A video of my trip to Japan. It began by sitting on a bus for 26 hours but the wait was worth it.
Filmed in 4 different resorts:
Seki Onsen - Perfect resort for experienced skiers who are looking for light and deep powder.
Madarao - A resort which has a lot of bowls with good snow and steepish walls with a lot snow.
Akakura Onsen - A resort where if you skin or snow shoe a little bit you will access the best powder in Myoko.
Suginohara - The only day we didn't receive new snow so not much to tell about.
Filmed with:
Gopro Hero 3 Black Edition, Olympus Stylus 1, and Lumia 1020.
Edited with: Final Cut Pro X
Music: Changes, Original Mix - Faul
Seki Onsen w Tokyo Gaijins - Ilan Bluestone & Jerome Isma-Ae - Tension (Original Mix)
Was able to spend a day with great friends. Fun day at the tiny resort of Seki Onsen - part of the Myoko Kogen ski complex. We woke up to 2 feet of fresh powder.

Dyyyb puddersne er en normal ingrediens i Japan, men der er ikke mange steder den er lige så dyb som i Seki Onsen ved Myoko. Her giver ideen om snorkel rigtig god mening. Det er i øvrigt også i egnen hvor man kan være heldig at se sneaber.

The Myoko area of Niigata lies to the south of the prefecture in some serious snow country. On average, Myoko receives a colossal 13-metres of snow each year - more than anywhere else in the region. Off-piste access is unrivalled and, unlike other resorts, tree skiing is allowed, so expect dreamlike runs between snow-laden birches. Myoko is a must for powder seekers but also recommended for the stunning views and long runs. Already popular domestically, the area is becoming increasingly popular with international snow fans who desire a more authentic Japanese ski experience than Niseko in Hokkaido.
The Myoko area is made up of 5 ski resorts that are linked together by shuttle bus. The main ski area is Akakura Onsen which is made up of two resorts side by side; Akakura Kanko and Akakura Onsen. Suginohara ski resort features super long cruisy groomers and good side country, Seki Onsen is renowned for steep and deep tree skiing, Ikenotaira Onsen has good freestyle fun, and family-friendly slopes.
There’s something for everyone across the Myoko Kogen ski resorts although the area is most well known amongst powder hounds for the treed slopes, off-piste riding and long vertical. Some of the Myoko ski resorts also have epic side country and backcountry opportunities. Of course, Myoko Kogen is also famed for the abundant snowfall which results from its proximity to the Sea of Japan.

Just some bits from a trip to Japan Jan/Feb 2012. Seki Onsen actually got 1.5 meters of snowfall in the 24 hrs prior to our day there. The snow base was over 6 meters!! The snow was better than my riding skills but the video at least shows the awesome snow. The whole video was shot with a tiny little Camsports EVO HD. Worked even in -20 and colder. Pretty impressive camera, especially for its size.
