OUR PLANET PART 1 | Dolomiti from Passo Gardena to Passo Sella | 6K
The Dolomites from Sella Pass to Gardena Pass filmed in 6K 60 FPS. Cinematic drone footage.
Skiing, hikes, nature parks, peace and serenity, a stunning natural beauty, legends and tales - countless images come to our minds when thinking about the Dolomites. The famous Three Peaks of Lavaredo date back some 200 millions of years and the mountains of the Dolomites arouse 40 millions of years ago. The pale Dolomite limestone gave these Pale Mountains their name. And still today, valuable fossils may be found on the high peaks.
The Sassolungo Group with its round shape stretches from the Sella Group to the rocky ridges of the Catinaccio massif. The highest summit, name-giving Mt Sassolungo, boasts an altitude of 3,181 m. Together with its southwestern peak it covers almost half of the entire Sassolungo Group.
The mountain massif, originally a coral reef, is well-known both in summer and in winter: Mt Sassolungo and Mt Sasso Piatto boast several climbing routes and hiking paths, such as the Via Ferrata Oskar Schuster and the Friedrich August Path. Furthermore, a cable car connects Passo Sella with the Sassolungo ridge at 2,681 m asl, ideal starting point to walk around the mountain.
The view of Mt Marmolada and the Alpe di Siusi is simply breath-taking! In winter, skiing areas such as Plan de Gralba, Monte Pana and Ciampinoi (with the famous Saslong World Cup slope) are located at the foot of the Sassolungo Group. Also the Sella Ronda passes by.
The Passo Gardena proceeds from Selva di Val Gardena to Colfosco, which is part of the municipality of Corvara and with 1,645 m asl. the highest located holiday resort of Alta Badia. A little below the Passo Gardena, findings from the Stone Age were made, a driveway up to the mountain pass was built in 1915, during World War I.
The Passo Sella connects Selva di Val Gardena with Canazei in the Val di Fassa valley. The Passo Sella road is 53.4 km long, the altitude readings are a bit varying: at the top of the pass, the Passo Sella is stated with 2,240 m asl.
Already in the Stone Age the area was settled as several findings prove. In 1872 the mountain pass road was built, three mountain huts followed which are still opened: at the top of the pass the Passo Sella Mountain Hut is located, which dates back to 1903, the Carlo Valentini Mountain hut, the oldest hut of the area (1884) and the Maria Flora Tavern (1934).
The first lifts were built in the middle of the 20th century. Like the Passo Gardena, also the Passo Sella is one of the mountain passes of the Sellaronda (around the Sella Massif on skis and the 4 passes cycle tour). The hiking paths proceed around the Sassolungo, to the col Rodella or the Meisules Via Ferrata (Pößnecker Klettersteig). The lift facilities lead you towards the Rif. Toni Demetz mountain hut and Punta Grohmann crest. In summer 2017 for the first time the pass was closed to traffic once a week for conservation purposes.
The alpine world on the Passo Gardena is awesome: to the south the massy Sella Group, the Cir Peaks in the Puez Group with the Puez-Odle Nature Park to the north, the Sassolungo Group to the west and to the east the peaks of the Val Badia valley with the legendary Fanes Group. On the ridge, several brooks have their source, one of them is the Rio Frea which flows into the Rio Gardena.
In the middle of the 20th century, the Passo Gardena became relevant for tourism. In 1960 the first road was built, afterwards lift facilities and hiking paths followed. Today the Passo Gardena is one of the four mountain passes of the Sellaronda (a round on skis in winter and a four-passes cycle tour in summer). Moreover hikes into the Dantercepies Valley, to the Alta Via no. 2 or to the Pisciadù Via Ferrata, to mention but a few, start at the mountain pass.

Campitello di Fassa Sella Ronda review 2018 & 2019 4k
Campitello di Fassa is one of the best options to sleep in the majestic sella ronda ski area, the best and largest ski area in Italy.
.
Sleeping in Campitello can save you up to €200 per week if you compare the bill to its
more famous neighbouring ski resorts like Selva Gardena or Corvara.
As you would expect, there are some compromises to staying in the Campitello area. But
don’t worry, because if you stay until the end of this video, I will give you some hints and
tips on how to avoid the cons of Campitello.
Campitello di Fassa is located in Trentino, in the Fassa valley.
The closest airports to Campitello are:
- Verona with a transfer time of 2 hours and 33 minutes
- Treviso and Innsbruck, each with a transfer time of 2 hours and 48 minutes
- and Venice and Brescia with transfer times of 2 hours and 52 minutes and 2 hours and
58 minutes, respectively.
The village altitude is 1,448 meters and the 120-passenger Colrodella cable car will take
you from there to the Colrodella peak, approximately 1 km higher, in less than 7
minutes.
The famous Sella Ronda carousel is named after Groupo Sella, a chain of table
mountains in the middle of the ski area.
Sella Ronda means “the circle around Sella mountains”.
Sella means “Saddle” in Italian.
Sella Ronda is considered by many as the most beautiful ski area in the world.
The circle is about 26 km in diameter, and is actually comprised of 2 circles:
one clockwise, marked in orange and the other counterclockwise, marked in green.
