Budapest is MAGICAL at night
Budapest is truly a magical city that stole my heart, specially at night! I have decided that maybe, just maybe the Hungarian Parliament Building is my favourite building in Europe. Yeah, I said it!
Thanks to my Hungarian friends Gabor and Gergo, I managed to see the highlights of this beautiful city: The Széchenyi Chain Bridge (The first bridge to connect Buda and Pest), The Buda Castle Complex (Hungarian National Gallery, The National Széchényi Library, Matthias Church and Fisherman's Bastion), the symbol of Budapest and my personal favourite - The Hungarian Parliament Building as well as St Stephens Cathedral which unfortunately there is no night video of due to low batt - a reoccurring theme of mine. The Fashion Street (yes, that is what the street is actually called) is to die for this time of year, full of lights and Christmas decorations - just breathtaking. I nearly cried at not being able to take videos to show you! Anyway.....if you to Budapest and you don't go in the night (yes, go see all of these things in the day then go back in the night or sacrifice seeing them in the day if you are truly pressed for time - it is worth it!), just know that you have committed a crime against this magical city and I will hold it against you forever, haha!
If you like this video, please give it a like, comment and subscribe. It would mean a lot to me. Thank you.

Budapest Butcher's secret art collection cut above the rest - le mag

He was a butcher and an art collector during Communist rule in Hungary - By day, Istvan Kövesi ran a kosher meat shop in Budapest, but his secret passion was collecting fine works of art.
Between 1960 and 1980 he bought 230 paintings. The collection includes a who's who of Hungary's finest 20th century artists and was only recently made public for the first time.
''It is easy to understand the reason why all collectors kept their art secret, because they were bought with money from their private businesses. During the Communist era really only the state-run shops and factories were allowed to collect. The private sector had only limited permission to do this. The richest people were usually taxi drivers, hairdressers, and small food and vegetable shopkeepers, like Istvan Kövesi with his meat shop, says the collection's Curator Tamas Kieselbach.
In order to buy such works, often costing more than 80 times his official monthly salary, Kövesi diverted money from his butcher's business, bypassing Budapest's official auction houses.
According to experts, that practice of buying and selling paintings outside the system still exists.
Speaking to euronews journalist Gábor Ács, art historian Peter Molnos said:
''Behind us you can see the only place where under Communism you could buy and sell paintings legally. But, collectors could walk next door to the Luxor cafe, exactly the same place where the gallery is located today, and they could make arrangements with private dealers over what they wanted to buy.''
But what prompted Kövesi to collect so many fine works?
One theory according to historians is the butcher tried to escape the everyday reality of Communism and his experiences both before and during the second world war through art.
''During the 1930s the so-called 'Jewish law' in Hungary meant Jews were restricted in what they could do. Kövesi was also deported to a Nazi death camp, but he survived. When he returned to Hungary his home was abandoned and everybody in his family had been killed in the Holocaust. Later he met a woman, who survived Auschwitz, and they married. After the Second World War Kövesi believed the suffering was over.

