The Serapeum is a truly fascinating site. Located at Saqqara, Egypt, it’s a short drive from Cairo and the Pyramids at Giza.
We visited the site (again) in mid-2016, and filmed our visit with guide Yousef Aywan. Please check out our full article and images to go with this video on our site
The Serapeum is a unique underground complex of passages with recessed depressed alcoves, most of which house giant, precision-carved boxes made from Syenite (with porphyritic diorite) and Rose (or Red) granite. These single-piece boxes weigh anywhere from 50 to some at over 100 metric tons. Their lids are similarly massive.
These boxes and the cavern system contain stunningly clear signs of ancient high technology in their construction. The site itself shows evidence of renovation work and re-use during the dynastic egyptian period, even though this contradicts the othodox story that the site was created in this period. How does one construct a site from scratch and renovate it at the same time?
The story of the site and the objects, as determined by the 'hieroglyphic graffiti' on the boxes, interpreted by academic egyptology, ignores this clear evidence. It's like explaining how your family refrigerator works based solely on your kid's kindergarden painting stuck to the front of it with a magnet.
If you open your mind to the possibility of global cataclysm and the corresponding possibility that human-kinds' story on this planet is likely much longer than the orthodox suggests, then the Serapeum transforms from a nonsensical, ceremonial bull funeral hall and becomes a truly fascinating piece of the puzzle that is our distant, functional, megalithic past.

The Serapeum of Saqqara is a burial place of the sacred Apis bulls located in Saqqara. It consists in a huge underground complex at the Nort west of the Step Pyramid of zoser where the bulls were buried in huge granite sarcophagi between the 18th Dynasty and Ptolemaic times.
Here you can see the underground labyrinth and its many chambers with heavy sarcophagi for the bull mummies.

The Serapium is an immense series of bedrock-carved caverns located in Saqqara, Egypt. The tunnel system houses a mind-boggling series of immense stone boxes, weighing up to and beyond 100 tons each, located in alcoves off to the sides of the tunnel system.
The boxes display an astonishing degree of precision in their creation. We need high precision tools in order to even measure how perfect they are. The interior surfaces are precisely flat, and the interior angles are exact - opposite walls in the cavity are exactly parallel to each other, and perpendicular to the lid such that an air-tight seal is created when the box is closed. Doing this in one box of this size (single piece) is mind-boggling, but repeating the effort exactly in 20 boxes of similar size is an achievement of incomprehensible heights.
What is their purpose? This degree of precision does not exist or cannot even be comprehended unless the result was some functional purpose. If these were indeed ceremonial or representative 'sarcophagi' then there is no need to achieve this level of precision, close enough would have been good enough.

The Serapeum of Saqqara is located north west of the Pyramid of Djoser at Saqqara, a necropolis near Memphis. It was the burial place of the Apis bulls, living manifestations of the god Ptah. It was believed that the bulls became immortal after death as Osiris Apis, shortened to Serapis in the Hellenic period. Pompey's Pillar was originally part of a temple dedicated to Serapis located in the same area, a temple of the God Serapis, now badly damaged. It was built during the reigns of Ptolemy II and Ptolemy III, but was damaged due to the revolts of the Jewish population in Alexandria.

Ancient Egyptian coffin returned to Cairo
Museum officials in Cairo have welcomed the return of the golden coffin of a priest in ancient Egypt - which had been stolen and smuggled out of the country. The gilded sarcophagus had been discovered in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The Met has apologised - saying it was given fake documentation for the piece. The BBC's Tim Allman reports.

The pyramids and tombs of Saqqara served as the cemetery for the ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. Recent excavations south of the pyramid of King Unas have revealed a significant embalming workshop containing a unique set of measuring cups and bowls. These are inscribed with the names of oils and substances used in mummification. Ramadan Hussein will talk about this discovery and its significance to understanding ancient Egyptian funerary rituals.
