Searys Creek, Rainbow Beach, Qld
Crystal clear running water makes a nice home for the eel and catfish. Just 7 km from Rainbow Beach towards Gympie and Tin Can Bay, you will find a small carpark off the road. Set in ferns and melaleuca woods, take the boardwalk down to the one of the two swimming holes. It was great to see National Parks and Wildlife Service had recently updated the jetties. There is plenty of room for towels and drinks and spectators (it is cold!). Steps down into the water are easy for all ages and run straight into a sandy creek bottom. Stained with tannins from vegetation, the rainwater is tea coloured but transparent. No murky water today – we could see the little fish and big yabbies. A huge tree trunk lies across one end -perfect as another platform for launches across the water.