Most of the slopes in the circle are short and there is a lot of lifts time (Clarify meaning
here please). – meaning that there are short runs and many chairlift in the route, so relatively you spend a lot of time sitting in ski lifts
Our advice is to use it as a kind of a conveyor that leads you easily to explore the 4 ski
areas combined in this huge ski area: Val Gardena; Alta Badia; Arabba-Marmolada, and
Val di Fassa itself.
The whole area combined is comprised of 530km of connected ski runs, thus making it
the 3rd largest in the world after Portes de Soleil and Three Valleys.
For this you have to get the Superskidolomiti ski pass, which includes a total of 1200 km
of slopes including Courtina di A'mpezzo, Kronplatz and many other ski resorts as well.
For beginners Val di Fassa ski pass will be enough. The borders of Val di Fassa in the
ski area is in Passo Pordoi in the east and Passo Sella in the north.
One of the big cons of Campitello are the lines in the morning to the Colrodella lift as it
was the first lift for people coming from lower Val di Fassa, that connect to the Sella
Ronda.
What most people don’t know is that three years ago, a new wind resistance cable car
was opened in Alba di Canazei.
The new lift connected the Belvedere ski area to Campiac ski area, thus actually
connecting Pozza di Fassa to the Sella Ronda ski area.
The new lift made the lines more bearable as the same number of people now use 3 lifts
instead of 2.
We still recommend to come to the Colrodella either before 9 or after 10 o'clock in the
morning, otherwise you’ll spend at least half an hour waiting in line.
Campitello has modest nightlife so it's a good idea on this vacation not to stay out too
late. Instead, wake up early and ride the lift at 8:30, before the queues build up.
It's also a good tip to get out in the morning because you have a very long ski trips in
this ski area and you don't want to be stressed out not coming back to your valley
before the lifts are closed.
Regarding the modest nightlife in Campitello, you can still enjoy the nightlife in the
center of Canazei which is a 30-minute walk from the center of Campitello or a 20 euro,
5 minute drive in a cab.
In Dolomiti hotel, at the heart of Canazei you will find Ceaser's Keller (???? confirm? Is
this Keller or ‘cellar’? can’t find on Google)- it is pronounced Keller which is the best club in the valley, and
usually packed every night around midnight.
Another con of Campitello is that there is no skiing to the village.
Our tip here is, instead of standing in line for the Colrodella on the way back, pay a visit
to Refugo des Alps, maybe not the best aprés ski bar in the world but probably the one
with the best views.
Getting a Bombardino, the local liqueur, and watching the sun painting the mighty cliffs
of Sella Ronda, as it descends?( the sun decents) Priceless!
Actually, the last lift that goes back is the last lift going down with the drinkers of Refugo
des Alps.
Another way to finish the day is to ski down to neighbouring Canzei, doing aprés ski in
paradise and taking the last ski bus to campitello after 6:30pm.
To conclude, these are our ratings for Campitello:

Dolomiti 2019 | The Dolomites, Italy. Spring 2019. 4K / 5k Drone Video
Cinematic Aerial Drone Video of the Dolomiti Mountains filmed in the Spring of 2019 in 6K UHD Resolution. We suggest to watch it at 5K Resolution on Youtube to appreciate all the stunning details of this World Heritage Location.
Mainly filmed at Passo Sella and Passo Gardena.
The The Sella Pass in English or Sellajoch in German, at a height of 2218 m is a high mountain pass between the provinces of Trentino and South Tyrol in Italy. It connects the Val Gardena in South Tyrol and Canazei in the Fascia Valley in Trentino.
With Pordoi Pass, Gardena Pass, and Campolongo Pass, this pass forms a quadrangle around the Sella group. In the winter, ski trails are prepared that make the entire round in both directions, known as the Sella Ronda. The Sella Pass is the third of seven Dolomites mountain passes riders cross in the annual Maratona dles Dolomites single-day bicycle race. It is also on the route of the Dolomites Gold Cup Race.
Gardena Pass in English or Grödnerjoch in German is a high mountain pass in the Dolomites of the South Tyrol in northeast Italy.
At an elevation of 2,136 m (7,008 ft) above sea level, the pass connects Selva in the Val Gardena on the west side with Corvara in the Val Badia. The road over it comprises part of the famous Sella Ring, in which four linked passes encircle the spectacular Sella group. The route becomes busy with tourists, motorcyclists, and cyclists during the summer. There are tourist accommodations on the pass itself, and hikers visit the pass to access the dramatic Dolomite mountains.
Featured is also the amazing Sassolungo or Saslonch or Langkofel
(3,181m). It is the highest mountain of the Langkofel Group in the Dolomites. The name translates to long peak / long rock in all three languages. It stands over the Ladin community of Val Gardena.
The Dolomites In Italy, a 6K Ultra HD footage was filmed with a DJI Zenmuse X7 camera and the Apple ProRes RAW codec.
As always, all the footage has no planning whatsoever, it is just shot on the fly and edited as quick as possible to be posted.
The Dolomites well deserve to be in the UNESCO's list of World Heritage Sites. It's a mesmerizing, ancient and mystical location, where you can enjoy nature at its best. It is one of those places that makes you understand why Italy is such a famous place for tourism.
