Battle of Sekigahara 1600 - Sengoku Jidai DOCUMENTARY
In the second half of the XV century, Japan entered a long period of crisis called the Sengoku Jidai or the Age of the Warring States. Ashikaga Shogunate lost its authority and the clan leaders - daimyos divided the islands into 400 small feudal holdings. Three military leaders - Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu started their struggle to consolidate Japan in the XVI century and it all culminated at the battle of Sekigahara fought in 1600 between alliances led by Tokugawa Ieyasu and Ishida Mitsunari. The battle decided the next 250 years of the Japanese history

____________
After Toyotomi Hideyoshi passes from old age, control of Japan passes to his young son - or more accurately, to his council of advisors. Tokugawa Ieyasu, the most powerful among them, looks poised to seize power for himself, but a rival named Ishida Mitsunari plots against him. After his first treacherous plot is discovered and foiled, Ishida joins with Uesugi Kagekatsu to mount a campaign against Tokugawa. An old friend, Torii Mototada, gives his life to counter the campaign and buys Tokugawa enough time to defend himself. The defection of the Kobayakawa clan from Ishida broke this opposition once and for all, leaving Tokugawa in uncontested control of Japan. Though he became shogun, Tokugawa ruled for only two years before passing succession to his son, establishing for the first time not only a stable shogun but a stable chain of succession, and bringing Sengoku Jidai period to an end in Japan.

The battle is one of the most famous of all Samurai engagements in Japan’s long history steeped with mystery, betrayal, heroic deeds and acts of barbarism.

Sekigahara 關ヶ原の戰い 2015
October 11, 2015 - Battle of Sekigahara reenactment...
Sekigahara is a town at an ancient cross-roads in the mountains of central Japan. It is located in old Mino Province, in modern-day Gifu Prefecture.
During the Edo Period, Sekigahara-juku was the 58th station on the old Nakasendo highway. It was commemorated by the artist Hiroshige in the series of prints known as The Sixty-nine Stations of the Nakasendō.
Because of its location as an ancient cross-roads, Sekigahara was the site of many battles, including the Battle of Sekigahara... in October 1600, the army of eastern Japan, under the command of Tokugawa Ieyasu, defeated the army of western Japan, putting an end to the Sengoku-jidai, or Warring States Period. The battle is remembered as the beginning of a long period of peace in Japanese history, sometimes known as Pax Tokugawa.
Today, the famous battle is commemorated yearly with a festival that includes a costumed reenactment of the battle.
Samurai Battle Fest - Siege of Hachigata Castle, Yorii 寄居北條まつり
The Siege of Hachigata Castle in 1590 is merely a footnote in the grand campaign of Toyotomi Hideyoshi to teach the haughty Hojo Clan of Odawara to respect his authority as the strongest leader in medieval Japan. However, in the town of Yorii they make it a big deal with a battle festival where they fire makeshift canons and have people dressed in armor battling each other with soft-tipped spears.
It's a fun festival held every Spring. In the past it seems it was in April now it seems the second Sunday of May but don't quote me on that. Definitely worth checking out though!

___________
With Oda Nobunaga dead, Japan hangs in the balance. His old retainer, Tokugawa Ieyasu, must flee for his life from the usurper Akechi Mitsuhide. He narrowly escapes with the help of his ninja ally Hattori Hanzo, but Oda's heir is not so lucky: Akechi assassinates him. With power up for grabs, Toyotomi Hideyoshi sweeps into Kyoto and destroys the usurper, then appoints a puppet heir to replace Oda Nobunaga while he truly rules Japan. Toyotomi, today known as a great unifier whose reign is called the Momoyama Period, enacts three policies to reinstate taxes, eliminate banditry, and instill a rigid social caste system. He succeeds in restoring national civil government to Japan, signalling the beginning of the end for the Sengoku Jidai. But Tokugawa Ieyasu waits in the wings...

Samurai Warriors Spirit of Sanada (pt88) Extra (Battle of Sekigahara)
Like the main series, Spirit of Sanada explores and romanticizes the Sengoku period of Japan, a period of political and military conflict involving the daimyo and their clans raising armies to fight against each other for power.
While the main series features multiple viewpoints involving different factions, Spirit of Sanada focuses on one particular clan, the Sanada, who are led by Masayuki and his sons, Nobuyuki and Yukimura during the Sengoku period.
The game's timeline is roughly 54 years (from 1561 to 1615) and follows different incarnations of the main characters, who are aged up accordingly.
The game retains the basic hack and slash play of the main series.
The player controls a character through a specific battlefield against an army of enemy soldiers with the ultimate objective of killing the enemy's commander, although the player will be encouraged to complete side objectives that will raise the morale of the player's allies or acquiring rewards.
Spirit of Sanada reuses the engine of Samurai Warriors 4 and its expansions and retains that game's play style and features.
New features added include the addition of long-term battles, which are divided into several separate skirmishes affected by a day-and-night cycle that the player need to clear.
A mechanic called Stratagems is added, which allows the player to use a gimmick midway through the battle to aid the player's cause, such as calling reinforcements or building bridges.
Stratagems requires Sanada Coins, obtained by meeting several conditions throughout the game or collected in the new Castle Town format.
The game also revamps the menu system, when the player starts a playthrough, they are given immediate control of their chosen character, albeit in a hub area called the Castle Town.
There, the player can access Story Mode, Gallery, and other modes by interacting with the environment, such as talking with the NPCs.
The player can also do other activities such as purchasing horses, exploring the outskirts to face enemies and collect items, or go fishing to gather valuable materials or form bonds with other officers.
The game uses a Full 3D Map of the Warring States period of Japan for situational explanations.
By moving the camera across the map, players are able to view the lands where battles have been held from various angles.

Now that he holds Kyoto, Oda Nobunaga finds himself the focus of enemies on all sides. Even the Shogun, who no longer needs his military assistance, turns against him. Oda marches north to quell the Asakura clan, only to be betrayed by the Azai clan leader, his own brother-in-law, who allies with his enemy and embroils Oda and his remaining true ally, Tokugawa Ieyasu, in the Battle of Anegawa. No sooner has he won a narrow victory than Oda launches into in an eleven year siege with the Ikko-ikki warrior monks at their mountain temple of Hongan-ji. Unable at first to turn that siege in his favor, he learns from it when facing a second group of Enryaku-ji warrior monks at Mount Hiei. Oda shows his true brutality by setting fire to the temple and ordering his troops to massacre all 20,000 inhabitants - men, women, and children.
