The city of Larisa is the capital of the province and is built on the very central area of the large plain on the right bank of Pineios river. It is one of the most significant commercial, agricultural and communication centers of Hellas. Larisa is a city that combines the remains and color of the long passed Turkish rule and the Ottoman culture, with the Hellenic cultural and architectural style of the beginnings of the 20th century. A city that also combines the tranquillity and the relaxed rhythm of the lazy river, the many storks that build their nests on the tallest buildings of the city and the sleepy movements of the river fishermen, along with the hubbub of a busy, bustling town. After many years of uncontrolled growing the city has managed, only recently, to restore a harmonic relationship with its river and the surrounding environment in general. The city's Post-Office's(Tachydromiou) square with its excellent sculptures, representing the branching, life-giving, ever-flowing water bulk of river Pineios, along with the site of the excavations of the ancient theater of the city, located at its very center, have caused a major transformation of the city, that brings it more close to its origins, bonds it tightly to the surrounding environment and restores its classic atmosphere. The ancient city of the theater had a capacity of 10000 spectators. But this excavation site may not be the city's most significant landmark. This title is most suitably given to the grave of Heppocrates, born in the island of Kos in 460 BC and died in the city of Larisa in 377 BC, who is considered to be the father of modern medicine. At the outskirts of the nearby town of Achileion the ruins of the local castle have been excavated. The ruins are dated back to the 15th century but the original compound was erected sometime during the late Neolithic period. The visit to the Folklore and Historic museum of the city may be proved to be most rewarding for the traveler. Also rewarding is a visit to the city's National Gallery with its fine collection of paintings, only second in significance after the National Gallery of Athens.

GREECE: EXPLORING ANCIENT THEATER built on rocky hillside 2400 years ago in ARGOS ????️
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go visit the ancient theater of Argos, which was built in 320 BC. The Hellenistic theater at Argos is cut into the hillside of the Larisa Hill, with 90 steps up a steep incline, forming a narrow rectilinear cavea. Among the largest theaters in Greece, it held about 20,000 spectators and is divided by two landings into three horizontal sections. Nearby from this site is Agora, Roman Odeon, and the Baths of Argos. The theater is one of the largest architectural developments in Greece and was renovated in ca 120 AD.
Greece is a country in southeastern Europe with thousands of islands throughout the Aegean and Ionian seas. Influential in ancient times, it's often called the cradle of Western civilization. Athens, its capital, retains landmarks including the 5th-century B.C. Acropolis citadel with the Parthenon temple. Greece is also known for its beaches, from the black sands of Santorini to the party resorts of Mykonos.

In classical Greece, Lerna was a region of springs and a former lake near the east coast of the Peloponnesus, south of Argos. Its site near the village Mili at the Argolic Gulf is most famous as the lair of the Lernaean Hydra, the chthonic many-headed water snake, a creature of great antiquity when Heracles killed it, as the second of his labors. The strong Karstic springs remained; the lake, diminished to a silt lagoon by the 19th century, has vanished.Lerna is notable for several archaeological sites, including an Early Bronze Age structure known as House of the Tiles, dating to the Early Helladic period II .

