Melbourne Parks.. A Patch of Heritage at FRANKSTON Kananook Creek Reserve Melbourne Australia
Protect Local Heritage Inc, Pompeis Landing Pty Ltd. Frankston Fisher Boy dated 1897 is the cover picture of this video - The Australasian newspaper. Frankston - Seaford Kananook Creek Reserve follows parts of an old pre European days sand ridge that sat parallel to the creek. Today the boundaries are approx from Eel Race Road to Frankston Foreshore. There are an estimated 200 plus indigenous species that are located throughout this Reserve. The creek protector and advocate since 1970 being the Kananook Creek Association - congratulations for your decades of committment and service.. Transcript - Argus newspaper dated 9 August 1870 ...The low lands of Western Port are literally under water. There has been great mortality in live stock generally, and a great loss of lambs and weak sheep. The roads are all but wholly impassable. Even in the Sandy soils there are so many springs opening and such accumulations of loose quicksands, that roads usually sound after rain are now dangerous to vehicles and horsemen. The high winds accompanying the long-continued wet weather have caused the downfall of lines of fencing on the flats. The Carrum Swamp is enormously flooded; the low lands adjacent, stocked with cattle and sheep , are two to four feet deep under water, and as the creeks fed from the swamp and communicating with the sea are vastly inadequate to carry off quickly such an enormous volume of flood-water, it will probably accumulate and stand back over a large extent of fenced, stocked, and cropped lands. No scheme of drainage will suffice to carry off quickly such an enormous volume as is brought down to the swamp in this and similar floods by the Dandenong and Eumemmering creeks, and the large drainage channels cut by the district road boards, unless a large outlet to the sea from the nearest point of the swamp's centre be a leading feature thereof. From the head of the Kananook to the sea is under 200 yards, while the course of the Kananook Creek thence to its mouth is nearly six miles. The tea-tree chocking the rapid pent-up storm waters, the sea mouth is always choked with drifted sand. There was recently a great rush of selectors to peg out portions of the Mordialloc Common and adjacent swamp lands, and great annoyance was expressed by applicants when told it was reserved for drainage. Their pegs are now under water and no means of reaching them but by boats.....

Melbourne Parks..A patch of Heritage at Mordialloc Creek Parkland Melbourne Australia
Pompeis Landing Pty Ltd, Protect Local Heritage Inc.. After the train bridge Pompei side of Mordialloc Creek, includes this nature Parkland. Land on both sides of the Mordialloc Creek has NOT been PERMANENTLY reserved (protected) as Crown Land for public purposes/park - for the long term benefit of the general community. Incredibly, the land is only temporarily reserved (from sale). Despite a significant formal type of inquiry which occurred January this year (2019). The Gazette has been provided in this video. The Victorian Government's main Land Authority (OSG - Office of Surveyor General) completed a status and management review inclusive of this land that surrounds the Mordialloc Creek. The OSG has left the status of this land as TEMPORARY reservation from sale for a Public Park/public purposes. Except for the 1881 gazette that legally binds a permanent reservation over the first 30 metres from each bank of the Mordialloc Creek the rest of the land remains in a fragile status of TEMPORARY RESERVED (since the 1870s - not a typo, yes the eighteen hundreds - 1870s that is over 140 years since first gazetted temporary reserved from sale.
Mordialloc's history is well documented and includes the first Australian's the Bunurong people, part of the Kulin nation.
The formal sanctioning of an Aboriginal Reserve in Mordialloc was instigated by European policy and management.
The Chinese played an important role in Mordialloc from the 1850s as Fishermen, dealers in fish (including being buyers at auctions) and having Salting/fish curing enterprises.
The Carnival Committee existed for decades running entertainment services non stop for months as a yearly event. The huge monies raised was in the majority ejected into project works and maintenance for upkeep of the creek and adjoining land. People arrived in droves for the Mordialloc Carnival.
This section of the Mordialloc Creek Parkland also is stated to include a small area that the Pompei family occupied for their hire boat business.
Transcript Fisheries and Wildlife Division 26th May 1976..I inspected the Mordialloc Creek and surrounding environs from the Nepean highway bridge, upstream to Wells Road/Boundary Road bridge (1.3km approx). The Creek was connected to the Edithvale-Carrum-Seaford wetland area, and was one of only two outlets for this system. The other being the Kananook Creek at Frankston. The section of the Mordialloc Creek inspected appears to be the ONLY original portion of Creek remaining. The section upstream from Wells Road/Boundary Road bridge is now the Mordialloc Main Drain, constructed to drain part of the former wetland. On the south side of the Mordialloc Creek the Dandenong Valley Authority have constructed a flood retaining basin and water control structure which regulates the flow of floodwater from the basin into the Mordialloc Creek. (Additional notes) - Between the boat ramp and the bridge the creek is used intensively for boating.. There are many permanent moorings along this section of the Creek. The Creek itself averages approx 30 metres in width. The vegetation consists mainly of Common Reed (Phragmites Australis), Melaleuca spp. & Furze (Ulex Europaeus)..The water in the Creek is very turbid and foul smelling. Birds observed were 2 Coots, and numerous Blackbirds, Indian Mynas & House Sparrows.

