Recently at the JW Marriott Resort & Spa Phuket on Mai Khoa Beach, the Mai Khoa Marine Turtle Foundation held the New Year New Life event to ceremoniously release the turtles to the sea, as well as to raise funds for its operation. It was attended by over 200 people, comprising residents and hotel guests, many of which generously donated 3,000 Baht to get a chance to personally release a turtle to the sea.
Many children, and even some adults, are thrilled to have seen these rare animals in real life for the first time.
Mai Khao beach used to be home for sea turtle to lay eggs, but the number of nests declined in recent years . That's the main reason why a hotel like the JW Marriott Resort & Spa is putting its efforts in organizing such activity. Robert Lorhmann GM of the JW Marriott Resort & Spa said the hotel has been collaborating with other nearby resorts and many local organizations to at least promote awareness for the marine animal conservation.
Robert also handed over 600,000 Baht to the Phuket Marine Biological Center in support of their marine turtle conservation projects.
Mr. Kongkiat Kittiwattanawong, Marine Biologist and Head of the Marine Endangered Species Unit at the Phuket Marine Biological Center said that the marine turtles in the area are on the verge of extinction, due to warmer sea temperature caused by global warming, and the growing tourism industry which inhibits the turtles' nesting on the beach.
While there are usually 50 nests found yearly, this year the number dramatically dropped to 2. The nests were located at Pra Thong Island in Phang Nga Province. No nests were found at the usual nesting areas of Mai Khoa Beach of Phuket and Tai Muang Beach of Phang Nga, which is an alarming sign that these beautiful and magnificent creatures may soon be gone forever.
However, with events like today, the awareness of endangered animals is raised, while the chances of survival of the turtles are significantly increased. Hopefully, it won't be too little, too late.
If you would like to join in the conservation of the marine turtle, contact the Mai Khoa Marine Turtle Foundation (info@maikhaoturtles.com) at 076-338000 or the Phuket Marine Biological Center (pmbc@dmcr.go.th) at 076-391128.

This centre takes care of injured turtles and also has some hatchlings. It also has some fish such as the clown fish.
The centre is situated about 1 km from the Thai Muang National Park HQ.
It has sponsors which organise turtle charity events from time to time, in order to raise funds for the project.
The Phang Nga Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Centre is open to visitors daily and is free to enter. There are numerous large concrete saltwater holding tanks where guests can view different hatches of turtles. Through their first few vulnerable months the juvenile turtles stand a much better chance of survival at the sanctuary, as they are safe and away from predators. They are kept at the turtle sanctuary until they reach a minimum age of eight months old. After this point, for a donation to the research centre, visitors can release a turtle into the sea.
There are also breeding age adults, and rehabilitation tanks for sick or injured turtles. As well as turtles, the centre reserves many tanks for their Anemone fish breeding programme. There are many other tropical fish species bred and researched at the centre, all of which can be viewed by the public.

Shrimps and Cleaners - Reef Life of the Andaman - Part 21
Shrimps and symbiotic cleaners. Part 21 of my DVD, Reef Life of the Andaman, available at or view the whole 2-hour video at
In this video we look at how different types of shrimp feed, and how some shrimp and fish clean a host fish in a mutually-beneficial symbiotic relationship.
First we see a pair of harlequin shrimp, Hymenocera picta, feeding on a velvety sea star, Leiaster speciosus, at Koh Ha in Thailand's southern islands. The small shrimps feed exclusively on starfish.
We then encounter a peacock mantis shrimp, Odontodactylus scyllarus, attempting to smash an oyster with its claws which have evolved into powerful clubs.
Skunk cleaner shrimps, Lysmata amboinensis, form mutual symbiotic relationships with marine creatures such as giant morays. The shrimps clean the larger host so the so the shrimp keeps itself fed while the host keeps itself clean and healthy. We even see a skunk cleaner shrimp cleaning a scuba diver's teeth!
Cleaner wrasse perform a similar role. We see bluestreak cleaner wrasse, Labroides dimidiatus, cleaning the mouths of variable-lined fusiliers, Caesio varilineata, at Koh Bon and Koh Tachai, and cleaning inside the gill of a starry puffer, Arothron stellatus, at Staghorn Reef on Racha Yai island. We also see bicolor cleaner wrasse, Labroides bicolor, cleaning a teira batfish, a yellowspotted trevally and a giant moray eel.
Finally we examine how the cleaner's attentions are not always welcome. A honeycomb moray, Gymnothorax favagenius, is irritated by a rock cleaner shrimp, and a blackspotted puffer, Arothron nigropunctatus, is annoyed by cleaner wrasse. One even bites a pharaoh cuttlefish, Sepia pharaonis. It could be that these fish are false cleanerfish, Aspidontus taeniatus, a sabre-toothed blenny which has evolved to mimic the bluestreak cleaner wrasse, but actually feeds off the flesh of its hosts.

