Sembuwaththa Lake is located in the premises of Elkaduwa tea plantation. Elakaduwa is situated about 14 kilometers away from Matale town and 150 - 160 Kilometers from Colombo. If you are coming from Colombo take the right turn at the Elwala junction which meet before 3 - 4 Kilometers from Matale Town. The road will take you directly to Elkaduwa and take left turn towards down the hill at Elkaduwa town. There are few turns from Elkaduwa to Sembuwaththa lake. It's better to ask from villager for correct directions. The road is not in good condition from Elkaduwa to Sembuwaththa. Four wheel vehicle is the Best choose for tackle hard parts of the journey. Anyway It's possible to reach there by any vehicle such as Car, Van, Tuk Tuk or Motorbike, If you are driving very carefully.
There is a ticket counter at the entrance of Tea factory. The Tea factory is belongs to Elkaduwa estate but not functioning currently. Ticket costs 150 Rupees per person seems to be too much.
There is about 1 - 2 kilometers travel to Sembuwaththa lake from the Ticket counter. The lake situated at the top of the hill. Vehicles are allowed to go up there. The lake surrounded by Tea fields and Pinus plantation. It is not recommended to bath at lake since the lake is seems to be so muddy. There is a great swimming pool to bath at other end of the lake. It's feeding by natural water stream.
The surround view is amazing from the top of the hill. Summer huts and kids play points has built around the lake. Great place to spent a day away from rush world and feel the nature.

Sempuwatta lake| Beautiful Sri Lanka
In the Matale District of Central Province a man made reservoir attracts tourists to adore its scenic view. According to Google, Sembuwaththa Lake is nearly 170km from the capital city of the Island, Colombo and 22km from Matale town. The lake is located in the Elkaduwa tea estate. The travellers have to pass the hard turning roads between Elkaduwa town and Sembuwaththa Lake.
Adorable scenic view of the lake never retards to imprint in the minds of visitors. The lake is at the top of the hill and the tourists can reach the lake by vehicle. But if you are interested in hiking then the venue suits you too. The Sembuwatta Lake is belongs to Elkaduwa tea estate and also maintained by the same. The travellers have to get the entrance ticket for the lake at the entrance of tea estate factory. There is a distance of (nearly) 2km from the estate entrance to the lake. According to the villagers the area of lake was used as golf course by the British at that time and later they made the area as Sembuwatta Lake. Although it is a manmade Lake, it was originated from natural spring water. As the lake was deeper, to more than 30feet it is not advisable to bath. To convince the tourists there is a natural swimming pool feed by natural spring water is located at the one end of the lake.
Sembuwaththa Lake ????????
සෙම්ඹුවත්ත is a tourist attraction situated at Elkaduwa in the Matale District of Sri Lanka, adjacent to the Campbell’s Lane Forest Reserve. Sembuwatta Lake is a man-made lake created from natural spring water. Alongside the lake is a natural swimming pool.
Sembuwatte lake is about 20 KM away from the city. After a rough one hour drive from kandy we reached sembuwatte estate without a single scratch. Road was narrow till the top. But we travelled their by our vehicle. Tuk tuk's were available if you do not wish to go the distance by your vehicle. Price from half way to the top and comeback in a tuk tuk is 1500 LKR. They go fast and easy on narrow roads. And the entrance fee for a local is 200LKR while they charge 1000LKR from a foreigner.
The scenary was amazing on the top. A beautiful lake surrounded by pines trees, mountains and tea plants. Few manmade huts were availble around the lake. If you are going to spend the day, you should bring food and water since there was no shop nearby. And please do not litter this beautiful place. There was a pool on the top. It was under construction at the time we visited. All in all, we managed to spend a day in a beautiful environment

