Home in 300 year old castle minutes from central London could be yours for £2 75 million
Fit for a queen: Home in 300-year-old castle minutes from central London could be yours for £2.75 million (and it comes with a spectacular view of the Shard)
The historic property was built in 1718 by the same architect behind Blenheim Palace, Sir John Vanbrugh
Buyers will get a wing of the building, with four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a 27ft roof terrace to boot
The castle is situated by Maze Hill overground station, which zips to London Bridge in a matter of minutes
For high-flying house hunters looking for a piece of history, an 18th castle in London has recently hit the market for a princely £2.75 million.
The property, situated in Zone 3, was built in 1718 by Sir John Vanbrugh - the same architect behind Blenheim Palace - to be used as his primary residence.
Buyers will not get full rein of the castle but just a wing of the building, featuring four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a 27ft roof terrace with views of the Shard to boot.
On the garden front, there is no moat but the property is situated on 2.5 acres of communal grounds.
It is also on the doorstep of Greenwich Park with local attractions, including a child-friendly boating lake, six tennis courts, the National Maritime Museum and the Royal Observatory, nearby.
When it comes to parking, there are two spaces for cars - or a horse and carriage for the maverick historian.
For commuters, the castle is ideally situated as it's just a stone's throw from Maze Hill overground station, which zips to London Bridge in a matter of minutes.
Before being restored and transformed into four separate apartments by the Blackheath Preservation Trust in 1977, the castle was used as a school until 1975.
It was then run by the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund for the sons of personnel killed in service.
Number 2, Vanbrugh Castle is set over four storeys and is pegged as an ideal home for a family.
It is currently available through Winkworth estate agents, with a share of the freehold up for grabs.
Cragside House, World's first Hydroelectric Home.
I hope you enjoy this brief visit, some information relating to the estate is below.
Described in 1880 as 'a palace of the modern magician', Cragside House, Gardens and Woodland is a truly unique visitor attraction in the heart of Northumberland. Situated near Rothbury, it was the family home of Lord Armstrong, Victorian inventor and industrialist. Cragside was the first building in the world to be lit by hydroelectricity and a walk around the National Trust property reveals a wealth of ingenious gadgetry including fire alarm buttons, telephones, a passenger lift and a Turkish bath suite.
As if that wasn't enough, the grounds of the Cragside Estate offer up a host of activities that will keep you and your family busy and fit. There's a play area, a rhododendron maze, a waterfall and the Trim Trail, where the whole family can test their agility. The estate has more than 30 miles of footpaths and lakeside walks. If it is raining, head inside to the Power House which has interactive models which children can use to generate their own electricity. There is also a children's trail in the house. Cragside is home to one of Europe's largest rock gardens sloping down the valley to the Debdon Burn. The Iron Bridge, one of the oldest of its type in the UK, crosses the burn.
Armstrong was a landscape genius and constructed five lakes and planted over seven million trees and shrubs. Cragside has one of Europe's largest Rock Gardens.
The estate can be explored either on foot or by car and look out for the increasingly rare red squirrel that has made the gardens of Cragside its home. The revolutionary home of Lord Armstrong, Victorian inventor and landscape genius, was a wonder of its age. Built on a rocky crag high above Debdon Burn, the house was the first in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity. Cragside is a garden of breathtaking drama, whatever the season.
Today this magnificent estate can be explored on foot or by car and provides one of the last shelters for the endangered red squirrel. Children will love the tall trees, tumbling streams, adventure play area and labyrinth. You can drive through the estate stopping at various places to either explore or have a picnic, but of course no BBQ's are allowed.

Salisbury, England (1080p HD)
Salisbury is a cathedral city in Wiltshire, England and the only city in the county. It is the second largest settlement (with the largest being Swindon) in the county. It has also been called New Sarum to distinguish it from the original site of settlement to the north of the city at Old Sarum, but this alternative name is not in common use.
The city is located in the south-east of Wiltshire, near the edge of Salisbury Plain. It sits at the confluence of five rivers: the Nadder, Ebble, Wylye and Bourne are tributary to the Avon, which flows to the south coast and into the sea at Christchurch, Dorset. Salisbury railway station serves the city, and is the crossing point between the West of England Main Line and the Wessex Main Line, making it a regional interchange.
Although the actual city was not established until 1220, there has been a settlement in the area since prehistory. There is evidence of Neolithic settlement on the hilltop of Old Sarum, which became a hill fort in the Iron Age. The Romans called this fort Sorviodunum and may also have occupied the fort. The Saxons established themselves there called it Searesbyrig and the Normans built a castle or Seresberi. By 1086, in the Domesday Book, it was called Salesberie.
The first Salisbury Cathedral was built on the hill by St Bishop Osmund between 1075 and 1092. A larger building was built on the same site circa 1120. However, deteriorating relations between the clergy and the military at Old Sarum led to the decision to re-site the cathedral elsewhere. Even in the 12th century, Peter of Blois had described the old church as a captive within the walls of the citadel like the ark of God in the profane house of Baal.