Best Hidden Places In Prague | Travel Guide
Prague is definitely NOT the place to avoid crowds of tourists. This jaw-droppingly beautiful city is popular for very good reason, but this video shows you more hidden places that are worth visiting.
Don't get me wrong, though, there are plenty of 'touristy' spots in Prague that deserve your time - people flock to them because they're unique! I have to mention some of my top picks. The Old Town Square is luscious and photogenic from every conceivable angle. The nearby astronomical clock has been ticking since 1410 and every hour on the hour you can see a show where the clock comes to life. It doesn't just measure the hours of the day either - there's a calendar that counts the days, months, and year as well as a zodiac ring that tracks the sun and moon in the sky. You really can't miss it. I'm also a big fan of the gigantic metronome on the opposite side of the river. It's 23 metres tall and sits atop a hill formerly occupied by a statue of Stalin. The relentless strokes of the metronome, and its significant location in the city, serve as a good reminder of the change that time can bring. Within view of the Prague metronome is the Charles Bridge, one of the most visited spots in the city. It's classic Prague and has been bridging the river since construction on it ended in 1402. At over 500 metres long, it's a wonderful walk that feels like a stroll through history - just beware of the pickpockets! Prague Castle is the most iconic spot in the city and is visible from miles around as it sits atop a hill. It's the largest ancient castle in the world and you can walk around the expansive grounds without paying an entry ticket. Budget bonus! It also affords a great view of the Old Town on the other side of the river.
Now for my favourite spots that are more hidden where you're less likely to run into hoards of tourists. Inside the front entrance of the Prague Municipal Library is an installation called Idiom. It's a tunnel made of 8000 books that's over 5 metres high and 2 metres wide. There are mirrors on each end which make the tunnel appear infinite when you peak inside. For anyone who loves books, this is a must see. Prague is full of salutes to Franz Kafka who was born there. The best is a moving sculpture of Kafka's head made up of 42 rotating layers. It turns round and round, briefly revealing the head's true shape before going to pieces again. It's a fitting tribute to Kafka's inner torment and very memorable. Another moving sculpture is outside the Franz Kafka Museum in a cute courtyard. It's a bronze fountain of two men who swivel around and pee to 'write out' Czech literary quotes. You can text a number and the fountain will 'write' your message too. It's controversial because the fountain basin is in the shape of the Czech Republic so the men are relieving themselves on the country itself. This definitely isn't the only mocking art in Prague - far from it! Hidden inside the passageway of the Lucerna Palace is a scultpure hanging from the ceiling. A man proudly rides an upside down dead horse. It's provocative and mocks a statue of King Wenceslas in nearby Wenceslas Square. One of the hardest gems to spot hangs above a busy Prague street. It's a sculpture of Sigmund Freud hanging from a pole and it looks very lifelike. I stared up at it at night and no one else took notice. Prague is full of tiny laneways but there's one that's so small it has its own traffic light. You press a button and wait for the light to change from red to green before you head up or down the skinny, one-way walking street. It's got to be one of Prague's cheapest thrills. Not too far away in a nondescript street is the so-called Lennon Wall which has been a place for Beatles-inspired graffiti since the first image of John Lennon was painted after his death in 1980. Though Police tried to whitewash it, people kept coming back and now it's a place for messages of love and peace. If you're looking for a cool and unique Prague souvenir then head to Botas 66 for a pair of Czech shoes. Botas was a sports shoe brand in Czechoslovakia that made an iconic sneaker called the Botas Classic in 1966 - hence the name of the store. The shoes got a reboot in 2008 by two designers who wanted to make the shoes over into stylish streetwear. Now Botas shoes are super popular and come in all sorts of colours and designs. It's a unique piece of history to take home on your feet.

NEMES Anna: Vannak
Várfok Galéria (1012 Budapest, Várfok u. 11.)
A kiállítás nyitva: 2017. 05. 05. – 06. 03., kedd - szombat 11 és 18 óra között.
Nemes Anna (1989, Budapest) 2014-ben végzett a Magyar Képzőművészeti Egyetem festő szakán, Bukta Imre osztályában.

Anna NEMES: They Are
VÁRFOK GALLERY
1012 Budapest, Várfok str. 11.
THURSDAY, 4th May, 2017., between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
The exhibition is open: 05. 05.– 03.06. 2017.,
Tuesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Anna Nemes (1989, Budapest) finished her studies in painting at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2014, where she was a member of Imre Bukta’s class. She joined the permanent artist circle of the Várfok Gallery in 2016, as its youngest artist. Previously, her works have been shown in various locations in both solo and joint exhibitions and have already found their way into the private ownership of Hungarian and International collectors.
Nemes’ work predominantly focusses on the appearance of the human body which is depicted naked and in an exceptional way. She uses the canvas, the brushes and the paint with peerless buoyancy in order to portray disabled people, body builders, relatives, or the reanimated anatomy of human body. The figures in her paintings may be shown in sensual or distressing positions or situations but always within an intimate atmosphere which the artist creates around them. However, mysterious secrets are kept from the viewer leaving space for reflection and interpretation.
The painting process is unusual and individual. Nemes’ technique is characterised by dissolving acrylic paint and applying it to the snow-white canvas with an unprecedented and eminent sensuality.
