Traveling to Korea - Youngnam ALPS short clip 4K Video
Yeongnam Alps was named after the Alps in Europe as the seven mountains that make it up, with the over-a-thousand-meter-high Gajisan Mountain, bordering Ulsan, Milyang, Yangsan, Cheongdo, and Gyeongju, are comparable to the Euuopean Alps in grandeur.
Gaji Mountain, the highest peak of Yeongnam Alps, displays its majesty and grandeur throughout the four seasons, but most especially in autumn. It borders Ulju-gun in Ulsan, Sannae-myeon and Danjang-myeon in Milyang, Habuk-myeon and Wondong-myeon in Yangsan, Unmun-myeon in Cheongdo, and Sannae-myeon in Gyeongju.
Yeongnam Alps is regarded as including seven mountains: Gajisan Mountain (1,241m), MountainGanwalsan (1,069m), Sinbulsan Mountain (1,159m), Youngchucksan Mountain (1,081m), Cheonhwangsan Mountain (1,189m), Jaeyaksan Mountain (1,108m), and Goheonsan Mountain (1,034m). Wunmunsan Mountain (1,188m) and Munboksan Mountain (1,015m), however, are sometimes counted as part of the mountain range. Among the mountains making up Yeongnam Alps, Sinbulsan Mountain, Gajisan Mountain, Jaeyaksan Mountain (including Cheonhwangsan Mountain), and Wunmunsan Mountain have been designated by Korea Forestry Service as among the 100 celebrated mountains in South Korea.
The total area of Yeongnam Alps is about 255㎢, and as gold pampas grass (Eoksae) plains can be found all over the mountain range in autumn, with a fantastic colony of white pampas grasses, it is targeted by mountain climbers from all over the country. Thus, it has been cited as the most beautiful spot south of Han River. The about-600,000-pyeong Sinbul Plain between Sinbulsan Mountain and Chuiseosan Mountain (Youngchucksan Mountain), the about-100,000-pyeong Ganwoljae Hill between Sinbulsan Mountain and Ganwalsan Mountain, and an about-200,000-pyeong colony of pampas grass (Eoksae) can be found at the peak of Goheonsan Mountain. In particular, Sajapyeing Plain, situated east of Jaeyaksan Mountain and Cheonhwangsan Mountain, is about 1,250,000 pyeong.
Yeongnam Alps was designated as Gajisan Mountain Provincial Park in November 1979, in accordance with Article 3 of the Natural Park Act. The park is divided into the Tongdosa Temple section (28.31 ㎢) and the Naewonsa Temple section (44.69㎢) in Habuk_myeon, Yangsan-si, and the Seoknamsa Temple section in Sangbuk-myeon, Ulju-gun (30.07㎢). These areas, with splendid views and long histories, were combined as one park designated for recreation and for the improvement of the people's aesthetic sense.
Yeongnam Alps abounds in cultural heritages, including Unmunsan Mountain, Seoknamsa Temple, and Pyochungsa Temple, and boasts superb views and picturesque sceneries as well as various myths.
It is believed that the fantastic rocks and cliffs therein are the results of past volcanic activities. About 760 types of plants and over a hundred types of birds out of the 450 types inhabiting South Korea can be found in Yeongnam Alps, particularly in Gajisan Mountain. Thus, it is regarded as a giant natural zoo or botanical garden. As the mountain shuts out the wind from the northwest in winter, and as the warm sea wind from East Sea controls the temperature of the Ulsan region, the region has a mild temperature throughout the year.
This explains why Ulsan has become a famous soccer training site in winter, and helps firmly establish Ulsan as an industrial capital within the region
