip, represent the very best of the UK weather, it simply does not get better. We are on the North Cornish coast, famous for surfing, and it was flat as a Witch's Tit. We were VERY lucky to secure a parking spot, at Porthtowan, be very careful here, the Nazi Wardens have rich pickings here, and the parking is in zones, so even though there are NO lines, there is NO parking, and tickets are handed out like confetti. Deliberate entrapment? You bet. Anyway enough of that, we launched on the beach, where the previous week, there had been a surf contest, ha ha, not today, a flat sea, enables us access to all the caves, and gullies normally out of bounds. By the time we rounded St Agnes Head, the sea conditions, and weather were just the ultimate, and the atmosphere at St Agnes, was beguiling. Children's laughter, people's voices, dogs, all manner of sounds normally inaudible, found us, due to the sheer peace and quiet. It really was special, happy smiling faces, enjoyed beach barbeques, lilos, and sit on kayaks, kids, safely swimming, and people snorkelling, it could have been anywhere in the Med on a summer's day, but just for once, it was good old Blighty, pinch me I'm dreaming. The caves and coves are to numerous to recount here, all the best ones are included, but some had to be omitted. The one were I land, and find the footprints on, was paddled right through on the return journey, as the tide level rose, you can see Matt emerge from it, with his torch on. We landed back at Porthtowan at 10.40pm, and just made the bar for a pint. We moved on, that night to Portreath, for the next day, which was even BETTER than this.

A Sea Kayaking trip around Jura, Inner Hebrides, Scotland. May 2018
A fantastic trip from Carsaig bay crossing at Tarbert, out Loch Tarbert into the Atlantic Ocean and paddling up the West coast of Jura. Through the Gulf of Corryvreckan back down the East coast and over to Carsaig Bay. A three day trip. Three kayak trolleys started, two of those are now in need of some TLC. kayaking around Jura allowed us to access bays not accessible from the land due to the large cliffs.
The caterpillar is identified as a Six spot burnet moth.
The soundtrack is from the fantastic Skerryvore and Skipinnish.
Sea Kayaking Skye 2016 - Fladaigh Chuain
Well here it is, the final paddle of our fantastic Skye trip. Every year we hope and pray for a 'Big one' a trip like this, to a fantastic area to coincide with a decent spell of weather. In 2016 we really hit the jackpot with conditions just about as good as is possible in the UK. This trip will ALWAYS be one of the best, because of the fabulous Skye scenery, combined with THAT weather, it will be almost impossible to beat it. The Cornwall trip of 2013 is most certainly equal to it weather wise, it's all about the differing locations, so it's a choice between the clear turquoise waters of Cornwall, or the clear green of Skye? Or the spectacular coastline of Boscastle, Gwennap Head, Ralph's Cupboard, and Porthcurno, versus Macloed's Maidens, The Cuillins, Dunvegan Head, Spar Cave, and Neist Point? I can't decide, I think we need to do it ALL again, and see if we can decide next time?