Argolida
The space of Argolida covers pages of glorious history of all seasons. Only a few regions of the world can demonstrate 4.000years of continuous history.
The most ancient residents of Argolida, according to the mythology, are the Pelasgians.
Image The Heroes of Pre-Hellenic past of Argolida that are reported are the Inachides. Inachos was the founder of dynasty and his descendants were Panoptis, Argos, Pelasgos, Myceani (according to an opinion the name of Myceane emanates from her name), Phoroneus who was the gorgeous founder of the first cities of Argos and Io the most glorious woman.
In the beginnings of the Second millennium, for example, it is placed the cathode of the Greek races - Achaeans - in the Greek Countries, that with the old resigned residents were founded various states. From the most powerful founded Achaean states were the hegemonies of Tiryntha and Mycenae.
Around 1000B.C. the cathode of the Dorians had as a result the destruction of the Mycenaean Culture.
Since 6th B.C. century, Argos continues to constitute a force that regulates everything in Peloponnese. The ruins of Heraio and the gorgeous temple of the goddess Hera can testify this. After the subjugation of Greece to the Romans, mainly during the Byzantine season, the history of Argos is complicated with the history of Nafplio.
Nafplia, which is the ancient name of Nafplio, it was an independent city up to 676 B.C., when it became the haven of Argos. Since 589 B.C. the city is known as Nafplio.
The acme of this city is placed at 120 A.C. For 100 years Nafplio remained under the administration of the Frank Dukes of Athens, De La Ross. Later it was ceded to the Venetians until 1540 when it was granted with treaty to the Turkish. At the first period of the Turkish domination in Nafplio, the new martyr Saint Anastasios the Nafplieas died for his faith and his memory is celebrated at the 1st of February every year.
The first period of the Turkish domination was terminated at 22 of August, 1686, when the Commander-in-Chief of the Venetian forces, Francis Morozinis, after a long period siege, he occupied Nafplio and ordered to take place researches of a complete fortification estate, according to the rules of the art of war, of the mountain of Palamidi in combination with the fortification estate of Akronafplia.
The construction of protective bastions and generally the fortification of Palamidi, started at the 1687 with the self-supervision of Morozini, who after the conquest of Peloponnese, assigned Nafplio as the capital of Moreas Kingdom, seat of the General Supervisor, seat of the Commander-in-Chief of the East and Capital of the Greek-Romania County. At that time Nafplio was named as Napoli di Romania.
The completion of the fortification of Palamidi and mainly of the island Mpourtzi were under the supervision of Augustine Sagredos, Commander-in-Chief and Ieronymous Selphinos, General Supervisor of Moreas Kingdom.
The second period of Turkish domination for Nafplio started in 1715 when it devolved to the Besieger Daout Pasha and was terminated at 30 of November in 1822, when Staikos Staikopoulos together with 350 men occupied the Palamidi, after continuous but failed sieges of the city from the Greeks.
Since then Nafplio played the protagonist role in all of the phases of the fight for independence. Argos also played a very important role. In this town took place the First National Assembly in 1821, and afterwards its seat was relocated to New Epidaurus.
The old castle of Argos, Larissa, played an important role to the destruction of Dramalis, because Ypsilantis and 700 more men were barred inside and scuttled the invaders, until Kolokotronis assembled army and shattered the Turkish forces in Dervenakia.
At 7th of January 1828, Ioannis Kapodistrias, the First Governor of Greece, he landed in Nafplio, where a lot of work is indebted to him, such as the first School of Evelpidon, the Agricultural School in Tiryntha, etc. and as it well known he was murdered on 27 September 1831 at the moment when he was entering in the church of Saint Spyridona.
At 25th of January 1833, Othonas, the first King of Greek, he landed in Nafplio. Nafplio stopped being the Capital of Greece with the R.D of 18/30 September 1834 that was signed by the Viceroy Armansberg Kompel and Eidek, which caused the inauguration of King Othonas to the new Capital of Athens.

Beautiful places in the world : Greece Palamidi fortress in Nafplio Aerial Video

Palamidi (Greek: Παλαμήδι) is a fortress to the east of the Acronauplia in the town of Nafplio in the Peloponnese region of southern Greece. Nestled on the crest of a 216-metre high hill, the fortress was built by the Venetians during their second occupation of the area (1686–1715).
The fortress was a very large and ambitious project, but was finished within a relatively short period from 1711 until 1714. It is a typical baroque fortress based on the plans of the engineers Giaxich and Lasalle. In 1715 it was captured by the Turks and remained under their control until 1822, when it was captured by the Greeks.
The eight bastions of the fortress were originally named after the Venetian provveditori. However, when it fell to the Ottoman Empire, the bastions were given Turkish names. Lastly, when the Greeks overthrew the Turks the bastions were renamed after ancient Greek leaders and heroes (Epaminondas, Miltiades, Leonidas, Phocion, Achilles, Themistocles. The two remaining bastions were named after St. Andrew (Agios Andreas) and the French Philhellene Robert who died in battle on the Acropolis of Athens. The Miltiades, was used as a prison and among its walls was also held Theodoros Kolokotronis, hero of the Greek Revolution.
The fortress commands an impressive view over the Argolic Gulf, the city of Náfplio and the surrounding country. There are 913 steps in the winding stair from the town to the fortress. However, to reach the top of the fortress there are over one thousand. Locals in the town of Nafplion will say there are 999 steps to the top of the castle, and specials can be found on menus that incorporate this number to catch a tourist's eye.
