Bicheno Tasmania
Bicheno is located (182 km) north-east of Hobart a family seaside holiday town with lots to see and do, good accommodation, excellent fishing and close to wildlife.
Located north of the Freycinet Peninsula, Bicheno sits on Tasmania's beautiful East Coast. Offshore, the Governor Island Marine Reserve has some of the best diving spots in Australia, with kelp-covered reefs and spectacular sponge gardens. This water wonderland can also be experienced by kayak or glass-bottomed boat.
There's plenty to do on dry land as well, with popular penguin tours and scenic walks to Rocking Rock, the blowhole and along the sandbar to Diamond Island Nature Reserve. The local wildlife park also has lots of animals to meet up close, including kangaroos, Tasmanian devils and pelicans. More natural wonders can be found at the nearby Douglas-Apsley and Freycinet National Parks.
Other things to do in Bicheno include deep sea fishing, motor tricycle tours and a Grape Escape wine tour of the local coastal wineries. For foodies, there's a bounty of fresh seafood in this fishing town, from crayfish, abalone to delicious Australian salmon.
Diving with Weedy Sea Dragons, Tasmania, Australia
Diving with the amazing Weedy Sea Dragons (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus) off the Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania, as featured on the BBC Oceans episode Southern Ocean. Related to seahorses, Weedy Seadragons are only found in southern Australia - the largest and most colourful animals are found in southern Tasmania. They live amongst kelp and other seaweeds, and feed on small crustaceans such as mysids which they suck up individually using their tube-like snout. Like seahorses, the male carries the eggs until they hatch.

Seahorse World Beauty Point Tasmania
Seahorse World at Beauty Point in Tasmania is a great family activity. Seahorses, sharks, crabs and other native and international animals are on display. Learn and interact with Seahorses. Here's what you can expect on a visit or tour of Seahorse World.
Full post on our blog:
Whilst in Tasmania on our trip by Cabin & Car we stopped in to visit Seahorse World which is right next door to Platypus House in Beauty Point, to the North North East in Tasmania.
It’s a very interactive tour that takes you through the various types of Seahorses, what they are, what they do, how they reproduce and you even get to touch one in a live feel tank. When visiting you take a tour to explore the favility, like at Platypus House which is directly opposite. There is a pass you can purchase to visit both locations, plus the Beaconsfield Mine, but we were missing the mine this time after getting our fix at the Wonthaggi Coal Mines recently.
The kids learnt a lot about not only Seahorses, but also a number of other marine animals. They learnt about the lifecycle of clown fish and got to meet a 10 year old crab from the Tasman/Bass Straight region and he was MASSIVE!
Check out the video above, where you can see the tour and all the fun we had learning about the mystical animal that is the Seahorse!
Dive the Giant Kelp Forest, Tasmania, Australia
Diving in the amazing Giant Kelp Forest (Macrocystis pyrifera) off the Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania, Australia. Includes weedy seadragons swimming in the kelp forest. Isle de Phoque Dive -
Isle de Phoque is an exposed rock between Maria and Schouten Islands, about 10 nautical miles east of Little Swanport. Considered one of Tasmania's most exciting dives, Isle de Phoque is home to a large seal colony and is riddled with caves. Most of the caves are subject to surge and should only be attempted on calm days and with an experienced guide. The best caves are on the north-east corner with several running right through the island. The caves are covered with zoanthids and are usually occupied by schools of fish. Most of the caves start at 20 metres and several have light entering through the roof.

Salmon Growing in Tasmania
Bruny Island Boat Trip - Tasmania
Bruny Island Boat Trip - Tasmania. 900hp large rib, didn't make it all the way to see seals as the waves and tide were just too big today. Did see Whales, Dolphins, variety of sea birds, and fantastic views of the cliffs, caves and rock formations. A great trip, well worth doing, no matter what the weather/conditions.