Sea Kayaking Cornwall 2013 - Mullion to the Lizard.
Well here it is, the last paddle, of the best trip we've EVER done. The idea was, to do this trip last, as it would shorten the long journey home. As it happens, that bit is negligible, saving 7 miles off a 357 mile journey, ha ha. So, off we go Mullion, is on the western side off the Lizard peninsula, and usually gets a bit of Atlantic swell coming through, nothing of the scale of the North coast, but can get lively. I attempted this trip twice in '09, on the 3rd attempt, it was grey and miserable, so I headed off to Portreath, and discovered the awesome North Cornish coast for the first time in a kayak. So, I had a score to settle here, and strangely the wind got up at Predannack Head, the exact point where I turned back the 2 previous times. The wind did get up a little during the afternoon, nothing to worry about, but a bit of a slog into it, until Kynance cove. The coast in between is really lovely, not as dramatic as the North coast, but really interesting, the bit between Predannack Head, and Vellan Head is excellent, with Pigeon Ogo perhaps the highlight. Kynance Cove needs no introduction from me, it is superb, and is MUCH better to visit by Kayak, in '09 they wanted £6 to drive down the access road in a van!!!! Kynance is best at mid to low water, the strand where we landed, being flooded otherwise. Matt had his usual afternoon blackout, so I pressed on to Lizard Point alone, I wasn't going to miss THAT in these conditions. I met back up with Matt at Kynance, and found excellent examples of Serpentine Rocks, amazing stuff. The trip back was just a dream, and a fitting end to our best ever trip, so much so, that I decided to quit whilst ahead, Matt had to return, but I could have easily done another day, at least. So there we have it, 11 truly amazing days, everyone an epic, in it's own way, I very much doubt we'll ever manage a trip like this again, the bar has been set impossibly high, it's not just the weather, it is the swell conditions on the North coast also, to get the combination of flat calm, and fabulous weather over a sustained spell was really something special.
Island on the Edge, A life on Soay, by Anne Cholawo. (Part 1)
These scenes were filmed on Soay and in the waters around the island.
Music by Opaque Nature.
Island on the Edge, A life on Soay is a book written by Anne Cholawo.
This is the story of Anne Cholawo in her own words, a typical 80's career girl working in a busy London advertising agency, when in 1989, on holiday in Skye, she noticed an advert in an estate agent's window for a property on the nearby island of Soay. Within ten minutes of landing there she had fallen under it's spell and after a few months she moved to Soay to live.
When she arrived on the remote west coast island there were 17 inhabitants. Today there are only three. This book describes Anne's extraordinary transition from a hectic urban lifestyle to one of rural isolation and self-sufficiency, without mains electricity, medical services, shops or any other modern amenities. As well as telling her own story, she introduces some of the colourful characters she has encountered there and describes the history and extraordinary beauty of Soay.

Sea Kayak - Glenfinnan to Isle of Muck
A late August 215 paddle starting at the Glenfinnan Memorial at the top of Loch Shiel and ending on the Isle of Muck. Our route took us the length of Loch Shiel on which we had interesting 40mph gust’s blowing from behind, a quick visit to St Finnans Chapel on Eilean Fhianain and our first night on the shore of the loch. The following day we followed the river Shiel (very scenic and a favoured fishing spot) ending at the infamous spillway connection (where I fell out) and into Loch Moidart, finally reaching the coast and turning left into open water at Eilean Shona.
We then headed West along the coast until we reached Kilmory Beach where we had a another night camping and complaining about midges. In the morning we did our 8 mile open water crossing to the Isle of Muck. We were just a few miles East of Ardnamurchan Point which is well known for being the most westerly point on the British mainland and for picking up large Atlantic swell, but this was a relatively good day with smooth, moving hills of water gently lifting and lowering us out of sight of each other.

Harbor at Plockton, Scotland
We visited the small town of Plockton on our way from Kyle of Lochalsh to Inverness. Plockton is accessed by a sometimes-single-track road, although the road east to Stromeferry is *all* one-track and very scenic. The town was used for filming of the Hamish MacBeth televison series ca. 2000.

Sea Kayaking the North East Passage - Aberdour - Troup Head.
I don't know where to start with this one, it was one of the most excellent, interesting, varied, trips, I've ever done. I left Stonehaven after the last paddle, as the weather turned grim again. Now the ONLY reason, I would ever have visited Pennan, was because the film 'Local Hero' was filmed there in 1982. In much the same way, I only went to Boscastle, to see what it was like after the famous flood. Both experiences have been wonderful, and it's an example of how being inquisitive, and adventurous can be rewarding. I viewed a lot of this coastline through binoculars from Troup Head, the previous day, and I would have missed out the first part of the trip, if I hadn't, probably launching at Pennan. The first part of the trip was just absolute Kayak heaven, it is the most unique, fabulous little place, I was SO impressed. A number of other paddlers I met shared the same opinion, so I knew I was on to something. The second part passes Pennan, and leads to another totally amazing, unique place. The cliffs of Lion'Head are spectacular, and eerie in equal measure. Finally there is Troup Head and the Gannet colony. I've really just brushed the surface of what's on offer here, and still ended up with a 35min video, I could have easily made it an hour, possibly hour and half. But don't worry, I do the first half of thee trip again, only in BETTER conditions, and then Troup Head from the other end, the wonderful Gardenstown Harbour.
