The porini camps were set up with the goal of working together with rural landowners and communities living alongside Protected Areas with the objective of running a viable business that enables the community to derive benefits in return for conserving wildlife and the indeginous habitat. Your stay at the Porini Camps makes a direct contribution to the local communities and conservation

Amboseli Masai Village Visit
I visited a Maasai Village (written Masai in title cause people get it wrong) to understand if tourism is good or bad for these people.
It turn out it is an inevitable need for change. Kenya (and it's National Parks) are undergoing radical changes. The once Nomadic Maasai people are foreced to settle and rely on Tourism income to cover the overgrazing issue. We will talk more about this in the future.
In this video we meet the chiefs oldest son who takes us around his village and shows us the daily life of the Maasai People of Amboseli National Park. Get some insight into the maasai culture and enjoy the singing and dancing of these incredible people.
You can visit this village yourself - speak to your camp manager at Tortilis Camp in Amboseli National Park - (by the Elewana Collection)

Amboseli Kenya Ilmarba Primary School Donation Ceremony June 6, 2011
When it takes hours to days to describe an experience it usually means it was heartfelt in the truest sense. These are life gifts, and the Donation Ceremony that took place on June 6, 2011 at Ilmarba Primary School in Amboseli, Kenya was such an occasion. Hitachi, Mitsubishi and Rock Plant collaboratively donated funds supporting education for over 350 Maasai students (K-12).

Porini Rhino Camp main lodge review - #GMClivereviews
Porini Rhino Camp, Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya:
We love this small and intimate eco- camp, located within Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a vast 90000-acre wildlife area between the Aberdares and the majestic Mount Kenya. The conservancy is home to a variety of animals including the “Big Five”. It is the largest sanctuary in East Africa for the endangered Black Rhino and is also a sanctuary for rescued chimpanzees.
Porini Rhino Camp is in a secluded valley, on the banks of a seasonal river and under the shade of acacia trees. The camp consists of just seven spacious and comfortable guest tents, each having been carefully sited to take advantage of the wonderful surrounding views. Each tent is tastefully furnished and has solar-power lighting and ensuite hot shower and flush toilet. The camp is specially designed to have minimum environmental impact (with no permanent structures and using eco-friendly fuel).
Porini Rhino Camp is helping accomplish the Conservancy’s aims of generating profits from wildlife tourism for reinvesting into community development in the local area. The camp staff is drawn from different Kenyan communities including members of the Maasai community from our conservancy projects at Selenkay in Amboseli and Olkinyei and Olare Motorogi in the Mara. The camp adheres to strict eco-friendly and responsible eco tourism principles.

My Amboseli experience and why you need to go there
It was a beautiful evening. The sky was blue and the sun like a glowing medallion was shining brightly, creating a perfect time for an evening escapade.
I could hardly wait to watch the sunset from the highest point of the unique Amboseli National Park.
As we drove through the safari trails, I was amazed at the God given beauty of a flat land enriched with numerous species of creatures and features.
With an ecosystem that extends from Kenya to Tanzania, Amboseli is uniquely the ideal point of viewing the highest free-standing mountain in the world – Mt Kilimanjaro.
Its distinctiveness is further anchored on the big skies and patch like water bodies of swamps surrounded by far horizons.

Becoming an elder in the Maasai community
The Maasai community is one of the few communities known for preserving their culture for years. Occasions such as child birth, circumcision, marriage and transition to become an elder are taken seriously in this community. But just how does one become an elder? Beatrice Gatonye Ngetich reports.
