Sihanoukville Serendipity Beach
Party Beach of Sihanoukville

Serendipity Beach, Sihanoukville, Cambodia.
The Serendipity Beach area is very popular with foreign budget tourists looking for a seaside vacation in Cambodia. December-January, when I made this film, is the peak of the tourist season. For the past few years the town has become popular with Russian visitors of all ages, presumably escaping a reasonably cheap and close relief from the frigid winter of their homeland.
Correction: The date at the end of the film should be December 2014, not December 2015.
The Sour Side to Sihanoukville, Cambodia
This Episode:
Episode 59: We see the ugly side to Sihanoukville - SO much garbage! We explore Otres Beach, Serendipity Walking Street and Ochheuteal Beach. Otres Beach is definitely the better of the two. I would skip Occheuteal all together if I were you! Then, unfortunately, we have to leave the camera behind as we check out the casinos.
Thanks so much for watching guys! :)

Serendipity Street Sihanoukville Cambodia
It rained none stop today very hard to film. Ended up at the Big Easy Bar restaurant fantastic night out food cheap beer cheap a must visits in Serendipity Street Sihanoukville
Night Life Daylight ends around 6pm here, and the vacation continues. Many beach restaurants stay open until the last customer leaves. Restaurants with French, Japanese, Italian, Indian and many other cuisines come to life. Some bars and the 12 casinos are open 24 hours a day.
Sure, Sihanoukville would never win first prize in a pretty-town competition but thanks to a surrounding coastline of white-sand beaches this is Cambodia's most happening sun-soaked destination. Today it is a bustling and ever expanding city

Sihanoukville - Serendipity Beach
Sihanoukville Serendipity Beach, Cambodia | Paradise Destoryed in Kampong Saom
As I set foot on Serendipity Beach my mind cast back to my first backpacking trip in 2008 when I first marvelled at the beaches located in Sihanoukville, Cambodia. This popular beach town was once described by the Lonely Planet as follows: Surrounded by white-sand beaches and as-yet undeveloped tropical islands, Sihanoukville (Kompong Som) is Cambodia's premier seaside resort. However, as the warmth of the white sand penetrated my toes I was on guard trying not to step on what seemed like an infinite trail of garbage. In just over several years time this once 'nice alternative' to the crowded Thai beach scene has turned from a small slice of paradise into a complete and utter dump.

I've come to realize over the years that it can be dangerous to romanticize a place in your mind to the point you expect things to be the same when you return again in the future. I've seen destinations take a turn for the worse. On the other hand, I've seen positive development as well. Unfortunately, I've never quite seen anything as bad as this. This wasn't just a few pieces of garbage that littered the once pristine sands -- this was a complete dump. Audrey and I spotted discarded flip flops, used condoms, pregnancy tests, broken beer and spirit bottles, fish netting and even construction materials. My heart sank a little after every footstep.
How did it get this bad? ក្រុងព្រះសីហនុ
I feel as though all parties are to blame in this type of situation. Shame on the young backpackers who come here and irresponsibly discard their waste on the beach like immature teenagers. Equally, shame on the locals and business owners who haven't taken the measures to preserve this area for future generations.
Audrey and I are celebrating our one year anniversary. Instead of enjoying activities on the beach we're now considering alternative measures. We had planned staying for roughly a week to enjoy some down time and to get caught up on work. Now, our plan to 'sort of' salvage this situation is to check into a nice hotel with a fancy room and pool. Instead of enjoying the splendours of a natural beauty we're now resigned to creating our own artificial temporary oasis.
I'm left feeling a sense of shame as a backpacker. For all those who travel for the right reasons (to experience new cultures, sample new foods and interact with locals in a positive manner) there are far too many who come to places in far off corners of the world without any sense of moral responsibility or respect to that given area. Sihanoukville is exhibit A: ...

Sihanoukville Hotel, Holiday Villa Nataya, Serendipity Beach, Sihanoukville Cambodia
Holiday Villa Nataya is perfectly situated on Serendipity Road, about 70 meters from the pier that will take you to the Koh Rong Islands. It's also a short walk to the bars and nightlife area in Serendipity Sihanoukville which includes Sihanoukville Square. Inside, they have a nice little coffee shop in the foyer that makes good coffee, they also have a small selection of cookies and cakes.
During my time in Sihanoukville i spent 3 weeks here over 2 stays, 7 nights to the first time and 2 weeks the 2nd time. I stayed in 3 different rooms during that time, 2 of those rooms had a both and each room was of a high standard. The rooms are very modern, clean as the Holiday Villa Nataya is only 3-4 years old (2016).
I paid $29 USD per night, and that price did not include breakfast, for an extra $5 USD breakfast is included. Please keep in mind i stayed during low season so don’t expect $29 USD all year round. Hotel prices rises during the busy and high season.
Holiday Villa has over 20 hotels all over the world. based on my experience i would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone looking for clean, high standard accommodation in Sihanoukville Cambodia at a very reasonable price.
I’m told Holiday Villa is a family owned business with most, if not all of the owners children being educated in western country’s. I think this is evident through the quality of staff, hotel cleanliness, customer service and the overall Western standards one would expect.
Alot of people would agree that hotels in Cambodia can be little bit run down, a little bit dirty, a little bit neglected but overall Holiday villa Nataya was up to the DF standard by a mile.
At $29 USD per night it’s a really nice hotel and great value for money. I did look at a few $25 USD a night hotel rooms but in my opinion for the extra $4 Holiday Villa shits all over them. 1 thing i will say is on my recent travels around Asia, this was one of the best value for money hotels i stayed in.
There is a swimming pool, it doesn’t get to much sunlight during the day so probably not the best for lying poolside and getting a tan, however the beach is on a stones throw away if you want to do that. Last but not least they do have a small gym, enough to get in a full body workout and some cardio, whilst looking over the pool.

I doubt that you have ever seen such a construction boom, a construction explosion, as they are having here in this town. They're turning this place into the gambling capital of Southeast Asia with Promises of 100 casinos plus housing food restaurants and everything else that goes with it. Everyone wanting a job here has employment.

A night walk in the Serendipity Beach at Sihanoukville, South Cambodia
I walk along Serendipity Beach after sun set. Guesthouses and bar/restaurants right on the beach, which are open until the early hours. I cross many food stalls preparing fresh sea food, barbeque style. I am also surprised to see kids playing on the beach so late. According to what I have read some of them are child thieves which might clean your belongings during the day while you are in the water. For this reason many guides advice not to take ANY valuables to the beach.
