Semmozhi Poonga ( Classical Language Park) is a Botanical Garden in Chennai. Set up jointly by the Horticulture and Agriculture Engineering Department of Tamilnadu.
The Garden was Opened on 24 November 2010 by then Chief Minister Dr.M.karunanidhi, and is the First Botanical Garden in the city.
The garden is located in the Cathedral Road-Annasalai Junction,Teynampet.
People usually gather at semmozhi Poonga to get relaxed and breath fresh air. Especially during weekend days the crowd will be very high.

Chennai, on the Bay of Bengal in eastern India, is the capital of the state of Tamil Nadu. The city is home to Fort St. George, built in 1644 and now a museum showcasing the city’s roots as a British military garrison and East India Company trading outpost, when it was called Madras. Religious sites include Kapaleeshwarar Temple, adorned with carved and painted gods, and St. Mary’s, a 17th-century Anglican church.
1.Marina Beach:
India’s largest beach happens to be Chennai’s Marina Beach which extends from Fort St. George to Besant Nagar.The average width of the beach is 300 m (980 ft) and the width at the widest stretch is 437 m (1,434 ft).
2.Kapaleeshwar Temple:
Apart from being a religious spot, what draws crowds to this temple is its unique architecture. The detailed Gopuram of this structure is 37 metres high and is a fine example of the Dravidian style of temple construction.
3.Government Museum:
The Government Museum or Madras Museum is a museum of human history and culture located in the neighbourhood of Egmore in Chennai, India. Started in 1851, it is the second oldest museum in India after the Indian Museum in Kolkata.
4.Valluvar Kottam:
Valluvar Kottam was built in the year 1976 to honour the great classical Tamil poet and saint Tiruvalluvar who wrote the famous Thirukkural. Three thousand stone blocks were used to create this memorial. All the 133 chapters of his work Thirukkural have been inscribed in the front hall corridor.
5.Edward Elliot's Beach:
Now renamed as Besant Nagar Beach, Elliot’s is one of the places to see in Chennai and less crowded than the popular Marina Beach. On the southern side this seashore are the famedAshta Lakshmi Temple and Velanganni Church, popular among the residents of Chennai.The Schmidt Memorial is yet another draw of Elliott Beach which was built in remembrance of a Dutch sailor, Karl Schmidt.
6.Semmozhi Poonga:
overing an area of 20 acres, the Semmozhi Poonga Park is a botanical garden.Overseen by the horticultural department, it is an ideal place to visit in Chennai with family. Apart from the exotic and rare flora grown, there are also some medicinal herbs in the green houses of the park.Visitors can relax on the park grounds which also contain a water and rock garden, a butterfly garden, a fern garden, a sunken garden and many theme gardens.
7.St.Thome Basilica:
San Thome Basilica is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Santhome, in the city of Chennai, India. It was built in the 16th century by Portuguese explorers, over the tomb of Saint Thomas, one of the twelve apostles of Jesus.
8.Arignar Anna Zoological Park:
Located 35 km from the city centre, this zoological park is one of the places to visit in Chennai with kids. The expansive grounds of the zoo are home to 1500 species of wild beings, some of which are even endangered.
9.Pulicat Lake:
Formed by the backwaters of the Bay of Bengal, Pulicat is the second largest lagoon in India that has brackish water. A tranquil walk in the Huddleston Gardens of the Theosophical Society of India might be needed after grappling with the city din of Chennai. The Theosophical Society is spread over 260 acres but you can certainly cover the garden, which is home to migratory birds, fruit bats, snakes, jackals, wild cats, mongooses, hares and a variety of spiders. A 450-year-old banyan tree resides in the garden with aerial roots covering 60,000 square meters.

Today's video : Exploring Tamil Nadu series - Semmozhi Poonga, a beautiful Botanical garden in Chennai. You can visit between 10 am to 7 pm. Park has parking facilities, about 100 cars and 500 two wheeler can be parked.
Outside food is prohibited. A beautiful and calm place to spend time with your family, friends and kids.
Parking fees : Rs.15 for bikes and Rs.40 for cars.
Entry fees : Rs.20 for adults and Rs.10 for children.
Cameras and video-recorders are charged seperately.
Shootings such as short films and movie shootings are allowed and charged seperately.
A must visit place in Chennai.

Guindy National Park | Chennai
Guindy National Park is a 2.70 km2 (1.04 sq mi) Protected area of Tamil Nadu, located in Chennai, South India, is the 8th smallest National Park of India and one of the very few national parks situated inside a city. The park is an extension of the grounds surrounding Raj Bhavan, formerly known as the 'Guindy Lodge', the official residence of the Governor of Tamil Nadu, India. It extends deep inside the governor's estate, enclosing beautiful forests, scrub lands, lakes and streams.

The park has a role in both ex-situ and in-situ conservation and is home to 400 blackbucks, 2,000 spotted deers, 24 jackals, a wide variety of snakes, geckos, tortoises and over 130 species of birds, 14 species of mammals, over 60 species of butterflies and spiders each, a wealth of different invertebrates—grasshoppers, ants, termites, crabs, snails, slugs, scorpions, mites, earthworms, millipedes, and the like. These are free-ranging fauna and live with the minimal of interference from human beings. The only major management activity is protection as in any other in-situ conservation area. The park attracts more than 700,000 visitors every year.
