SELF-GUIDED TOUR OF WAIHEKE ISLAND | NEW ZEALAND
New years eve took us finally to Waiheke Island to explore! We purchased a return ticket with a bus pass which would get us around for $45.
Definitely not the cheapest place to visit if you plan on staying for a few nights! To do Waiheke Island on a budget, take a packed lunch and maybe just treat yourself to an ice cream!

Top 5 Things to do in Waiheke - Auckland, New Zealand
One of the treasures of Auckland, we've had some of our best weekends away on Waiheke Island and now we share with you some of our favourite spots.
Starting with a bit of info on how to get to Waiheke we then head over to our activities.
Stop 1 - EcoZip Adventures - Beautiful in every way shape and form. This is one of the most fun ways to see wonderful Waiheke zooming over the top. The forest walk back to the top was absolutely amazing as well where your guide teaches you about New Zealand forestry.
Address: 150 Trig Hill Rd, Waiheke Island, Auckland 1081
Hours: Monday - Sunday 8am–5pm
Stop 2 - Ocean View Road - The main street of Waiheke Island hosts access to wonderful Oneroa beach as well as plentiful food spots and beach stores. Don't forget to stop off at Whittaker's Music Museum if you love historic instruments. It's a small cash donation for entry and make sure you call ahead to find out if there's a live performance on.
Located just off Oneroa road on:
Address: 2 Korora Rd, Oneroa, Auckland 1081
Hours: Hours: Monday - Sunday 1–4pm
Stop 3 - Waiheke beaches! Waiheke has some beautiful beaches. We stopped off at Oneroa beach but other fantastic spots are Palm Beach, Onetangi and Ostend.
Stop 4 - Experience a nature walk there are so many you can choose from. We walked little Oneroa to Fishermans rock which was a nice little trek with great views along the way.
Stop 5 - Mudbrick Restaurant and Vineyard, probably one of the most popular reasons people come to Waiheke is to experience a vineyard. If you're a lover of good food and wine this place is for you. We even manage to get a wine expert teach us the ropes during our wine tasting.
Address: 126 Church Bay Rd, Waiheke Island, Oneroa 1971
Hours: Monday - Sunday 0am–9pm

A Ferry Trip To Waiheke Island, Fullers ferry, Auckland city
A Ferry Trip To Waiheke Island, Auckland city
We had a one day trip to Waiheke Island in March to see Perpetual Guardian Sculpture on the Gulf 2019. It took only a 40-minute ferry from Downtown Auckland to the Island.
The information below is from the website
With pristine beaches, world class wines, and fantastic cuisine, it’s easy to see why Waiheke Island is considered the jewel in the Hauraki Gulf’s crown. Although only 35 minutes from Auckland, you’ll feel like you’re a world away as your browse through art galleries, sample award-winning olive oils and soak in stunning sea views.
With so much to do, there’s truly something for everyone on Waiheke Island and we’re very proud to have been voted one of the world’s Top 20 islands by Conde Nast Traveller in 2016, and included on Lonely Planet’s list of top 10 travel regions in 2015.
With regular ferry sailings, Waiheke is the perfect place to escape to for the day, or even just the afternoon. Once here though, it’s hard to leave, and our many beautiful accommodation venues offer the perfect solution.

Being able to go here is a dream come true. We spent our first day at Waiheke Island, about 40 mins away from Auckland by ferry. We visited a few beaches, shops, vineyards and did wine tasting at Mudbrick.
This place is stunningly amazing! I can't put into words how happy I am. Hope you will have fun and see what beauty I am talking about in this video ????
~I am trully happy and blessed from where I am right now. I wouldn't be here without the grace and blessings of the Lord. All praise and glory to Him.~

More information about Waiheke Island from Wikipedia
Waiheke Island is in the Hauraki Gulf of New Zealand. Its ferry-terminal in Matiatia Bay at the western end is 21.5 km (13.4 mi) from the downtown terminal in Auckland—measured on GPS by Fullers Ferry captains.
It is the second-largest island in the gulf, after Great Barrier Island. It is the most populated island in the gulf, with nearly 8,730 permanent residents plus another estimated 3,400 who have second or holiday homes on the island.
It is New Zealand's most densely populated island, with 95 people/km², and the third most populated after the North and South Islands. It is the most accessible island in the Gulf, with regular passenger and car ferry services, a Waiheke-based helicopter operator, and other air links.
In November 2015, Waiheke Island received international attention when it was rated the fifth best destination in the world to visit in 2016 by Lonely Planet and also voted the fourth best island in the world in the Condé Nast Best Islands in the World List.
The island is off the coast of the North Island. It is 19.3 km (12.0 mi) long from west to east, varies in width from 0.64 to 9.65 km (0.40 to 6.00 mi), and has a surface area of 92 km2 (36 sq mi). The coastline is 133.5 km (83.0 mi), including 40 km (25 mi) of beaches.
The port of Matiatia at the western end is 17.7 km (11.0 mi) from Auckland and the eastern end is 21.4 km (13.3 mi) from Coromandel. The much smaller Tarahiki Island lies 3 km (1.9 mi) to the east.
The island is very hilly with few flat areas, the highest point being Maunganui at 231 m (758 ft).[5] The climate is slightly warmer than Auckland, with less humidity and rain and more sunshine hours.
There are many scenic beaches, including:
Oneroa Beach – The main beach, on the northern side of the town of Oneroa.
Little Oneroa Beach – A small secluded beach at the east end of Oneroa Beach, separated by a protruding cliff wall.
Palm Beach – Similar in shape to Oneroa Beach (complete with protruding cliff wall at the east end that separates a small private beach in Boatshed Bay), it gets its name from the mature phoenix palms at the east end.
Little Palm Beach – A small clothes-optional beach at the west end of Palm Beach.
Blackpool Beach – The south-facing counterpart of Oneroa Beach, lining Blackpool and popular for kayaking and windsurfing.
Sand castle on Oneroa Beach.
Surfdale Beach – A zoned-in beach on the southern side of Surfdale, separated from Blackpool Beach by a small protruding peninsula, which has a scenic unsealed route called The Esplanade linking the beaches. Popular for kitesurfing.
Onetangi Beach – A 1.87-kilometre (1.16-mile) long, north-facing beach lining Onetangi. For many years it has been the site of the Onetangi Beach Races. Its western end, often inaccessible at high tide, is clothes-optional. It has sandcastle building contests annually; participants have a few hours to build their creations in soft sand that is free of shells and suitable for digging.
Cactus Bay – Considered by many Waihekeans as the most perfect beach and, with nearby Garden Cove, a romantic place for picnicking. The beach is accessible only by boat or kayak, as its land access was blocked off by a private landowner.
Shelly Beach – A small and well sheltered shell and stone beach located between Oneroa and Ostend. It has free BBQ facilities and a diving platform located just off shore. It's a popular choice with families as at high tide, it is often very calm and flat - ideal for children.
Hope you guys learnt something new! If you're still reading this far comment with that island life tho in the comments section!!!
