24 Hours in Japan's Inland Sea Paradise | Shimanami Kaido
The Shimanami Kaido cycle across Japan's Inland Sea is the most beautiful place in the country. The cycle route across the chain of islands that span it, is the best way to experience it. Even if it's one brutal undertaking on par with Mount Fuji.

Western Route: Setouchi, Japan
With Hiroshima's A-Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Park, the Kintaikyo Bridge, Miyajima Island and the Itsukushima Shrine--there's a lot to see on this Western route through Setouchi and that is just the beginning. These iconic, breathtaking Japanese highlights taught me so much and also opened my eyes to the history of this island nation.
We switched gears along the route and hopped on bikes along the Shimanami Kaido, crossing bridges and visiting beautiful small towns. One of my favorite parts was taking in all the hundreds of islands of this region from above! We flew in the Setouchi Seaplanes over some of the most magical islands in the Seto Inland Sea.
And I can't forget the Fugu (or blowfish) that we tried or my first dip in the Dogo Onsen!
This route will change your perspective of not just Japan, but the world!

We welcome you come to Matsuyama.
First Time in Teshima-Japan Travel Vlog
Teshima is well known as a one of the islands hosting Setouchi Triennale, which is a contemporary art festival held every three years in Setouchi (Seto Island Sea). This festival is featured by many foreign papers including NY Times as “52 Places to Go in 2019”.
(
I went to Teshima in the begging of December, which was already off season of the festival though, of course visited art museums and enjoyed the staying.
It is not allowed to either take photographs or videos inside the museum but more than art festival side, Teshima has got attractivenesses of something, the air, the water, the food, the scenery, and the people, more basic elements that human need.
It’s only half an hour from Takahamatsu city by a ferry. Unexpected, calming and a quality experience might be waiting for you.

DYA717 October 8, 2018 Mon Amami Oshima Setouchi
DYA717 October 8, 2018 (Mon) Amami Oshima
This is the last Youtube for this trip. Picked up a 1-day pass for 2100-yen. Big mistake yesterday had I known I would take the bus for 2 days, I could have had a 2-day pass for 3000-yen vs the 4200-yen I paid. Next bus was an hour away so I went BURA-BURA a little bit. Then a nice scenic, slow, 1:15-hr bus ride to Setouchi Town. The driver kept a steady 50 kpm or roughly 30 mph. Went for lunch. The place the tourist information staff recommended was closed for a private party so I came back to the station and ate at the restaurant there. I ordered the special which had specialties of Amami. They served the ocean-farm raised bluefin tuna from this area, some shoyu pork, etc. Was like eating an Okinawan meal! No tours available so the tourist info agency called a water taxi driver to see if he would give me a special circular boat tour around the channel. Cost me 10,000-yen for an hour cruise. The wind was pretty strong so he had to cut the tour short distance-wise not hour-wise. He said if I wore a life vest I could view things standing in the front of his small boat. I said “SHOOTS!”. Since I went outside, the driver had to stop the boat every once-in-a-while and come out to try to explain things to me. “TRY” because my Japanese is very limited and his explanations sometimes went over my head! Kekekeke I think I got enough out of his talks. We stopped where they were raising maguro (tuna) in pens in the channel. They were feeding them when we got there and you could see the water churning as the fish churned the waters getting at their feed. He stopped at another place and said this place has living coral but we couldn’t see them clearly today because the wind was ruffling the water surface. He said other parts of the bay had less coral as a lot of them are dying for some reason or another. Got back around 3 p.m. so I hopped on the bus to HE-LE on back to Naze. Went to Te-chan again! Had their Miso Goya dinner. ONO! Called it a day. Suggestion -- You need to rent a car to really see and enjoy Amami Oshima. The tourist info agent told me that the reason the bare trees you see all around was because of typhoon #24. Typhoon #25 which I just missed was a bigger one but didn’t come close enough to Amami Oshima to do more damage.

Take me to Takamatsu - cultural and taste discoveries on the Seto Inland Sea
Take me to Takamatsu, Shikoku, where the islands of the Seto Inland Sea are the stunning backdrop for cultural and taste discoveries that will surprise and delight.
Try some wasanbon, traditional sweets made from sugar local to the region, or take a walk around the famous Ritsurin Garden, where the view is said to change with every step. Or you can experience how life was in a Japanese village of traditional thatched houses at the Shikoku Mura village and then enjoy the local Sanuki udon noodles. Yashima castle ruins and the Yashima-ji Temple, part of the Shikoku 88 temple pilgrimage, are interesting cultural points on Yashima mountain, and the views from the top out over Seto Island Sea, with the islands stretching as far as the eye can see will inspire anyone to explore. Luckily Takamatsu is the perfect base to explore the art islands of the Seto Inland Sea, with Ogijima and Megijima only about a 40 minutes boat ride away.

SUMMARY
=======
The Seto Inland Sea (瀬戸内海, Seto Naikai), also known as Setouchi or often shortened to Inland Sea, is the body of water separating Honshū, Shikoku, and Kyūshū, three of the four main islands of Japan. The region that includes the Seto Inland Sea and the coastal areas of Honshū, Shikoku, and Kyūshū is known as the Setouchi Region. It serves as a waterway, connecting the Pacific Ocean to the Sea of Japan. It connects to Osaka Bay and provides a sea transport link to industrial centers in the Kansai region, including Osaka and Kobe. Before the construction of the San'yō Main Line, it was the main transportation link between Kansai and Kyūshū.
Yamaguchi, Hiroshima, Okayama, Hyōgo, Osaka, Wakayama, Kagawa, Ehime, Tokushima, Fukuoka, and Ōita prefectures all have coastlines on the Seto Inland Sea; the cities of Hiroshima, Iwakuni, Takamatsu, and Matsuyama are also located on it.
The Setouchi region is known for its moderate climate, with a stable year-round temperature and relatively low rainfall levels. The sea is also famous for its periodic red tides (赤潮, akashio) caused by dense groupings of certain phytoplankton that result in the death of large numbers of fish.
Since the 1980s, the sea's northern and southern shores have been connected by the three routes of the Honshū–Shikoku Bridge Project, including the Great Seto Bridge, which serves both railroad and automobile traffic.
