Russian Missile Cruiser Moskva Arrived in Latakia Port, Syria
youtube.com/murdikar007 Russian Guided Missile Cruiser Moskva Arrived in Latakia Port Syria.
Russian cruiser Moskva Moskva (Москва the Russian name for the city of Moscow, ex-Slava, Слава which means Glory) is the lead ship of the Project 1164 Atlant class of guided missile cruisers in the Russian Navy. The ship is currently held under the patronage of the city of Moscow. Slava was laid down in 1976 in Shipyard 445 of the 61 Kommunara Shipbuilding Plant in Nikolayev, was launched in 1979, and commissioned on 30 January 1983. Slava played a role in the Malta Summit (2-3 December 1989) between Soviet Leader Mikhail Gorbachev and US President George H. W. Bush. Slava was used by the Soviet delegation, while the US delegation had their sleeping quarters aboard USS Belknap.[1][2][3] The ships were anchored in a roadstead off the coast of Marsaxlokk. Stormy weather and choppy seas resulted in some meetings being cancelled or rescheduled, and gave rise to the moniker the Seasick Summit among international media. In the end, the meetings took place aboard Maxim Gorkiy, a Soviet cruise ship anchored in the harbor at La Valletta. Slava returned to Nikolayev in December 1990 for a refit but was not returned to service until April 2000. As Moskva[edit] Recommissioned as Moskva in April 2000, she replaced the Kynda-class cruiser Admiral Golovko as the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet.[4] In early April 2003, Moskva, along with Pytlivy, Smetlivy, and a landing ship departed Sevastopol for exercises in the Indian Ocean with a Pacific Fleet task group (Marshal Shaposhnikov and Admiral Panteleyev) and the Indian Navy.[5] The force was supported by the Project 1559V tanker Ivan Bubnov and the Project 712 ocean-going tug Shakhter. In August 2008, in response to the Georgian crisis, Moskva was deployed to secure the Black Sea.[6][7][8] After Russia's recognition of Abkhazia's independence, the ship was stationed at the Abkhazian capital, Sukhumi.[9] On 3 December 2009, Moskva was laid up for a month at floating dock PD-30 for a scheduled interim overhaul which comprised replacement of cooling and other machinery, reclamation work at bottom and outboard fittings, propulsion shafts and screws, clearing and painting of bottom and above-water parts of the ship's hull. In April 2010 it was reported that the cruiser would join other navy units in the Indian Ocean to conduct exercises.[10] In August 2013 the cruiser visited Havana, Cuba [11] In late August 2013, the cruiser was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea in response to the build-up of American warships along the coast of Syria.[12] During the 2014 Crimean Crisis, Moskva was responsible for blockading the Ukrainian fleet in Donuzlav Lake.[13] On 18 November 2015, the cruiser was deployed to assist French Armed Forces in the fight It was announced on 25 November that Moskva would be deployed to the coastal Syria-Turkey border in response to the 2015 Russian Sukhoi Su-24 shootdown.

Syrian troops shell the port of Latakia
Syrian forces reportedly shelled the port of Latakia for the third consecutive day on Monday.
Anti-government activists posted amateur footage which they said showed tanks patrolling the city.
The number of casualties was unknown.
On Sunday, Damascus denied that any shelling had taken place.
The opposition also says the military has again fired on protesters in Homs, Syria's third-largest city.
Government officials say troops are tackling 'armed gangs' -- protesters against President Bashar al-Assad's rule deny that claim.

Lebanon port ready for Syria’s post-war windfall
(17 Aug 2017) The port of Tripoli in northern Lebanon wants the world to know it's ready for business.
After six years of civil war in Syria, markets across the Middle East anticipate a mammoth reconstruction boom once peace arrives, a windfall that could bring in billions in economic activity.
Lebanon, Syria's tiny neighbour, is in prime position to capture a share of that money and revive its own sluggish economy.
Ahmad Tamer, Tripoli's port manager, estimates that Syria's reconstruction will create a demand for 30 million tonnes of cargo capacity annually.
But according to Tamer Syria's main ports, Tartous and Latakia, also on the Mediterranean, only have a combined capacity of 10 to 15 million tonnes, that's why he wants Tripoli port to be ready to step in for the rest.
The port is nearing the completion of the first phase of an expansion project first drawn up in 2009, and then revised with an eye on Syria in 2016.
Capital investment has reached around 400 million US dollars, according to the port manager.
On a map, Tamer pointed to a vacant quadrant where preparations are underway to build silos to hold grain destined for regional markets.
The port signed a 25-year lease with the Emirati operator Gulftainer to manage the terminal.
Ibrahim Hermes, the CEO of Gulftainer's Lebanese subsidiary says he expects cargo to start moving to Syria by late 2018.
Before the war in Syria, goods coming through Lebanon's ports used to transit as far afield as Iraq, saving ships from having to take the sea journey through the Suez Canal and around the Arabian Peninsula.
There is talk now that Tripoli could even be a terminal to China's trillion-dollar new Silk Road project, carving a trade route from East Asia to Europe.
The World Bank estimates the cost to rebuild Syria at 200 billion US dollars.
For Lebanon, that could be just the stimulus it needs - the tiny Mediterranean country's growth rate has hovered around 1.5 percent since 2013.
Although the capital, Beirut, has grown visibly richer over the years, Tripoli and the impoverished north have lagged behind.
Lebanon is in front of an opportunity that it needs to take very seriously, said Raya al-Hassan, a former finance minister from northern Lebanon who now directs the Tripoli Special Economic Zone project that's planned to be built adjacent to the port.
Europe and the United States are hesitant to finance the reconstruction projects so long as Assad, a pariah to the West, remains in power.
But Lebanon won't be standing idly by.
As soon as there is a political agreement to end the war, we will be among the first countries to play a role in reconstruction, said al-Hassan.

