Segway riding in Lisbon
This is Susan riding one of these remarkable Segway electric two wheel devices (apparently it cost US$100 million to develop and each one costs more than £5k, so they should be good!). You can see the famous tower at Belém, behind her during the video. This was shot on a half term break in February 2014. This machine was hired from some very nice people at the Monument to the Discoveries (a few hundred metres from this location). They really are very easy and instinctive to use. After about 8 minutes of excellent instruction, Susan was very confidently wizzing around on one, as the video shows. Can really recommend Lisbon for a holiday and also hiring a Segway for pottering about (Moving Free in Belém) and also doing a Segway tour of Lisbon (Lisbon by Segway).
Celebrity Eclipse Cruise Day 8 Lisbon, Portugal 6/9/18
Today we docked in Lisbon, Portugal and in the absence of a plan decided to take a 2 hour Tuk Tuk Tour of the Old City. This turned out to be a great idea as we saw so much in a short period of time.
After the tour, we explored the centre before heading up to Castelo de Sao Jorge, before heading back to the main square.
This video is a bit longer than the others but that's because there was so much to see and do. Enjoy!

Portugal Magnificent #1 (of 6): Walking in Lisbon
We returned to Portugal but now with more time available. We spent one full day in Lisbon when we walked the Praça do Comércio area (video 1) and we did a Segway Tour in the historic Lisbon (video 2). We have also been to Sintra, Belém and Porto.
The capital of Portugal, Lisbon (Portuguese: Lisboa) has experienced a renaissance in recent years, with a contemporary culture that is alive and thriving and making its mark in today's Europe. Perched on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean, Lisbon is one of the rare Western European cities that face the ocean and uses water as an element that defines the city. Lisbon enchants travelers with its white bleached limestone buildings, intimate alleyways, and an easy going charm that makes it a popular year round destination. Praça do Comércio: this magnificent plaza, facing the river, is the beginning of Lisboa's downtown. It is also known as 'Terreiro do Paço', meaning 'Grounds of the Palace', relating to its function before the Great Earthquake of 1755.
Belém: this monument-packed neighborhood is a must-see place.
Sintra is both a town and a municipality in the Lisbon Coast/aka Estoril Coast region of Portugal. Its spectacular setting, 28km from Lisbon, houses a Royal Palace, used by generations of Portuguese royalty prior to the 1910 revolution. The surrounding hills are surmounted by the remains of the Moorish Castle and by the nineteenth-century Pena Palace. Historic Sintra is an heritage patrimony sight declared by UNESCO. The Estoril coast is often considered to be part of the Lisbon coast, which includes Cascais, Lisbon, Sintra, and other nearby municipalities. Near Estoril, the majestic Sintra Mountains cast a veil of mystery over the town nestling on its northern slopes. The hills and the surrounding area have been classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage site both for their cultural significance and for their outstanding natural beauty. It includes the Pena park with Pena Palace (Palácio da Pena).

Portugal - Lisbon & Porto
Join us on our trip and you’ll get to know Portugal’s top cities in one weekend, with accommodation both in Lisbon and Porto, transportation, official guided tours in both cities, and much more!
Portugal’s second largest metropolis and one of Europe’s most charismatic cities, Porto is a beautiful and historically-rich city. Brimming with medieval relics, extravagant churches, and impressive architecture, the famous port wine won’t be the only thing you remember it for. We will see it all through our official tour of the city, and an official wine tasting of Porto’s most famous export! That night, join us on our pub-crawl to get a taste of the nightlife in the city. Finish the experience by visiting one of the many small cafes and restaurants that serve up some of the best homemade food you’ll ever taste during your free time!
A trip to Portugal would be incomplete without a visit to the country’s capital of Lisbon. Spread across seven hills overlooking the Rio Tejo, Lisbon offers all the delights you’d expect of Portugal’s star attraction, yet with half the fuss of other European capitals. Our official tour will walk us through the city to see the quaint museums, gothic cathedrals and majestic monasteries. Even though these sights are true beauties, the real delights of discovery lie in wandering the narrow lanes of Lisbon’s lovely backstreets. Don’t leave without catching a ride on one of the typical yellow trams, and visiting the music-filled Barrio Alto neighborhood. During the evening, join us as we indulge in a local dinner with live Fado music to have the true Portuguese experience!