Buyer's Agent Andrew Date, discussing the Bayside suburb of Seaford.
It's a stunning day and I'm standing here at the Seaford foreshore, a beautiful spot and an asset for anyone living in the area.
Seaford is one of the family friendly suburbs with a variety of state schools and a wide selection of sporting and community groups.
I spent 20 years living here and can certainly say it's a fantastic place to grow up.
Seaford also features a stunning 390 acre wetland nature reserve, there are walking tracks that lead all the way to the beach as well as the beautiful and winding Kananook Creek nature reserve.
Serviced by public transport and with major roads such as East link and Peninsula Link available, you will have direct access to Melbourne CBD and the idyllic Morninton Peninsula.
Seaford is populated by excellent restaurants and cafes and it's beach side location promotes a lifestyle that brings the best of both world's.
There is so much more that makes Seaford such a great place to live, I know you will love it here.

2017 EMS Community Snorkel Day (Hallett Cove Beach)
Experiencing Marine Sanctuaries Inc. (EMS) provides safe & supervised 'in water' snorkelling experiences of SA's unique marine life. Snorkel events are supported by Natural Resources, Adelaide and Mount Lofty Ranges and the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources. is based on (with permission) the highly successful New Zealand program ‘Experiencing Marine Reserves’ (EMR). The New Zealand EMR program has run for over 13 years under the leadership of Director Samara Nicholas and the concept is now expanding across NZ and overseas. The NZ EMR empowers schools and communities by providing the equipment and expertise for a hands-on learning experience in the ocean. The program involves investigating marine biodiversity and local marine environments before venturing to a fully protected marine reserve. After this experience, students are able to compare unprotected and protected areas and are supported to put their knowledge into action within the community.
The South Australian EMS program proposes to develop and coordinate an experiential program for schools and community that will seek to achieve better protection of the marine environment through education and advocacy. The program will focus on upper junior and middle years. An important component of EMS’s approach to education will be to give students and their parents a safe and professionally supervised ‘hands on’ experience of the marine environment. Whenever possible this will include experiencing both unprotected marine environments and marine sanctuaries or reserves, with particular emphasis on comparing the diversity and abundance of organisms within each environment. Having a ratio of one parent to two students assists with supervision, ensures strong community connection with project and also builds intergenerational links.
In future, participants will collect fish abundance and diversity data while participating in a snorkel experience using the Reef Watch Fish Survey method (also known as a belt transect survey method). Snorkelers swim in a straight line for 50 m at a constant depth and speed and record the fish that they observe in a 5 m belt (2.5 m either side). The fish sightings are recorded directly on a waterproof fish slate.
EMS and NRM Education will work together to provide teacher professional development (and networking) opportunities, curriculum links and access to existing marine science resources and teaching plans. This will ensure teachers are supported and feel confident to teach marine science in their classroom.
EMS will work closely with summer school holiday programs, NaturePlay SA, DEWNR’s Junior Ranger program and Reef Watch program to organise, provide equipment, marine experts and supervision to run community snorkel experiences.
