Sefa-utaki (斎場御嶽) is an historical sacred space and important site of the indigenous Okinawan religion, which, similar to Shinto, places emphasis on the worship of nature.
The site is located on a densely forested hillside along the ocean and features several rock formations, which are connected with each other by walking trails.
It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu in Nanjō, Okinawa.
In the early 16 th century, Sefa Utaki came into prominence.
During this period the Okinawan religion permeated under the royal government, and Sefa Utaki became one of the main locations for religious ceremonies and rituals.

Sefa Utaki is located on the southeastern side of Okinawa Honto, about 15 kilometers from Naha.
Via bus
From Naha Bus Terminal board bus number 38 to Sefa Utaki-mae (斎場御嶽前, 60 minutes, 830 yen, 1-2 buses/hour), from where the site can be reached in a 5-10 minute walk.

In Okinawa, there are many sacred places, “Utaki”, where rituals are held for gods and ancestors. One of them is the world heritage “Sefa Utaki” (Holiest Sites on Okinawa) in Nanjo City. What kind of place is the sacred place “Sefa Utaki” that is worshiped by many people today?
“Sefa Utaki” is located in Nanjo City, Okinawa Prefecture, about 45 minutes by car from Naha Airport. In 2000, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site as “Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu”. It is the highest holy place in the Ryukyu Kingdom that is said to have been created by the Amamikiyo god of the Ryukyu Kingdom.

I visited one of the world heritage site in Okinawa“Sefa Utaki“ yesterday.
Utaki means ‘sacred grove’ or ‘place of worship’ and there are utakis spread throughout Okinawa.
平成12年（2000年）12月に首里城跡などとともに「琉球王国のグスク及び関連遺産群」としてユネスコの世界遺産（文化遺産）に登録された斎場御嶽（せいふぁーうたきと読みます）。
沖縄に来たのであれば是非とも訪れるべき場所の１つです。
「斎場（せーふぁ）」は「最高位」を意味し、「斎場御嶽」は「最高の御嶽」ほどの意味となります。
15～16世紀の琉球王国・尚真王時代の御嶽であるといわれています。
今では男性も入る事が出来るのですが、かつて琉球の全ての御嶽は男子禁制であり、斎場御嶽では庶民は入口の御門口を越えて進入することは許されず、国王であっても、御門口より先に入るには袂の合わせを女装に改める必要があったようです。
斎場御嶽と一緒に訪れていただきたいのが
近くにある知念岬。公園として整備されていますが
眼下に広がる海の景色を堪能できます。
Cafe Curcuma & Ufuya - TOP 2 BEST Scenic Cafes & Restaurants in Okinawa [4k][UHD]
Among many restaurants and cafes, the following two restaurants are the BEST scenic place ever visited in Okinawa during our trip.
First, Cafe Curcuma is located uphill in the south of Okinawa (check the map in the video or the link below). You can see the beautiful ocean view in the cafe. They provide Thai food as well and were really good.
We also visited Ufuya in the north of Okinawa (check the map in the video or the link below). The interesting thing is that this place is more than 100 years old!. It was kind of like a small town, rather than just a restaurant.
Most reviews said that reservation is necessary but we were able to get in without any delay, Lucky us! Path to the restaurant was amazingly beautiful, and it was quite long tho. Its famous seat near the small fall was under construction so we couldn't get that but other seats were also great. We ordered the most popular foods in lunch - Pork Cutlet (20 orders/day limited) meal and Meat soba meal. The foods were definitely amazing. Surely recommend these two places

Shirumichu シルミチュー in Okinawa, Japan
Shirumichu シルミチュー is a cave located in the forest of south southeast Hamahiga jima. It is said that this place is where the Gods of the Ryukyus, Shirumichu and Amaichu, lived at the beginning of time.
It is at this place, around New Years, that noros (Okinawan Priestesses) come to pay their respects and pray. They often do this by brining small stones from the beach and placing them in a pot inside the cave. As you can see in the video below it seems that the tradition continues today.
This cave is also known to house a stone known as the female stone or fertility stone. Women and couples often visit the cave to pray for fertility.
The cave was designated a sacred site by the Japanese Government around 1918.

Sefa Utaki is on the Chinen Peninsula, and has been recognized as a sacred place since the earliest period of Ryukyuan history. According to Chūzan Seikan, this was the spot where Amamikyu, goddess of creation, made landfall on Okinawa. The shrine area itself comprises a number of caves and overhanging ledges opening to the east and south among towering rock formations of a high promontory over the sea. All buildings have been destroyed, but the outer and inner precincts can still be traced.
斎場御嶽（せーふぁーうたき／サイハノうたき）は現在の沖縄県南城市にある史跡。15世紀-16世紀の琉球國・尚真王時代の御嶽であるとされる。「せーふぁ」は「最高位」を意味し、「斎場御嶽」は「最高の御嶽」ほどの意味となり、これは通称である。正式な神名は「君ガ嶽、主ガ嶽ノイビ」という。
文字通り王国最高の御嶽とされ、国家の最高神職である聞得大君が管理した。聞得大君の就任儀式「御新下り（おあらおり）」が行われた御嶽でもある。かつて琉球の御嶽はその全てが男子禁制であり、斎場御嶽では庶民は入口の御門口（うじょーぐち）を越えて進入することは許されず、国王であっても、御門口より先に入るには袂の合わせを女装に改める必要があったという。
2000年12月、首里城跡などとともに「琉球王国のグスク及び関連遺産群」としてユネスコの世界遺産（文化遺産）に登録された。また、国の史跡、沖縄県指定名勝にも指定されており、御嶽内で出土した陶磁器と勾玉などは国の重要文化財（考古資料）に指定されている。
周囲の森林は沖縄本島南部に於けるもっとも優れた森林の一つで、シダ植物やラン科植物などに珍しいものが多い。本島中南部は第二次世界大戦において被害を受けそれ以前の状態を残した場所がほとんどないが、この地域は戦災を免れた。しかし幾つか艦砲弾着弾跡があり、一つは見学道から見ることが出来る。2000年代以降御嶽周辺が整備され、森林に荒廃の様子が見られる。
