Our trip to Yellowknife, Canada
Took a week's trip to Yellowknife, Canada this December 2019. Faced the craziest conditions, of -40. Where we also went snowmobiling and dog sledding, and of course, aurora hunting.

Two Holes on the Sun Give Chances for Aurora: Solar Storm Forecast 2-23-2017
The Sun's activity has picked up with several eruptions, some Earth-directed and active flaring. The eruptions come on top of some fast wind that should bring us storm conditions starting later today. Catch up on amazing aurora pictures from the last set of solar storms and see how the Sun will affect you this week!

Solar Storm Mania Makes Headlines: Solar Storm Forecast 03-15-2018
According to many media sources, a massive solar storm is supposed to be ravaging Earth today. But the stories are overblown. Indeed a solar storm is hitting Earth now due to some fast solar wind from a coronal that has rotated into the earth-strike zone this week, but storming is expected to be mild and sporadic, causing minor inconveniences for GPS users, emergency responders, and amateur radio operators. Learn the real truth about the strength of the solar storm hitting thus far, where and when its possible to see aurora, catch up on photos from the last solar storm, and see and what else the Sun has in store this week!

Aftermath of Hurricane Lane & A New Cycle Begins: Solar Storm Forecast 08-30-2018
This week was an unbelievable week for space weather. A G3-level solar event conspired with Hurricane Lane and set the stage for what became a perfect storm. These storms might have well been twins! Both storms hit nearly simultaneously, and both storms lingered, exacerbating storm conditions for many hours. If Lane had truly made landfall, the results could have been more disastrous, but as it were its slow speed and Category 4 intensity were enough to cause massive flooding on the big island, leaving some people stranded and without the comforts of home. Had the situation been worse, amateur radio operators would have been a life line of communications. But that would have proven difficult as the massive solar storm was already knocking out communications on emergency radio frequencies for many hours. Perfect storms like these don't come very often, but when they do, you never forget! Learn how many ways this massive solar storm impacted Earth, catch up on aurora photos during the storm, and see why more and more scientists are saying solar cycle 25 is just around the corner!

A Stormy Solar Minimum : Solar Storm Forecast 08-18-2018
The Sun continues to send solar storms our way this week. We have hardly calmed down from this last one and are are already preparing for another. Expect fast solar wind to hit in a few days, bringing aurora possibly to mid-latitudes. Amateur radio operators might be struggling this week despite a new active region emerging into Earth view. Low solar flux remains on Earth's day side and disruption from the solar storms could make the bands noisy on the night side. GPS users, however, should enjoy good reception away from aurora, and the dawn-dusk terminators. Learn the details of the coming storm, catch up on aurora pics, and see what else the Sun has in store.

SXSW announced Wednesday the film — the second cinematic take on King’s 1983 book following Marc Lambert’s 1989 page-to-screen version — will hold its world premiere screening as the 2019 edition’s closing night selection. Directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, Pet Sematary follows Dr. Louis Creed (Clark) who relocates his wife Rachel (Amy Seimetz) and their two children from Boston to rural Maine, where he discovers a mysterious an ominous cemetary for animals tucked away deep in the forest near his new home. After tragedy unexpectedly strikes shortly after the relocation, Louis looks to his neighbor Jud (John Lithgow) for guidance, which sets off a chain of horrific events tied to the titular burial ground. The Austin-based festival also announced new additions to its Midnighters, Festival Favorites, Shorts, Episodic Pilots, and Virtual Cinema Projects programs, including 129 overall feature films and 100 total world premieres. Films joining the festival in these programs include Helen Hunt’s I See You, Eddie Izzard’s Boyz in the Wood, and Lupita Nyong’o’s zombie flick Little Monsters also starring Josh Gad. Previously announced films heading to SXSW include the Jordan Peele-directed thriller Us (also featuring Nyong’o); Matthew McConaughey’s The Beach Bum (directed by Harmony Korine), Olivia Wilde’s feature directorial debut Booksmart starring Lisa Kudrow and Jason Sudeikis; Thom Zimney’s The Gift: The Journey of Johnny Cash; the Tatiana Maslany-starring Pink Wall directed by Tom Cullen, and Long Shot, Jonathan Levine’s Seth Rogen/Charlize Theron comedy about a romance between a diplomat and a hard-partying journalist.
