This was our July hike of #SentinelPass with our 3-boys and 3 of their friends. This is an excellent hike to get someone out for their first hike. The views are stunning. Just get to the #MoraineLake parking lot early as it fills up really fast. Views of Larch Valley, Paradise Valley and the Valley of the 10 peaks will take your breath away! #thenorthface

The hamlet is named for the nearby Lake Louise, which in turn was named after the Princess Louise Caroline Alberta (1848–1939), the fourth daughter of Queen Victoria, and the wife of John Campbell, the 9th Duke of Argyll, who was the Governor General of Canada from 1878 to 1883.
Lake Louise is what makes Banff National Park the phenomenon it is, an awe-inspiring natural feature that is impossible to describe without resorting to shameless clichés. Standing next to the serene, implausibly turquoise lake, the natural world feels (and is) tantalizingly close, with a surrounding amphitheater of finely chiseled mountains that hoist Victoria Glacier up for all to see. Famous for its teahouses, grizzly bears and hiking trails, it's also well-known for its much-commented-on 'crowds,' plus a strangely congruous (or incongruous – depending on your viewpoint) lump of towering concrete known as Chateau Lake Louise. But, frankly, who cares? You don't come to Lake Louise to dodge other tourists. You come to share in one of the most spectacular sights in the Rockies, one that has captured the imaginations of mountaineers, artists and visitors for more than a century.

Sentinel Pass in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada
I did the 4-mile hike to Sentinel Pass in Banff National Park. The trail starts at Moraine Lake and makes its way through the spectacular Larch Valley. Atop Sentinel Pass, you get majestic views of the Valley of the Ten Peaks and Pinnacle Peaks. It was quite exhilarating to be atop Sentinel Pass!
Listen for my little rendition of Judas Priest's Painkiller in the middle of the video. I should have been jamming to Priest's The Sentinel whilst making the hike up here, lol.
Sentinel Pass Connector, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada - HD
Sentinel Pass Connector
Difficult: 2.3 km one way (connector only), elevation gain / loss 505 m (depending on direction), 1 to 2 hours one way.
Trailheads: Same as Paradise Valley area trails or Moraine Lake area trails.
Connect the Sentinel Pass and Paradise Valley Trails by using the Sentinel pass Connector. A vehicle shuttle is required. Route finding may be required on the rocky slopes on the north side of Sentinel Pass.
Check with the Lake Louise Information Centre for more details.
If you have a love for exploring the outdoors and walking in the wild, then the 12 km hike to and from Sentinel Pass at 732 m (2,400 ft) of elevation in Banff National Park is defiantly for you!
Sentinel Pass is located only an hour drive northwest of Banff, Alberta, Canada off of Trans Canada Highway AB-1. Cars can be parked in a large lot designated for Moraine Lake

Hiking Moraine Lake -- Valley of the Ten Peaks, Eiffel Lake, Larch Valley, and Sentinel Pass. Incredible hikes; definitely 'musts' if visiting Banff, especially Larch Valley.
We've been hiking around Lake Louise and Moraine Lake now, and we can't quite decide which is more beautiful. Moraine lake has the same blue-green water and pine tree hills, although it adds the mountain backdrop. Both hikes are incredible and insanely memorable.

Moraine Lake, Alberta Canada
Moraine Lake is a glacially-fed lake in Banff National Park, 14 km outside the Village of Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. It is situated in the Valley of the Ten Peaks, at an elevation of approximately 6,183 feet. The lake has a surface area of .5 square km.
The lake, being glacially fed, does not reach its crest until mid to late June. When it is full, it reflects a distinct shade of blue. The color is due to the refraction of light off the rock flour deposited in the lake on a continual basis.
Filmed with a Canon EOS 650D (Rebel T4i) in August.