Look both dangerous snake, which can be found on the rest Most Viral,
Going on holiday, it should be good to know that can be a danger to you or dampen your experience. In many resort areas have a chance to meet one on one with the snake. Professional, of course, be able to distinguish what is a reptile in front of him, but the ordinary tourist is unlikely. We offer know your enemy in the face, to continue to get his side.
The steppe viper is the only reptile that is to be feared in the Crimea peninsula. As its name implies, you can easily draw a conclusion about the places where it lives: it is the steppe regions of the Crimea and the Kerch Peninsula.
As you can see in the photo, a small snake its length rarely reaches 40 cm It has a distinctive backrest color, underline a zigzag line.. It should be noted that just because a snake attack you will not only in the case when he sees a danger to his nest. Currently, in the Crimea is still no reported fatalities from the bite of steppe viper.
By the way, do you know where in the Crimea, the purest sea? And we know !
Monoklevaya cobra spread throughout Thailand and beyond it: in India, Nepal, Indochina and South China. The marriage between reptiles in Thailand is from December to January, after which the snake lays eggs. Although it is believed that the cobra lives only on the flat areas of land, though there have been cases of the meeting with her in the mountains, as well as in the water (it swims very well!).
Its bite is deadly. The venom has neurotoxic effect, causing paralysis of the respiratory system and heart. If you feel the danger of a cobra, it will inflate the hood, hear a hissing sound when you show calm, after some time, she fled. Thai people are very afraid of cobras, it is believed that if a cobra attack and kill the cobra would return and would avenge her abuser.
Krayt - one of the most aggressive snakes. She is not afraid of human presence. For example, the Internet, a case where bit pissed krayt wheel pickup truck, which did not let him soak in the hot asphalt.
There are about 12 species of snakes and more than half of them are found in Thailand. Even with a chance to survive after being bitten by krait vaccine is 50%, and all because its venom is capable of providing not only a paralyzing effect on the heart and lungs of a man, but also to penetrate his brain, killing him in the process.
Pay special attention to this reptile - it is deadly poisonous! The length of the cottonmouth reaches 1 meter, but it does not prevent him from actively attack the enemy with multiple bites. The snake is common throughout Thailand. Stones, felled trees, forest litter - all the favorite place of its location.
Copperhead snake venom have strong, it causes severe pain, local swelling, tissue necrosis. Mortality from the bite of 2%.
This is perhaps the most dangerous of vipers living in Thailand. The venom of this snake causes kidney failure and bleeding in the brain.
Location of this page viper attacks only when feeling threatened. She lives in an urban environment, so that it can be found everywhere.
Belogub keffiyeh - a viper that is prevalent everywhere in Thailand. Its bite is very painful and can even lead to tissue necrosis. Deaths are not usually the case, as in Thailand has developed special serum against all kinds kufy.
Kufii very easily adapt, so that they feel great, both on the tree and on the ground. Please note that these snakes often bite, just being on the trees, resulting in a bite occurs in the region of the head.
Reticulated python - it is one of the largest snakes in the world. At length it can reach up to 7 meters, so it should be some caution. Lives reptile throughout Thailand.
Reticulated pythons are not poisonous, but rather aggressive. Usually, the snake does not attack the man because of its large size, but children and adolescents are at risk especially large specimens. Snake possesses great strength and muscle mass, so you should stay away from her. In the wild pythons swallow monkeys, birds often attack livestock. There were times when pythons attacked tourists, trying to make memorable pictures with allegedly harmless reptile.
Tourists in the Maldives, the Philippines and the Seychelles are often greeted sea kraits right outside the hotel. This is a very dangerous snake in the venom neurotoxins which are dominated by paralyzing the nervous system, and myo-toxins that destroy muscle.
Death may occur at the earliest after a few hours, at the latest - a few days after the bite, even in renal failure on the 7th - 10th day. If bitten died after 10 days, it is likely to live, but the effects can last for a month.
Yes, Maldives - a paradise, but a look at the underside of the azure beaches , which prefer not to talk.

Shark Point 4
Shark Point and Anemone Reef.
By far the best and most popular dive sites by day trip from Phuket or Phi Phi, these two pinnacles are located approximately 25 kilometers East of Chalong Bay in Phuket. Given official Marine Sanctuary status in 1992, these two dive sites are the only day trips in Thailand that offer truly world-class quality diving and except for the limited visibility, these are two of the best dives in the world. The rock explodes with life; the sheer density of fish and other marine life makes diving here a wonderful, sensual experience.
Baby Elephant At Koh Samui Thailand's Namuang Waterfall_thePlanetraveler S01E10
CJ plays with the elephants located at Na Muang Waterfall. These animals are majestic although the pen they are kept in is not. I was told while there they are taken to an area where they are free to roam at the end of the day. I certainly hope that's the case.
At 30m, Na Muang Waterfall is the tallest waterfall on Samui and lies in the centre of the island about 12km from Na Thon. During the rainy season, the water cascades over ethereal purple rocks, and there’s a great pool for swimming at the base. This is the most scenic – and somewhat less frequented – of Samui’s falls, but don't expect much action in dry weather.
The elephants at this attraction are used to give trekking tours around the waterfall.
