About: Little Seneca Creek is an 14.0-mile-long (22.5 km) stream in Montgomery County, Maryland, roughly 18 miles (29 km) northwest of Washington, D.C. The creek drains portions of Clarksburg, Germantown, and Boyds. It rises south of Damascus and flows southward about 4.8 miles (7.7 km) to Little Seneca Lake, a reservoir created by construction of a dam on the creek. The reservoir empties to the lower portion of the creek, which flows south about 6.6 miles (10.6 km) to Seneca Creek, which drains to the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay.
The creek and reservoir are a drinking water source as part of the Little Seneca system, an emergency water supply for the metropolitan Washington, D.C. area.
Fort Frederick State Park Aerial in Maryland
This aerial video celebrates For Frederick's beautiful setting on Maryland's shore of the Potomac River. Across the river you can see the gorgeous hills of West Viriginia.
The stone fort built in 1756 protected Maryland’s frontier settlers during the French and Indian War. Fort Frederick is unique because of its strong stone wall, large size, and roomy barracks. Fort Frederick also saw service during the American Revolution as a prison for British soldiers. For the next 131 years, the fort and surrounding lands were farmed. During the Civil War, Union troops were often stationed near the fort to guard the C & O Canal.

Ft Frederick State Park located in Maryland near Big Pool. To get to Ft Frederick take the Big Pool exit off I-70 and drive about two miles south on Big Pool Road and follow the signs to the park. This park is a lovely quiet place to come to if you want to experience a little history or just peace and quiet. Just south of the Fort is the C&O Canal and a first come first serve campground area. Both the Potomac River and Big Pool area on the C&O Canal offer fishing and recreational boating. Just about a mile west of the Fort is the Western Maryland Rail Trail built over the Western Maryland Railway. Both the Rail Trail and the C&O Canal offer plenty of bike riding with nearly 200 miles of combined bike trail miles east and west of the Fort.
We visited Fort Frederick late in the day and most of the activities were over for the day. However, Fort Frederick hosts reenactments for the time periods of the French and Indian War, American Revolution and even the Civil War since this Fort was present for all three conflicts.

Maryland State Parks - Washington Monument
My Maryland State Parks project seeks to document every state park in Maryland. These shots capture the Washington Monument in Frederick county. The structure was built by the residents of Boonsboro, MD in 1827 and is considered to be the first monument dedicated to George Washington.
