How to enjoy Seoul during Chuseok
예년보다 짧은 추석 연휴, 가까운 서울에서 즐긴다
For those in Seoul not sure how to spend the Chuseok holiday starting tomorrow, the city offers a huge range of cultural sights and experiences.
Our Kan Hyeong-woo looks at where to go and how to get there.
With Chuseok being one of Korea's main holidays,... it's a great opportunity to learn about Seoul's cultural heritage.
The Cultural Heritage Foundation is opening up the capital city's four royal palaces for free.
These palaces are from the Joseon Dynasty, which lasted for about 5-hundred years starting in the late 13-hundreds.
Gyeongbokgung Palace will hold a concert of traditional music and give visitors an opportunity to try some of the desserts that were enjoyed by the Joseon royal family.
At Changdeokgung Palace, visitors can also watch a traditional Bongsan mask dance and see some tightrope walking
If you're more of a night owl,... you might want to check out the full moon through the night walking program at both Changgyeonggung and Deoksugung palaces.
The Jongmyo Shrine and the royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty -- the memorials to the kings and queens of the past -- are also open free of charge.
Now if you're visiting Seoul for the first time and you're not really sure how to get around the city,... there's the Seoul City Tour Tiger Bus,
There are four courses tourists can use to visit famous attrations like the Royal Palaces, Namsan Mountain, the Hangang River and areas like Gangnam, Hongdae and Itaewon.
Reservations are available on the tour bus website in Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese.
Some of the courses are giving discounts for Chuseok, with a ticket costing about 13 U.S. dollars.
Once you book your course, you can get on and off that bus as many times as you want in a day.
But since the bus for each course stops at different places and at different intervals, it's a good idea to check that information when planning your trip.

What to do in Seoul during Chuseok holidays
예년보다 짧은 추석 연휴, 가까운 서울에서 즐기자
Today we're going to talk about what you can do in Seoul during the Chuseok holidays, which in fact, starts tomorrow.
We have our Kan Hyeong-woo with us in the studio to tell us more.
OK, Hyeong-woo, what do you have for us?
So since Chuseok is one of the main traditional holidays in Korea, I have some cultural heritage sights you can visit.
Korea's Cultural Heritage Administration is opening up Seoul's four royal palaces for free.
These palaces are from the Joseon Dynasty, which lasted for about 5-hundred years from the late 13-hundreds.
At each palace, there will be different cultural events prepared to entertain visitors.
Gyeongbokgung Palace will hold a traditional Korean music concert... and give visitors a hands-on opportunity to get a taste of the desserts that were enjoyed by the Joseon royal family.
Visitors will also be able to check out a traditional Bongsan mask dance and wirewalking at Changdeokgung Palace.
If you are more of a night owl,... you can check out the full moon in the evening at both Changgyeonggung and Deoksugung palaces.
The Jongmyo Shrine, where the memorial tablets of deceased kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty are enshrined and sacrificial rituals are performed for them, will also allow visitors to enter for free.
The royal tombs of the Joseon Dynasty will be open for free as well.
Sounds like this Chuseok is definitely the time to learn about the Joseon Dynasty's heritage.
But if you are visiting Seoul for the first time and are not really sure how to get around the city,... what would you recommend?
Well, Seoul has a world-class public transport system with subway lines and buses reaching almost every corner of the city.
But this might not be easy for first-timers to use to get around.
So I want to introduce the Seoul City Tour Tiger Bus.
As the name suggests, it's a double-decker tour bus that takes you around the capital city.
There are four courses,... and tourists can use the buses to visit the Royal Palaces, Namsan Mountain, Hangang River and the Gangnam, Hongdae and Itaewon areas of the city.
Once you book your course, you can take the buses on that course as many times as you want.
So if you got off at the Seoul station, check out the place for as long as you want and just hop on the next bus at the same stop to get to the next spot.
But since each course has different bus stops and interval periods, it's best to check them out first when you are planning your day.
You can make reservations on the Seoul City Tour Tiger Bus website which is provided in Korean, English, Chinese and Japanese.
And one more thing, most national museums in Korea including the folk museum, the Hangeul museum and the modern art museum will be open for free over the weekend. So you could check them out too.
Well Hyeong-woo, I guess that will do it for now. Thank you for coming in today.
Always a pleasure.
Now, let's take a quick look at some other events that are taking place across South Korea.

Seoul City Tour: A Guide to Things to Do In Seoul
Watch our video highlighting some of the best things to do in Seoul, but beware—it just might cause you to start planning your next Korean vacation!
Join us in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. This intriguing destination boasts an innovative, forward-thinking culture, but it’s also steeped in history. While traveling around this northwestern city, you’ll come across massive shopping complexes just on the outskirts of ancient temples and palaces.
Take a trip back in time at the Changdeokgung Palace, which was built in 1405 as one of the Five Grand Palaces established by the Joseon Dynasty. Though all the city’s palaces were burned down during the 1592 Japanese invasion, Changdeokgung was the first to be reconstructed. Venture around Injeongjeon, the throne hall, and step across the Geumcheongyo Bridge, which is considered one of the city’s oldest bridges. Deoksugung is another one of the Five Grand Palaces, and it’s unique in that it incorporates a Western-style garden. Don’t miss the other royal grounds, including Changgyeonggung Palace, Gyeongbokgung Palace, and Unhyeongung Palace.
If you’re really looking to get a sense of the more modern, Seoul tourism scene, prepare to shop ’til you drop! This city takes shopping seriously, as you can find stores and markets scattered all around town. COEX Mall is Korea’s largest underground shopping mall, while Namdaemun Market features hundreds of vendors selling almost anything you can imagine, from kimchi to kitchenware. In the mood for some late-night shopping? Discover some of the best finds in fashion at Dongdaemun Market, which is open all through the night, closing around 7 a.m.
Continue your Seoul city tour by making your way to the theaters to witness some marvelous performances. These theaters know how to put on a show–Korean martial artists, dazzling dancers, and talented musicians take the stage at the Korea House, Jeongdong Theater, and Seoul Arts Center. Next, visit the Gyeongbokgung Palace to catch the opening and closing of the royal palace gates and the royal guard changing, or check out the Bosingak daily bell-ringing ceremony.
Whether you decide to join guided Seoul tours or prefer to venture around the Korean destination on your own terms, you won’t be disappointed. From royal grounds to theater productions, the entertainment is endless. Press play on our travel guide video to get inspiration for your next trip to South Korea.

Seoul Grand Park Zoo Vlog (서울대공원)
Hi guys! In this video, we visit the Zoo at Seoul Grand Park (서울대공원). Seoul Grand Park is a large park in Seoul. Here, you can find the Seoul Grand Park Zoo, Children's Zoo, a rose garden, Seoulland amusement park, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemorary Art, Gwancheon. I typically don't like visiting Zoos, but the Seoul Grand Park Zoo is quite well done. There is ample space for the animals to roam around, and it doesn't seem like they are miserable, like they are at some zoos. The park is very large though, and you can take a ski lift to the back of the Zoo and walk towards the front. It was a little scary, but I would recommend this because the Zoo goes up a hill, so you are essentially walking downhill most of the time, which can make a difference when you're pushing a stroller or toting kids.