Hunnasgiriya Waterfall Hunas Falls Sri Lanka ???????? හුනස්ගිරිය දියඇල්ල
Hi guys, hope you are doing well. Today I will be taking you to a waterfall in central province. Hunas Falls, which is situated in Elkaduwa, Matale, is one of the beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka.
First of all I don’t know why people are spelling it as ‘Hunas Falls’, because the actual pronunciation is ‘Hunnas Falls’, short for ‘Hunnasgiriya Waterfall’. Anyhow, I will also use the word ‘Hunas Falls’.
According to Wikipedia, the waterfall is 125ft high and created from a stream from Hunnasgiriya Peak.
How to Reach…?
As I have already mentioned, the Hunas Falls is situated in Elkaduwa Village. If you are coming from Kandy, there are about 25km and if you are coming from Matale, there are about 21km. Either way, you have to travel about 3km off the road to reach the waterfall. Refer below map for the exact location.
And the waterfall is situated on the way from Kandy to Sembuwatta Lake, an amazing place to visit (I will be talking about it soon).
You can go close to the waterfall by vehicles and from there you have to walk a little. There is a vehicle park at the entrance. And you will have to buy an Entrance ticket.
Kallebokka - 360 View Point | Sri Lanka | Young Traveller
Kallebokka Viewpoint (height 1,175m) is one of the best viewpoints in Sri Lanka. It gives a magnificent 360 degree view of Kandy, Matale, Knuckles Mountain Range, Sembuwatta Lake, Huluganga valley, Hunnasgiriya, Makulussa Mountain, and Dumbara Mountain range etc. The viewpoint is located between Kabaragala and Madolkele. This is the highest peak of Kallebokka estate. As the location of this estate is in the boundary of the Kandy and Matale Districts, you can reach here by both Mathale (26km) and Kandy (32km) directions.
--- Directions from Kandy
Katugastota ▶ Madawala ▶ (Bambarella Rd) ▶ Madulkelle ▶ Kabaragala ▶ Kandenuwara
--- Directions from Matale
Drive down the Kandy road for about 1.5 km and turn left to Kabaragala road. And then,
Madulkelle ▶ Kabaragala ▶ Kandenuwara
If you are going by bus, go to Wattegama and take the Kabaragala bus.
The scenic view of the Mathale to Kabaragala route is much better. However, the last 06km to reach the top is a bit difficult. You can either hire a threewheeler or use bikes or 4WD. Cars are not recommended.

Ashburnham Tea Estate - Travel Sri Lanka with the TLC
Ashburnham (or Ash) breaks the mould a little from other Sri Lanka tea estate hotels. It’s more of a boutique guesthouse and quietly proud of it – rightly so.
It’s set in its own gorgeous 100-acre tea estate, around an hour north-east of Kandy, in the heart of Sri Lanka’s Cultural Triangle. The estate boasts stunning waterfalls and beautiful views up to and across the Knuckles Mountains, not to mention around 60 acres of lush tea fields, plucked each day.
The house has a funkier edge than most estate bungalows. It very much retains, though, its 1930’s planter heritage. You’ll soak that up with sundowners on the terrace or by the ‘Aga Bar’.
A lot of guests are very happy to stay put – exploring the estate, swimming under waterfalls, mountain biking, having guided tours of the tea fields with Mr Das, Ashburnham’s estate manager. Aravinda, the resident naturalist, leads fascinating walks and treks around the local area and if you built up an appetite with all that exercise join Reggie who offers a wonderful cooking class in his own unique style.
Ashburnham is great for couples, families and for those heading out on honeymoon in Sri Lanka.
Those staying more than a couple of nights as part of a longer Sri Lanka holiday you might like to head off for a day and visit Sri Lanka's attractions. From Ash you can comfortably reach…
Kandy – Botanical Gardens, Temple of the Tooth, Udawattakele Forest, Sigirya – the ancient rock fortress, Dambulla – stunning cave temples, Wattegama – down the hill for Ayurvedic massage.
The Grand Mountain Hotel, Matale
The Grand Mountain Hotel is located in Matale, a picturesque town in The Central Province of Sri Lanka almost perfectly halfway between Kandy and Dambulla. The two major cities and all major attractions in both cities are within easy reach of 20-minute drive in opposite directions from the hotel. The International Airport is just a 3-hour drive via Kurunegala. The property is spread out over 10 acres and the tranquility and charm of the hotel resort gives its visitors peace of mind, far from the maddening crowds, allowing them to enjoy the pristine nature despite being located in the city centre.
