ABOUT SEMENGGOH ORANGUTAN REHABILITATION CENTRE:
Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is the largest Orangutan sanctuary in Sarawak (Southern part of Malaysian Borneo). It is one of the few places in the world where you can see Orangutans in a semi-wild environment. A unique experience!
The park, that is more than 700 hectares in size, is home to a total of around 30 orangutans, all varying in age. They can roam freely through the park and will be placed back into the wild once they are ready.
The orangutans are fed twice a day, around 9:00 am and around 3:00 pm. During feeding times, you’ll have the greatest chance of spotting the animals, as they will descend from the trees and head to the special feeding areas.
Semenggoh is located about 24 kilometers from Kuching city, and can easily be reached by bus, taxi or car. The center is open every day from 8.00 am to 12.30 pm and from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm.
A visit to Semenggoh Wildlife Centre should definitely be on your Borneo Trip Itinerary!

My focus will always be on the culture, food and of course the local people of everywhere I travel to! ???? Semenggoh Wildlife Centre Kuching - Meet Orang Utan Ritchie
Semenggoh Wildlife Centre is located at Semenggoh, 13th mile Jalan Puncak Borneo, Kuching, Sarawak. It is around 40 minutes drive from the city centre.
It is a natural reserve with many different type of flora and fauna, including many rare bird species and the famous ground for Orang Utans.
The best time to visit Semenggoh is during the morning and afternoon feeding sessions when there is a good chance of seeing semi-wild orang utan returning to the Centre for a free meal.
Feeding takes place between 9.00-10.00am and between 3.00-3.30 pm.
Although there are many Orang Utan in the Reserve, but they don't come out everytime. Since they are semi-wild, you can't force them to appear. You will be in luck if Orang Utan came out for feeding at your first visit.
During this visit we are lucky to meet the dominant (alpha) male Orang Utan - Ritchie. Ritchie is the boss of the 26 orangutans living in the reserve.

???? SEMENGGOH ORANG UTAN CENTRE | Kuching, Borneo, Malaysia
One of the most famous attractions in Kuching on Borneo is the Semenggoh Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre. It’s just 20-30 minutes outside the city and you can easily go there by bus or by a Grab Taxi. So it’s perfect for a short day trip.
Like the name says, it’s a rehabilitation centre for orangutans but what makes it special is that the orangutans are not in cages, but live completely free in the jungle. They are raised in Semenggoh and then let free. So they only come there to get some food and see what this weird human crowds are doing there ;-)
On my trip I saw a baby orangutan and his mother at first. That was a very nice experience but I wanted to see more. So I went back to Semenggoh in the afternoon and saw some bigger orangutans, which was even better as they came pretty close.
Overall a visit to the Semenggoh Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre is a nice experience and can definitely recommend the trip to everyone who goes to Kuching!
PS: The next video is about my visit in the Bake Nationalpark, close to Kuching. So don’t forget to subscribe!

Semenggoh Wild Life Centre | Kuching | Borneo #Vlog ????????
For over 20 years, the wardens here trained young orangutans, who had been orphaned or rescued from captivity, how to survive in the wild. The success of this programme has left the surrounding forest reserve with a thriving population of healthy adolescent and young adult orang utans, who are now breeding in the wild. The programme has been transferred to Matang Wildlife Centre, but Semenggoh is still home to its successful graduates, semi-wild orang utans and their babies. They spend most of their time roaming the forest but frequently come back to the Centre for a free meal. If it is the fruiting season in the forest, some or even all of them may not come to feed. This in itself is a good sign and another step on the way to full rehabilitation. The best time to visit Semenggoh is during the morning and afternoon feeding sessions when there is a good chance of seeing semi-wild orang utan returning to the Centre for a free meal. Feeding takes place between 9.00-10.00am and between 3.00-4.00 pm. . . .
