Beautiful empty old home in the Japanese countryside - Abandoned Japan 田舎の美しい古い日本の家庭 - 日本の廃墟
This splendid old home is located roughly an hour into the mountains from Shizuoka City, Japan and is situated at the center of a small mountain community of tea and wasabi farmers. The high mountains rise sharply from the valley where limited land space requires many footpaths between the homes. This particular house has been empty for several years though it remains in very good condition. The home features traditional architecture with a tile roof and heavy wooden storm shutters protecting the lighter sliding doors and windows along the sides of the house on both levels. A large and well developed garden surround the home which is kept private by a large wall. A massive pine covering the garden entry stands testament to the age and dignity of this home which must have been a village centerpiece in its day. A smaller (and newer) building is attached to the property facing the street. This small structure may have previously served as the village post office or police station.
In the video I mentioned that the house has been empty for at least two years, however after thinking about it a bit I can recall seeing this home empty for at least the last five years. I once asked a local man about the place and he told me that the family which owns the property now lives in Shizuoka City and only periodically visit the house for maintenance.
The Jizo statue featured at the start of the video stands at the end of a bridge very close to the home. The local Shinto shrine is also only minutes from the home.

THE PATH OF WILDNESS
The Path of Wildness is easy to find
The course of a stream
Leaves blown in the wind
A beast's track through the brush
And the direction of our first inclination
The Path of Wildness is an answer and response to a prescribed way of life which may leave some individuals with a sense that their living is little more than a series of pre-determined, step-like episodes between birth and death. The stages of living between these events: childhood, adolescence, adulthood, parenthood and senior are themselves natural and in accord with the needs of the species and most individuals. Many find their satisfaction in living this course and to these individuals I have little or nothing to say. Others though long for something more; something innate, genetic and seemingly calling. Adventure and change can give a degree of satisfaction and relief yet even these may seem too tame. To those who feel drawn to something beyond the entertainment and stimulation of senses I offer a walk along The Path of Wildness. Don't bother penciling the event in your schedule, preparing a pack with goodies and supplies or even inviting a friend along, for this experience is along the course of your first inclination and you must surely always go alone.

Sendai City After Dark in Japan
Smacktalk when you absolutely know you are right...
FirstGameWorld Media:
Sendai (仙台市 Sendai-shi?) is the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, and the largest city in the Tōhoku Region. In 2005, the city had a population of one million, and was one of Japan's 19 designated cities. The city was founded in 1600 by the daimyo Date Masamune, and is well known by its nickname, the City of Trees (杜の都 Mori no Miyako?); there are about 60 zelkova trees on Jōzenji Street (定禅寺通 Jōzenji dōri?) and Aoba Street (青葉通 Aoba dōri?).
In the summer, the Sendai Tanabata Festival, the largest Tanabata festival in Japan, is held. In winter the trees are decorated with thousands of lights for the Pageant of Starlight (光のページェント), lasting through most of December.
On 11 March 2011, coastal areas of the city suffered catastrophic damage from a magnitude 9.0 offshore earthquake[1][2][3] which triggered a destructive tsunami.[4]

~Big challenges and issues of small towns: Co-existence with nature beyond time and space, nurtured by the earth and people in Iwate~
■Hiraizumi, ancient capital of Michinoku, aims to be a World Heritage site
Hiraizumi-cho, Iwate prefecture, Japan
About 800 years ago, the Oshu-Fujiwara family built its own political and administrative center in Hiraizumi, a place that was strategically important for waterway traffic, based upon Pure Land Buddhist cosmology and in adaptation to the diverse natural landforms.
Cultural heritage of Hiraizumi, centered on Chusonji Temple and Motsuji Temple, was added to Japan's tentative list of World Heritage sites in 2001. It was recommended as a World Heritage site to the UNESCO in 2006, called Hiraizumi- Cultural Landscape Associated with Pure Land Buddhist Cosmology.
However, the UNESCO's World Heritage Committee decided in July this year to postpone the registration. Mr. Takuya Tasso, governor of Iwate prefecture, encouraged people in the prefecture by quickly setting out a policy to aim for registration in 2011. Moreover, local entities concerned are boldly conducting activities that were initially planned, showing their determination to make another bid.

Japan Rail Trip #8: Sakura-jima volcanic island in Kagoshima 桜島
★下部に日本語説明あり
We woke up in Kumamoto in surprisingly good condition after the nomihoudai. It looked like the ukon had worked again :-)
We paid the price of rushing to catch the tram, and jumped on the wrong one which took us to a different location, not the train station.
This lost us about 45 mins, precious time which would cut into our day in Kagoshima.
Fortunately which managed to make it up and lose only a few minutes by catching the next Shinkansen from Kumamoto to Kagoshima.
We must have still been 1/2 asleep because we forgot to put our suitcases in the train station luggage, after back tracking to the station and putting our 100 Yen coins in the locker the machine got jammed and would not accept any more coins. June went to the station office and waited in line in a huge queue. Luckily enough one of the station guards spotted Nige looking suspicious and fixed the locker.
We caught the tram to make our way to Sakura-jima volcano island. There's a great view when you watch it from the ferry. Luckily it was very nice weather. It is only a short journey to Sakura-jima and the ferries run 24hrs a day.
Unfortunately there was not enough time so we could not go around the volcano which would have required a full day, but we walked around the port. We pencilled in to return so we would be able to give the island the time it deserved. Volcanic ashes were found on the footpath in the city to highlight how active the volcano is.
Kagoshima is famous for its black pork so we looked for a restaurant in an area famous for black pork (kurobuto). Unfortunately this area had been relocated due to the construction of the Shinkansen train line. Since we were running out of time we decided to eat at the train station.
Once at the train station the popular black pork restaurants were full with long queues, so we went on the search for one nearby.
We managed to find a black pork restaurant down one of the side streets.
Time was starting to run out before our Shinkansen left for Kumamoto and unfortunately the staff were taking an age to prepare the meal. The lunch was finally delivered 20 mins before the train departed, so the meal was devoured at a great rush.
We then started running in an attempt to catch their train. Subscribe to see if they made it in time.
桜島に行ってきました。天気が良くて眺めがとても良かったです。残念ながら時間があまりなく、港の周りを散策したのみでした。またゆっくり時間を取って戻ってきたいです。市内の歩道の上などには、黒い火山灰が積もっていました。