Syrian air defenses have engaged missiles targeting the area of Latakia, a city in the coastal province that is the home of Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base. Seven people were reportedly injured in the attack.
According to the state SANA news agency, the attack targeted the Technical Industries Agency headquarters in Latakia, owned by the Syrian military. Reports from the area refer to “powerful explosions” heard in the city. According to Syrian military sources, the strikes also targeted a power station and an aluminum factory.
The attack began around 10 pm local time. Photos posted on social media show tracers and missile plumes streaking across the night sky above Latakia, as well as several explosions.

Russian military plane with 14 on board disappears during Israeli strikes on Latakia A Russian military Il-20 aircraft with 14 service members on board went off the radars during an attack by four Israeli jets on Syria’s Latakia province.
Air traffic controllers at the Khmeimim Air Base “lost contact” with the aircraft on Monday evening, during the attack of Israeli F-16 fighters on Latakia, said the MOD.
The plane was 35 kilometers off the coast of Syria when it vanished. Fourteen people were on board the plane at the time of the disappearance. A search and rescue mission is underway.
The Ilyushin 20 (IL-20) surveillance turboprop plane is an Electronic Intelligence (ELINT) platform, equipped with a wide range of antennas, infrared and optical sensors.
The aircraft's SLAR (Side-Looking Airborne Radar) and the plane's satellite link allows the Russian military to monitor Syrian skies in real time. An hour-long attack on Latakia began around 10 pm local time, and targeted a power station as well as two facilities belonging to the Syrian military. Syrian officials said the attack was “foreign” and came “from the sea,” but could not initially confirm rumors that Israel was behind it. Seven people were injured in the attack, according to Syrian officials.

Orsk 148 Transported Russian Weapons to Syria... #Syria #Russia #Idlib #Latakia
The Russian military is sending another batch of vehicles and heavy weapons to Syria in order to further bolster the Arab republic’s armed forces.
On Monday, observers in the Bosphorus Strait spotted and filmed the Mediterranean-bound journey of a Russian Navy Tapir-class LST (Landing Ship Tank) sealifter.
Identified more specifically as Orsk 148, the naval cargo ship is noted by sources to be inbound to the Syrian port city of Tartus – its second such deployment since the beginning of 2018.
Whilst a number of military trucks were spotted above deck, it is worth noting that the true cargo-carrying capacity of the ship is hidden inside deceptively spacious storage areas within the vessel itself.
Tapir-class LSTs are capable of carrying up to twenty main battle tanks (or 40 infantry fighting vehicles).

WATCH: Syrian port city Latakia 'attacked by missiles from sea'
#Syrianair defenses have engaged missiles targeting the area of #Latakia, a city in the coastal province that is the home of Russia’s Khmeimim Air Base. Seven people were reportedly injured in the attack.
According to the state SANA news agency, the attack targeted the Technical Industries Agency headquarters in Latakia, owned by the #Syrianmilitary. Reports from the area refer to “powerful explosions”heard in the city. According to Syrian military sources, the strikes also targeted a power station and an aluminum factory.
The attack began around 10 pm local time. Photos posted on social media show tracers and missile plumes streaking across the night sky above Latakia, as well as several explosions.
Air defense activity was also reported in Homs and Tartous provinces, where Russia maintains a naval base.
Syrian media report that a “number of missiles” have been shot down. Multiple reports from the area speak of an attack by missiles launched from drones. It is unclear whether only the Syrian air defense batteries have been engaged, or if the Russian air defenses around Khmeimim are taking part as well.
Seven people were injured in the attacks, Ahmad Kazem of the Syrian Human Rights Network told RIA Novosti.
Multiple local reports have accused Israel of launching the strikes, but there has been no independent confirmation of that. Another possibility suggested by local media is that the drone attack came from the jihadists in Idlib. SANA reported the missiles targeting Latakia came “from the sea,” citing military sources.
The attack comes just hours after Russia and Turkey negotiated a partial demilitarization of the Idlib province, which is the last remaining stronghold of anti-government militants, including the Al-Qaeda affiliate Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (also known as the Jabhat Al-Nusra).
